Family Business, Strategic Planning and Corporate Entrepreneurship
International audienceThe aim of this paper is to examine whether willingness to change, generational involvement, perceived technological opportunities, and competitive aggressiveness, in addition to strategic planning, affect the corporate entrepreneurship of family firms in Lebanon. Using a sample of 85 Lebanese family firms, our results suggest that family-business-related characteristics and strategic planning have a positive relationship with corporate entrepreneurship. Our study provides important insights to regulators and practitioners interested in enhancing governance practices in family firms in Lebanon based on the impact of family-business-related characteristics and strategic planning on corporate entrepreneurship. More importantly, our paper helps understand how corporate entrepreneurship in a Middle Eastern country can be affected by willingness to change, generational involvement, perceived technological opportunities, and competitive aggressiveness

An Integrated Workflow for Enhanced Taxonomic and Functional Coverage of the Mouse Faecal Metaproteome
The intestinal microbiota plays a key role in shaping host homeostasis by regulating metabolism, immune responses and behaviour. Its dysregulation has been associated with metabolic, immune and neuropsychiatric disorders and is accompanied by changes in bacterial metabolic regulation. Although proteomics is well suited for analysis of individual microbes, metaproteomics of faecal samples is challenging due to the physical structure of the sample, presence of contaminating host proteins and coexistence of hundreds of species. Furthermore, there is a lack of consensus regarding preparation of faecal samples, as well as downstream bioinformatic analyses following metaproteomic data acquisition. Here we assess sample preparation and data analysis strategies applied to mouse faeces in a typical LC-MS/MS metaproteomic experiment. We show that low speed centrifugation (LSC) of faecal samples leads to high protein identification rates and a balanced taxonomic representation. During database search, protein sequence databases derived from matched mouse faecal metagenomes provided up to four times more MS/MS identifications compared to other database construction strategies, while a two-step database search strategy led to accumulation of false positive protein identifications. Comparison of matching metaproteome and metagenome data revealed a positive correlation between protein and gene abundances, as well as significant overlap and correlation in taxonomic representation. Notably, nearly all functional categories of detected protein groups were differentially abundant in the metaproteome compared to what would be expected from the metagenome, highlighting the need to perform metaproteomics when studying complex microbiome samples
Design Space Exploration for Aerospace IoT Products
Part 9: Internet of ThingsInternational audience‘When aviation takes off again, we (industry stakeholders) must ensure it is on a more sustainable flight path, COVID-19 gives us a chance to design an aviation industry fit for the future’– World Economic Forum [14]. IoT in Aerospace & Defense produces more smart and connected products which offers better operation & control, material & energy management, traffic planning, staff & passenger information management, data analytics, and others. The longer life cycle in the A&D sector presents fewer opportunities to introduce capability advancements to stay ahead of the competition. Strong product strategy decisions can make the difference between success and failure in winning business during the available window of opportunity. Developing Product strategy and identifying suitable product in quicker time is more relevant in the current pandemic scenario with reduced spending for research and development initiatives. The investigative research is targeted towards developing a design space exploration methodology to develop IoT products in A&D. This methodology helps in identify the gaps in the existing methods and improvement opportunities to develop the IoT products, quick launch in the market to stay ahead of competition and to stay in the market. This methodology could help A&D players to develop optimized product development strategy by identifying the IoT Values which yields customer benefits with qualitative early decisions in IoT product development cycle
WHAT DOES IT DO? THEORIZING FUNCTIONAL AMBIGUITY AS A FACTOR INFLUENCING USER PERCEPTIONS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
International audienceThe digital era is characterized by the widespread diffusion of information technologies (IT) offering great degrees of malleability in how their features may be interpreted and used. While there are immediate advantages to leveraging the malleability of IT, this could also prove a source of confusion for lay users who are faced with multiple interpretations of what IT can do. Despite growing evidence of this phenomenon, current research lacks the concepts and tools to adequately capture its impact on IT acceptance, adoption, and use. In this paper, we first deploy the "perceived functional ambiguity" (PFA) construct, describing its dimensionality and relationships with measures. Then, we develop and validate the corresponding multidimensional measurement instrument. Finally, we test the effect of the construct across three studies assessing how users perceive social media (N=419), smartphones (N=411) and smart speakers (N=346). Our results suggest that ambiguity has a double-edged sword effect on users' perception of IT: greater levels of ambiguity are associated with greater utilitarian and hedonic value, but they also entail substantial learning costs. This research contributes to advancing our theoretical understanding of IT use by introducing ambiguity as a factor underpinning contemporary IT use
A use case of blockchain in Healthcare: allergy card
International audienceBlockchain has often been mentioned in recent years as being a promising innovation for the healthcare sector in that it can ensure the secure exchange and traceability of information while respecting the regulatory framework for the confidentiality and portability of healthcare data. However, concrete cases remain very rare in the literature, and we investigate relevant use cases applying blockchain in healthcare. This chapter shows how we design a blockchain-based allergy card to solve real-life issues that is register, share and trace information about drug allergies. Therefore, we iteratively use action design research to determine the needs, design solution, develop the application and evaluate outcomes by involving stakeholders in the construction and evaluation.
Gendered products act as the extended phenotype of human sexual dimorphism: They increase physical attractiveness and desirability
International audienceGendered marketing is a pervasive trend, despite the public controversies it generates. Most of research so far has focused on the socialization-based perspectives of gendered marketing to explain this phenomenon. In this research, we ask the following instrumental question: which benefits can men and women derive from owning gender-typical variants of consumer goods? We propose that gender-typical products can act as the extended phenotype of human sexual dimorphism, broadcasting a cultural equivalent to the signals issued by biological, secondary sexual characteristics. Based on evidence showing that secondary sexual characteristics increase at-tractiveness and desirability, we predict that gender-typical products increase the attractiveness and desirability of their owners by acting as supernormal stimuli of sexual dimorphism. An internal meta-analysis across three studies confirms that consumers who own gender-typical products are mentally pictured as more physically attractive. We also find that owners of gender-typical products can be perceived as sexier, and more desirable partners
Mobile Wallet Continuance Adoption Intention: An Empirical Study in Cameroon
Part 2: Adoption of Mobile and Platform-Based ApplicationsInternational audienceThe mobile payment literature has grown significantly in recent years. It has the power to improve transaction agility, as it also provides financial inclusion of the people, especially in emerging economies. One of the primary modality is the mobile wallet (m-wallet). The literature concerning m-wallet is in its initial stage; most of the studies are concerning the adoption stage. In this study, we investigated the behavior intention of the users in continuance intention in Cameroon. We proposed a model in which satisfaction and perceived trust are antecedents of the continuance intention. We used the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze the proposed model. The results showed that the satisfaction exerts a strong influence on continuance intention, and perceived trust performs a mediation effect in the relationship between satisfaction and continuance intention
