    Interoceptive alterations in post-stroke individuals: A comparative cross-sectional study

    Background and Aims: Interoception refers to the complex neuro physiological process of sensing, integrating, and modeling visceral and somatic inputs to generate real-time internal state monitoring which is crucial for homeostasis and adaptive cognitive-emotional responses. Within the framework of the allostatic interoception model, this internal sensing system not only reacts to current physiological demands but also predicts and prepares for anticipated needs. Discrepancies between pre dicted and actual interoceptive signals may cause allostatic overload, dis rupting neural signalling. So far, very few studies have investigated whether stroke impairs interoceptive networks and how these impairments are associated with cognitive and motor functions. This study, therefore, aimed to investigate interoceptive capacity in post-stoke individuals. Methods: Forty stroke patients with Mini-Mental Test scores of >25 were compared with forty healthy controls with similar age and sex dis tribution. Interoceptive dimensions were assessed through Heartbeat Detection Task for interoceptive accuracy, Interoceptive Sensory Scale for subjective sensitivity, and Toronto Alexithymia Scale for interoceptive awareness. Cognitive performance was evaluated with Trail-Making Test, while motor functioning was assessed with Fugl-Meyer Motor Scale. Results: demonstrated significantly reduced interoceptive accuracy, sen sitivity and elevated alexithymia scores in the stroke group compared to controls (p=0.018, p=0.043, p=0.038 respectively). No significant associa tion was observed between interoception and motor performance. However, interoceptive accuracy was positively correlated with cognitive function (r=0.248, p=0.037). Conclusions: Our findings indicate that stroke-related neurophysiologi cal alterations may deteriorate interoceptive function. Incorporating interoceptive assessments and targeted interventions into clinical reha bilitation may improve recovery outcomes. Further research is needed to clarify the contribution of interoceptive dysfunction to post-stroke cogni tive and emotional impairments (versus SNF) care was consistently associated with higher HT and decreased odds of mortality and readmission (Table 2). IRF (versus SNF) was associated with higher mean difference in HT percentage ranging from 21% to 23% in PS matched cohorts, IPTW analyses generated more modest estimates of mean HT difference (10.6%)

    A study of psychological violence in intimate partner relationships among university students: A mixed-methods research

    The aim of this study is to examine university students’ attitudes and experiences regarding psychological violence in intimate partner relationships in the context of attachment styles, gender roles, and parasocial interactions. In this study, a mixed-methods research design, specifically the explanatory sequential design, was employed. In the quantitative phase, the attitudes of 508 university student participants towards dating violence were examined with structural equation modeling in terms of attachment styles, parasocial interaction levels and gender roles perceptions. In the qualitative phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 university students who had experienced psychological violence in their romantic relationships, and the interviews were analyzed with the interpretive phenomenological analysis method. According to the conducted structural equation model, anxious attachment and avoidant attachment predict attitudes towards female psychological dating violence, while anxious attachment predicts attitudes towards male psychological dating violence. In the qualitative phase, the analysis revealed four main themes concerning perceptions of attachment styles: self, attitudes in relationships, evaluation tendencies in relationships, and relationship maintenance styles. Regarding perceptions of gender roles, two main themes emerged: gender equality and relationship roles. Media interactions yielded three main themes: interaction engagement, social learning effects, and the role of media within relationships. Lastly, perceptions of romantic relationship experiences were organized into four main themes: relationship encounters, relationship expectations, relationship issues, and dating violence. The findings suggest that people’s attachment styles, gender roles and interactions with different media channels are effective in their attitudes and experiences towards psychological violence in dating. The results emphasize that personal and social patterns are important in attitudes towards dating violence and that further studies on this subject should be increased

    Cone-beam CT evaluation of intracranial physiological calcifications by age and gender

    Objective: To assess the prevalence of physiological intracranial calcifications detected in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images in a group of Turkish population by age and gender. Methods: Full head CBCT images of 1000 patients (535 men, 465 women) with age range of 6-91 years were retrospectively analyzed. The presence of habenular, pineal gland, coroid plexus, petroclinoid ligament, interclinoid ligament, carotico-clinoid ligament, falx cerebri, tentorium cerebelli and basal ganglia calcifications were investigated by age groups and gender. Mann Whitney U test was used to calculate the calcification frequency by mean age and χ2 test was used for gender. Results: CBCT examination of 1000 cases aged between 6 and 91 were evaluated in six groups respectively; ages under 19 (13.3%), age 20- 29 (14.8%), age 30-39 (11.9%), age 40-49 (19.3%), age 50-59 (20.9%) ages over 60 (19.8%). Habenular calcification was the most common calcification with a rate of 69%. Only petroclinoid ligament calcification was significantly higher in men (p< .001). Statistically significant relationship was found between age groups and calcifications of habenular, pineal gland, choroid plexus, petroclinoid ligament, interclinoid ligament, caroticoclinoid ligament (p< .001). Conclusion: Habenular calcification was the most common type of intracranial calcification in all age groups. As the probability of calcification increases with aging, an increase in the association of calcifications was observed. Physiological intracranial calcifications may be an incidental finding frequently encountered in CBCT examinations

    Dinamik raf sistemli servis robotu

    Bu çalışmada, gelecekteki robotik servis sistemlerine katkı sağlaması hedeflenen bir servis modeli tasarlanmıştır. Robot, güvenlik kameralarından aldığı görüntü verilerini kullanarak masaların doluluk durumunu analiz etmekte ve siparişi aldığı masaya yönlenmektedir. Bu sürecin, yapay zekâ algoritmaları ile optimize edilerek en verimli yönlendirmeyi sağlaması hedeflenmektedir. Robotun en önemli yeniliklerinden biri, dinamik raf sistemidir. Servis öncesinde aktifleşen bu sistem, rafları masa hizasına getirerek müşterilerin ayağa kalkmadan tepsiye kolayca ulaşmasını sağlamaktadır. İlk raf boşaldığında, tavan kısmındaki boşluğa doğru yükselmekte; ardından ikinci raf, birinci rafın önceki konumuna yükselerek geçmekte ve servis edilmektedir. Diğer raflar için de aynı işlem sırasıyla gerçekleşmektedir. Servis tamamlandığında ise tüm raflar kendi başlangıç konumlarına dönmektedir. Bu mekanizma sayesinde servis sırasında oluşabilecek kazaların önlenmesi hedeflenmektedir. Ayrıca, robota entegre edilecek POS cihazı ile ödeme işlemlerinin yapılabilmesi mümkündür. Sistem tasarımı tamamlanmış; uygun profiller seçilmiş, yapısal analizler gerçekleştirilmiş ve tekerlek tork hesaplarına göre uygun servo motorlar belirlenmiştir.     Advanced low-thermal fortification strategy for dill juice: Enhanced bioaccessibility and functional properties through MLP-RSM optimization

    In this study, a combination of ultrasound and microwave technologies (USMW) was applied to increase the functional properties of Anethum graveolens L. (dill) juice and the obtained samples were comprehensively evaluated in terms of biofunctionality. Total phenolic content (TPC), β-carotene, total chlorophyll, antioxidant capacity (FRAP) and antidiabetic enzyme inhibition (α-glucosidase, α-amylase) were determined. The optimum process parameters were successfully estimated by Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) models. USMW process increased the extraction of phenolic compounds and carotenoids, providing significant increases in TPC (126.08 mg GAE/100 mL), β-carotene (42.82 mg/100 mL) and chlorophyll (4.42 g/100 mL) levels (*p < 0.05). In the simulated post-digestion bioavailability assessments, the ultrasound and microwave (DJ-USMW) group showed the highest recovery rates. In addition, potential antidiabetic effects were confirmed by the inhibition of α-glucosidase (61.65%) and α-amylase (53.11%). PCA and clustering analyses showed that USMW application significantly separated the samples. The obtained results demonstrate that USMW technology is a sustainable and effective method, especially for the development of functional beverages, as an alternative to traditional heat treatments.The author(s) declare that financial support was received for the research and/or publication of this article.     Differential expression of erythrocyte proteins in patients with alcohol use disorder

    Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) poses global health challenges, and causes hematological alterations such as macrocytosis and oxidative stress. Disruption of protein structures by alcohol and/or its metabolites may exacerbate AUDs; proteomics can elucidate the underlying biological mechanisms. This study examined the proteins differentially ex pressed in the cytosol and membrane fractions of erythrocytes obtained from 30 male patients with AUD, comparing them to samples from 15 age- and BMI-matched social drinkers (SDs) and 15 non-drinkers (control). The analysis aimed to identify the molecular differences related to alcohol consumption. The AUD patient subgrouping was based on mean corpuscular volume (MCV), with 16 individuals classified as having a normal MCV and 14 having a high MCV. Proteins were separated via two-dimensional(2D)-gel electrophoresis, digested with trypsin, and identified via Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorp tion/Ionization Time-of-Flight (TOF) mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/TOF). Additionally, levels of malondialdehyde and 4-hydroxyalkenals (MDA + HAE), reduced glutathione (GSH), oxidized glutathione (GSSG), serum carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (%CDT), disialotransferrin (%DST), and sialic acid (SA) were analyzed. The results showed increased MDA + HAE and decreased total thiols in AUD patients, with GSSG elevated and the GSH/GSSG ratio reduced in the AUD MCV-high subgroup. Serum %CDT, %DST, and SA were significantly higher in AUD. Compared to the control profiles, the AUD group exhibited differential protein expression. Few proteins, such as bisphosphoglycerate mu tase, were downregulated in AUD versus control and SD, as well as in the MCV-high AUD subgroup. Conversely, endoplasmin and gelsolin were upregulated in AUD relative to control. Cytoskeletal proteins, including spectrin-alpha chain, actin cytoplasmic 2, were overexpressed in the AUD group and MCV-high AUD subgroup. Several proteins, such as 14-3-3 isoforms, alpha-synuclein, translation initiation factors, heat shock proteins, and others, were upregulated in the MCV-high AUD subgroup. Under-expressed proteins in this subgroup include band 3 anion transport protein, bisphosphoglycerate mutase, tropomyosin alpha-3 chain, uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase, and WD repeat-containing protein 1. Our findings highlight the specific changes in protein expression associated with oxidative stress, cytoskeletal alterations, and metabolic dysregulation, specifically in AUD patients with an elevated MCV. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for developing targeted interventions and identifying biomarkers of alcohol-induced cellular damage.     Evaluation of nutritional content of menus distributed in Turkish Red Crescent Istanbul Soup Kitchens

    Amaç Türk Kızılay’ın İstanbul aşevlerinde dağıtılan menülerin makro- ve mikro besin ögelerinin miktarlarının incelenmesi ve ulusal ve uluslararası otoritelerin belirlediği günlük referans alım değerlerini karşılamadaki yeterliliklerinin saptanması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem Çalışmada, Türk Kızılay İstanbul aşevlerinden (n=6) edinilen 487 adet menüde yer alan reçetelerin makro- ve mikro besin ögesi içerikleri BeBiS (Beslenme Bilgi Sistemi) programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler Jamovi istatistik programına aktarılarak menülerdeki besin ögelerinin ortalama (x̄), standart sapma (SS), minimum ve maximum değerleri saptanmıştır. Ardından, menülerin besinsel içerikleri Türkiye Beslenme Rehberi-2022 (TÜBER-2022), Avrupa Gıda Güvenliği Otoritesi (EFSA) ve Gıda ve İlaç İdaresi'nin (FDA) diyet referans alım değerleri ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Çalışmaya dâhil edilen kurumlar tek öğün yemek sağladıkları için, menü içeriğindeki besinsel bileşenlerin yeterliliği değerlendirilirken referans değerlerin 2/5’ini karşılamaları gerektiği dikkate alınmıştır. Bulgular Menülerdeki karbonhidrat, D vitamini, riboflavin, C vitamini, potasyum ve kalsiyum seviyelerinin TÜBER-2022, EFSA ve FDA’da önerilen günlük alım değerlerini karşılamada yetersiz olduğu saptanmıştır. Sonuç Aşevleri çoğunlukla yoksulluk içinde yaşayan yetişkinler, yaşlılar, özellikle de evsizler için birincil beslenme kaynağı görevi görmektedir. Elde edilen veriler bu kurumlardan gıda yardımı alan bireylerde özellikle mikro besin ögesi yetersizlikleri görülebileceğini işaret etmektedir. Aşevi menülerinin ulusal ve uluslararası otoritelerce belirlenen günlük referans alım değerleriyle uyumlu olması Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Amaçları’ndan Açlığa Son hedefine ulaşmaya katkı sağlayacaktır.Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the macro- and micronutrient content of menus distributed in Turkish Red Crescent İstanbul soup kitchens and assess their adequacy in meeting daily reference intake values set by national and international authorities. Method In the study, the macro- and micronutrient content of the recipes in 487 menus obtained from Turkish Red Crescent Istanbul soup kitchens (n=6) were analyzed with the BeBiS (Nutrition Information System) program. The obtained data were transferred to the Jamovi statistics program, and the mean (x̄), standard deviation (SD), and minimum and maximum values of the nutrients in the menus were determined. Then, the nutritional contents of the menus were compared with the dietary reference intake values of the Turkey Nutrition Guide-2022 (TUBER-2022), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Since the institutions included in the study provide single-meal meals, it was taken into account that they should meet 2/5 of the reference values when evaluating the adequacy of the nutritional components in the menu content. Findings The analysis revealed that levels of carbohydrates, vitamin D, riboflavin, vitamin C, potassium, and calcium in the menus were insufficient to meet the intake values recommended by TÜBER 2022, EFSA, and FDA. Conclusion Soup kitchens are often the primary source of nutrition for impoverished individuals, including older adults and homeless populations. The findings indicates that micronutrient deficiencies may be a concern among these groups. Aligning soup kitchen menus with established nutritional guidelines would contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger

    The use of copper phthalocyanine pigments as blue colorants in gelatin films for aquatic food packaging

    In this study, Copper (Cu) phthalocyanine pigments, coded PD1 and PD2, were characterized, and the possibility of using them as blue colorants in gelatin-based materials for aquatic packaging was evaluated. Synthesized phthalocyanine pigments were compared with imported commercial PB15:1 (control) in terms of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) results, Cu, and ash content. It was found that the synthesized PD1 and PD2 samples were the ones closest to the commercial powder in terms of FTIR peaks, Cu amount, and HPLC results. The selected sample coded PD1 at 0.5 wt% with respect to the solution was further added to gelatin-containing solutions containing 10% and 5% glycerol, and dried films of GL10 and GL5 were obtained, respectively. Although the 10% glycerol-added film showed better color properties, L, a, b, Hue angle, and Chroma parameters were insignificant (p>0.05). Tensile tests and creep/recovery curves showed that GL10 had 107% higher elongation at break, 29% lower Young’s modulus, and higher strain values compared to GL5, making it softer and more flexible. Deformation parameters such as hardness, chewiness, and gumminess were also compared at different deformation rates for the selected GL10 sample. Results indicated that blue pigment-added gelatin films can be used in aquatic food product packages

    Finite element analysis and production of a balance robot designed to be used in the field of advertising

    This study presents the finite element analysis and prototype development of a self-balancing robot designed for applications in the advertising sector. The structural behavior and dynamic properties of the robot were analyzed using static, modal, and rigid body simulations in ANSYS software. Static analysis confirmed the mechanical durability of the robot by evaluating the forces acting on the motors and body, while modal analysis identified potential resonance conditions. Notably, in the third vibration mode, a deformation of 330.24 mm at 52.169 Hz was observed, indicating a critical resonance issue. To enhance structural efficiency, topology optimization was applied to the outer casing, resulting in a 14% reduction in mass (from 0.45392 kg to 0.39069 kg) while maintaining structural integrity. During the experimental phase, the prototype successfully demonstrated autonomous movement using integrated distance sensors. However, initial tests revealed a wobbling motion due to insufficient motor power, which will be addressed in future iterations by incorporating higher-torque motors. The proposed robot has the potential to serve as an interactive advertising tool, capable of attracting attention through dynamic motion and engaging promotional content display. Future work will focus on enhancing stability and refining control algorithms to improve performance in real-world advertising environments

    The understanding of the importance of oxidant/antioxidant status in hemophilia patients with arthropathy

    This study aimed to investigate the roles of pro-inflammatory cytokine [interleukin-1β (IL-1β)], receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL), prooxidant [reactive oxygen species (ROS), thiobarbituric acid reactive sub stances (TBARS), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), advanced glycation end-products (AGEs)], and antioxi dant markers [ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), total-thiol content (t-SH)] in the pathogenesis of arthropathy in patients with hemophilia (PwH) with/without arthropathy, and to identify potential therapeutic targets for preventing arthropathy and improving quality of life. The study included 18 PwH without arthropathy [31.0 years; (13–65)] and 39 PwH with arthropathy [10 years; (3–36)]. Among PwH with arthropathy, 6% were inhibitor positive, and 26.3% had involvement of more than two joints. Serum ROS and AGE were measured by fluorometric method, while TBARS, AOPP, FRAP, and t-SH were assessed via spectrophotometrically. IL-1β and RANKL concentrations were determined using ELISA. AGE and RANKL concentrations were significantly higher in PwH with arthropathy compared to those without (p=0.002 and p=0.010, respectively), and differences remained significant after age adjustment. FRAP and t-SH levels were initially elevated in PwH with arthropathy (p=0.030 and p=0.007, respectively), but differences lost significance after age adjustment. No significant differences were observed in ROS, TBARS, AOPP, or IL-1β levels between groups. Elevated AGE and RANKL levels in PwH with arthropathy suggest their potential involvement in joint damage and highlight the importance of maintaining oxidant/antioxidant balance. Therefore, monitoring these biomarkers may provide supportive information for early detection and inform future research on preventive strategies to reduce joint complications and preserve long-term quality of life in hemophilia
