Landscape perceptions and social representations of Fallopia spp. in France
International audienceChoices have to be made to manage invasive species because eradication often is not possible. Both ecological and social factorshave to be considered to improve the efficiency of management plans. We conducted a social study on Fallopia spp., a majorinvasive plant taxon in Europe, including (1) a survey on the perception of a landscape containing Fallopia spp. using aphotoquestionnaire and (2) an analysis of the social representations of Fallopia spp. of managers and users in one highly invadedarea and one less invaded area. The respondents to the photoquestionnaire survey appreciated the esthetics of the landscapes lesswhen tall Fallopia spp. were present. Few people were able to identify and name the plant, and this knowledge negativelyaffected the appreciation of the photos containing Fallopia spp. The central core of the social representation of Fallopia spp. wascomposed of the invasive status of the plant, its density, and its ecological impacts. The peripheral elements of the representationdepended on the people surveyed. The users highlighted the natural aspect whereas the managers identified the need for control. In the invaded area, the managers qualified the species as Bunmanageable,^ whereas the species was qualified as Bforeign^ in theless invaded area. Those results provide insights that have to be included when objectives of management plans of these speciesare selected
International audienceThe purpose of this article is to understand how collective gardens are taken into account in French urban planning. To do this, it proposes a review of the law relating to collective gardens. In this regard, it notes its lack of efficiency. Focused on allotment gardens, the law is incapable of translating realities in constant evolution. Based on the study of the urban planning documents in 7 cities ((Lille, Grand Lyon, Marseille, Grand Nancy, Nantes, Paris-Ile-de-France, Grand Toulouse), this article demonstrates that Local town planning plans (Plans Locaux d’Urbanisme, PLU) are certainly more and more integrative but also very variable from one territorial context to another. Nevertheless, the commune remains, the scale of apprehension most relevant as for collective gardens. Based on a detailed analysis of the public policies dedicated to collective gardens in three representative cities (Marseille, Grand Nancy, Nantes), this article shows that the ad hoc devices created by the municipalities bring inequalities of regard and treatment according to the agglomerations and according to the forms of collective gardens.
International audienceThe purpose of the Green and Blue Network strategy (in French, Trame verte et bleue) is to build an ecological network to foster biodiversity. At the regional level it translates into regional plans for ecological consistency (in French, Schéma Régionaux de Cohérence Ecologique). This article is about the design and the implementation of the Green and Blue Network strategy in farming areas in the Rhônes-Alpes region. We show how this strategy has been subjected to different trials before being successfully deployed for mobilising farmers. This has led to changes in landscape design approaches. The ecological landscape, associating reservoirs of biodiversity and green and blue corridors, has gradually become a development landscape involving different modes of occupation. The challenge at the regional level is to limit urbanisation and the intensification of agriculture. Finally, with the deployment of the ecological consistency plan the landscape becomes a development landscape experienced by the inhabitants in their daily lives as a support for and product of economic and agricultural activities.

Ce numéro comprend les articles correspondant aux présentations du Colloque Casdar 2018.National audienceIn field crops, by the destruction of seeds and young seedlings, slug attacks are recognized as very harmful. This damage is often amplified in climatic conditions favorable to slugs and in the implementation of cultivation practices reducing the intensity of tillage. A large network of observations of more than 80 farmer plots and crop plant trials provided many data that were compared with information from other studies and literature. Slugs sampled from this network were studied in the laboratory in order to specify their thermotolerance and their biochemical composition during their growth. Data analysis provided details concerning the harmfulness of slugs, their life traits in fields cultivated during the seasons; the effects of different agricultural practices, beneficial organisms and weather conditions. This project contributed to the construction of a multicriteria assessment tool for slug risk and a conceptual model of slug population dynamics taking into account climatic factors. Nevertheless, their computer development remains to be made to make them available.
Agroecological practices for the management of drinking-water catchments in agricultural landscapes
International audienceWith the intensification of agriculture over the past decades, yields have significantly increased, but at the cost of increasing and ongoing contamination of drinking-water resources. Over the past two decades different initiatives, action programmes, and policies in many countries throughout the world have been implemented to improve water quality in drinking-water catchments. But a real improvement in drinking-water catchments in agricultural landscapes can only be achieved if a landscape approach is implemented. This means that in order to establish a combination of different farming practices in large parts of the catchment, restoration or conservation of different seminatural landscape elements, and in very crucial areas strong extensification or even, if necessary, abandonment of agriculture.Among the most promising farming practices are different agroecological practices, as many showed reduced leaching or transfer of nutrients to groundwater or surface waters and decreased pesticide use. Examples are diversified crop rotations, intercropping, cover crops, cultivar mixtures, no or reduced tillage, direct seeding, split fertilization, agroforestry, biological pest control and integration of seminatural landscape elements around fields and at the farm and landscape scale. An example is provided in how to evaluate at landscape scale the needed establishment of seminatural landscape elements with the goal to improve conservation biological control in drinking-water catchments. Finally, some examples of water protection programmes are given which are based on paying farmers for certain measures or practice
Evolution of carrot pulps during spontaneous fermentation
International audienceThe spontaneous fermentation of carrot pulps was followed under different conditions during nine consecutive days. Trials were carried out to obtain interesting compounds: organic acids and volatile molecules. Factors were tested with a two-level full factorial design: temperature (24°C/37°C), grinding (with/without), addition of water (0%/50% w/w) and refreshment of the fermentation medium (without/after 3 or 7 days of incubation). During the course of the fermentations, different parameters were measured: microbial gross composition and diversity (REP-PCR), pH, lactic and acetic acids, ethanol, phenolic and volatiles compounds (SPME-GC-MS). Whatever the culture conditions tested, the pulp ecosystem remained quantitatively stable from the beginning to the end of the culture step. It was dominated by lactic acid bacteria (LAB), followed by Enterococci, yeasts, moulds and acetic acid bacteria (AAB); Enterobacteriaceae, Bacillus and Pseudomonas were found at low levels. However, the composition of each population changed. As a consequence, the LAB proved to be the most influencing population on the production of ethanol, acetic acid and lactic acid. 2-Butanol was also detected in the fermented pulps; but no relation was found with the microorganisms looked for. Among the factors tested, the rise in temperature led to a decrease in the production of acetic acid, ethanol and D-lactic acid
Occurrence of the First Toxic Microcystis Bloom in a Recent Moroccan Reservoir
International audienceIn order to understand initial conditions that promote the first occurrence of a Microcystis aeruginosa bloom and to evaluate its toxic potential, we studied spatio-temporal dynamics of phytoplankton, including Microcystis, microcystins concentrations, the relative proportion of potentially microcystin producing cells and physicochemical parameters in the recently setup Moroccan reservoir “Yaacoub Al Mansour.” High summer temperatures, thermal stability, hydrological stability of the water column and the decrease of nutrient contributions seem to be the major environmental factors responsible of this first bloom occurrence. Despite the low cellular abundance, high microcystins concentrations, associated with low percentage of toxic strains, were measured. Thus, microcystins analysis and associated management of the reservoir are necessary from the beginning of the setup and can help managers to find the better environmental strategy against early cyanobacteria proliferations
Nous vous invitons à découvrir le bilan et les enseignements des 21 projets conduits sur la période 2012-2017.National audienceThe “RotAB network” consists of 12 long term systemic experiments, having in common the objective ofstudying the sustainability of innovative arable cropping systems in organic farming (OF). All rely on the strong mobilization of agroecological levers, to maintain or develop soil fertility and to control weeds, without using phytosanitary products. Networking makes it possible to deal collectively with thequestions each one has to deal with. They concern (i) the design of agroecological systems in arablecropping systems in OF, (ii) the design of the devices and means necessary to evaluate them as awhole and in the long term, (iii) the data capitalization and their valuation. The activities carried out arebased on a sharing process between network members and improvement of approaches to specificissues, mobilizing collective intelligence. After 6 years, the network draws a positive assessment of thework carried out jointly. It mainly concerns methodological contributions. The prospects are today towork on improving the capitalization of results and communication to farmers for reducing inputs, especially herbicides. The launch of a European network of long-term experiments in AB is anothermain issue for next yearsLe Réseau RotAB regroupe 12 dispositifs expérimentaux systémiques de longue durée, ayant encommun l’objectif d’étudier la durabilité de systèmes de grande culture innovants en AgricultureBiologique (AB).
