Adoption of Smart Speakers for Voice Shopping

    No full text
International audienceThis study aims at determining the effect of perceived risk, privacy concerns, and smart speaker learning capabilities on the adoption of smart speakers for voice shopping. To this end, we used the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and the interpersonal theory of personality to propose a conceptual model that we tested using a mixed methods research design. Our results show that indeed, perceived risks, privacy concerns, and perceived learnability of smart speakers influence consumer intention to use smart speakers for voice shopping, which then influences actual use. Theoretically, this paper contributes to new theoretical perspectives regarding the learning capabilities of AI systems and their importance in AI adoption. Specifically, we use an insightful interpersonal theory and develop a scale that can be used to measure the learnability of AI systems as perceived by users. Practically, we show information systems (IS) and marketing managers key factors that need to be considered when providing voice shopping services through smart speakers

    No full text
International audienceThe growth of a firm has often been described theoretically as a biological process following a life cycle where decline is located inevitably after the stages of creation, expansion and then maturity. An integrative model of growth following rather dynamic states seems to better describe the reality of SMEs. The objective of this article is to understand the role played by the board of directors in supporting a SME throughout its dynamic states of growth. The results show how, for each “state,” a specific role of the board of directors predominates. They also show the existence of some triggering events supporting the company’s transition from one growth “state” to another one.

A Review of AI in the Supply Chain Industry: Preliminary Findings

    No full text
Part 7: Digitised Supply ChainsInternational audienceArtificial Intelligence (AI) has been claimed to provide transformational powers in developing efficient and sustainable supply chains. Despite this, the supply chain industry is grappling with a number of challenges related to the implementation of AI. Additionally, AI and supply chain research to date has largely focused on the technical elements or different functions of AI, rather than AI as a whole. In order to provide a consolidated view of AI in the context of supply chains, we synthesis this dispersed knowledge by conducting a systematic literature review of AI research in supply chains that have been published in 3* and 4* ranked journals between 2000 and 2020. The search strategy resulted in 468 studies, of which 56 were identified as primary papers relevant to this research. This research adds to aggregation of knowledge by providing a state-of-the-art of AI and supply chain research, synthesising the reported challenges of the supply chain industry and the claimed benefits of AI

    No full text

    Compromise pricing in luxury

    No full text
International audiencePurpose Going beyond odd and even prices, this paper aims to explore the rationale behind the widespread practice of setting prices ending in “50” or “80” in the luxury industry. The authors argue that when they set such prices, managers agree to reduce their profit margin to limit the anticipated guilt luxury consumers associate with luxury shopping while also protecting their brand luxury. The authors label these prices compromise prices and formally define compromise pricing as the practice of choosing a price’s ending so that the price falls below (but not just below) a round number to boost sales without damaging brand luxury. Design/methodology/approach Following the observation of the overrepresentation of prices ending in “50” and “80” in the luxury clothing category, an experiment explores the impact of compromise prices on anticipated guilt and brand luxury in the luxury watch category. Then, to identify when luxury pricing managers typically favor compromise prices, multinomial regressions investigate prices collected on two online luxury fashion retailers for the luxury clothing and handbag categories. Findings Compromise prices reduce the anticipated guilt luxury consumers associate with luxury shopping compared with even prices while enhancing brand luxury compared with odd prices and interestingly, with even prices also. This finding gives rationale to luxury managers’ preference for compromise prices in the ninth hundred (i.e. €X950, €X980), especially for higher-priced products, i.e. when the potential for price underestimation and/or the risk of damaging brand luxury are more important. Originality/value This research contributes to the field of luxury pricing by providing evidence to an original price-ending practice, coined compromise pricing, which consists in agreeing to a slight reduction in prices and unit margin to protect brand luxury

A Heuristic-Based Genetic Algorithm for Scheduling of Multiple Projects Subjected to Resource Constraints and Environmental Responsibility Commitments

    No full text
International audienceDuring the last decades, resource-constrained project scheduling problems have been abundantly presented in extant literature. However, there are still some real-world challenges that have not been adequately considered. These challenges include environmental commitments and constraints related to the procurement of resources (as regards procurement commitment). This calls for the integration of the project planning and forward-reverse supply chain planning systems. To achieve this goal, this paper contributes to the existing literature by presenting a model that incorporates the two issues in the integrated planning system: (1) the procurement commitment objective is met through the just-in-time delivery of non-renewable resources to the project sites while considering the limited supply capacity of suppliers, and (2) the environmental commitment is satisfied by collecting and recycling the waste generated at project sites. A mixed-integer linear formulation of the problem is proposed. Since the model is NP-hard (non-deterministic polynomial time-hard), the paper develops a new heuristic-based genetic algorithm to solve the problem instances. The main parameters of the algorithm are tuned using the Taguchi method. The results show the efficiency of the algorithm in obtaining appropriate solutions in reasonable computational times. The integrated planning model that is proposed in this paper and its novel resolution method would help managers to make more responsive and efficient decisions

    No full text
International audienceCompanies are constantly developing into networks. This trend is particularly prevalent in innovation and R&D-based sectors. In these science-based sectors, companies have profoundly modified their organizational structures by building and/or inserting themselves into complex networks. In this article, we will try to understand and analyze the structuring of the alliance networks within the biopharmaceutical industry of one of the most dynamic regions in this field, the Ile-de-France region. It will also involve mapping the nature of these alliances, through the study of regional collaborative projects, and studying the interactions between the different players within its networks. We will establish a strong correlation between the performance of a network, on the one hand, and the structuring and interaction of its actors, on the other. To do this, we carried out an empirical study which allowed us to identify the role of major players through collaborative regional R&D projects in Ile-de-France. This approach makes it possible to identify the positions of the players within the network and to analyze the interactions at stake between these different players. We observe this evolution over a period of eleven years, from 2005 to 2016.The results of this empirical study made it possible to establish the architecture of the Ile-de-France network over a period of 11 years while analyzing the correlation between the centrality of the main players (big pharma and public organizations) and their capacity for innovation within the network itself.

Promoting Engaged Scholarship for Sustainability Regionally: the Case of the PRME France-Benelux Chapter

    No full text
International audienceOver the last twenty-five years, the concept of Engaged Scholarship has gained momentum in the academic world striving to value knowledge developed through academia while actively engaging and dialoguing with society. Yet, how business schools and faculties, and universities at large, can move beyond institutional boundaries to engage deeply with society on complex urgent problems, such as sustainability, remains less explored. To address this issue this study focuses on the role of boundary-spanning intermediary organizations for responsible education, namely the PRME France-Benelux Chapter. Relying on evidence from multiple internal Chapter documents and PRME global sources of information and exemplifying the three levels of engaged scholarship drawing on concrete engaged educational, research and service actions of the PRME France-Benelux Chapter, our research shows evidence of how the Chapter convenes and facilitates collaboration for sustainability at a regional level. We conclude that PRME Chapters, as well as other regional and national networks, have the potential to further foster substantial responsible management education among their signatory schools through creating space for conversations, knowledge and practice sharing, and capacity building on the urgent topic of sustainability and CSR.Au cours des vingt-cinq dernières années, le concept « engaged scholarship » a pris de l’ampleur dans le monde universitaire, s’efforçant de valoriser les connaissances développées par le milieu universitaire tout en s’engageant activement et en dialoguant avec la société.

A Country-of-Origin Perspective on Climate Change Actions: Evidence from France, Morocco, and the United States

    No full text
International audienceCountry-of-origin (COO) research cites the influence of country-level actions on consumers’ attitudes but does not specify how such actions might influence the COO image, particularly in a climate change context. However, various countries adopt different climate change actions, with notable potential implications for products associated with the nations’ images; therefore, it is vital to understand the relationship between climate change actions and consumers’ attitudes toward their country. This study, which solicits responses from 1,389 consumers in France, Morocco, and the United States, investigates whether and how climate change actions influence each COO image and consumers’ attitudes toward it, which vary with consumers’ level of climate change concern. Such climate change actions also exert distinct effects that are moderated by the cultural context. Therefore, this study extends the COO literature to a climate change context and provides relevant implications for policy makers and marketing managers aiming to improve their COO image
