The role of information attainment on Front-of-Package labels and individual empowerment impacting boycott behavior
International audienceIn response to consumer’s growing attention to the products they consume, front-of-package (FOP) labels have been developed to help them make healthier choices. This research aims to analyse the impact of information attainment on both FOP efficacy and individual empowerment and to measure the influence of FOP and individual empowerment on boycott behaviour. A quantitative approach was selected and a total sample of 353 respondents was collected and analysed using a partial least squares approach. The results show that information attainment affects two variables related to efficacy, namely consumer understanding and helpfulness, and three components of individual empowerment, namely consumer competence, self-determination, and consumer feelings of impact. Furthermore, our study reveals that boycott behaviour is determined by helpfulness and feelings of impact. This research provides better understanding of how consumers perceive FOP labels, how consumers are empowered, and how this influences behaviour
New trends in line balancing and model sequencing in assembly, disassembly and machining environments
International audienceThe Assembly Line Balancing Problem (ALBP), first formally introduced by Salveson in 1955, has long been a foundational topic in operations research and production management. Over the past seven decades, ALBP has evolved significantly—from a straightforward task-to-station assignment problem to a complex, multi-objective optimization challenge that reflects the intricacies of contemporary manufacturing systems. This transformation has been especially pronounced in the last two decades, driven by the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies, increasing emphasis on sustainability, and the emerging human-centered paradigms associated with Industry 5.0. In this article, we review recent advancements and integrate contributions selected for this Special Issue, which builds on papers presented at the IFIP APMS 2021 and IFAC MIM 2022 conferences. With 37 papers selected from over 90 submissions, this Special Issue represents the first dedicated collection on ALBP since the 2006 special issue in the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), and it reflects the field’s remarkable progression during a period of profound transformation in manufacturing

When and how is abusive supervision enacted toward competent subordinates? The role of supervisors' power loss concern and downward envy
International audienceIn general, supervisor abuse is directed toward low- performing subordinates. Similarly, envy is typically felt by professionals in lower ranks toward those in higher positions. By contrast, this study investigates the counterintuitive relationship between the abusive behavior of envious leaders toward their competent subordinates. Specifically, we argue that supervisors become envious of competent employees when they are anxious about losing power. Multisource, time- lagged data collected from dyads (198 supervisors and 198 subordinates) in Pakistan-based organizations sup- port the proposed hypotheses. The findings show a pos- itive relationship between perceptions of subordinate competence, supervisors' downward envy, and abusive supervision. In addition, the relationship between perceived subordinates' competence and supervisors' envy is strong when supervisors' power loss concerns are high. This study provides useful theoretical and practical insights for human resource managers dealing with unethical workplace behavior
The ripple effect of abusive supervision: A longitudinal examination of psychological contract breach, turnover intentions, and resilience among third parties
International audienceBeing a direct target of abusive supervision is known to have detrimental effects on the targeted employee’s psychological contract (PC). This paper however introduces a novel finding: abusive supervision not only affects direct targets, but also negatively affects the internalized mental schema of third-party observers. That is, contrary to traditional expectations of psychological contract (PC) theory, which posit that only events affecting the direct employee-supervisor relationship shape one’s PC, our longitudinal study, among 274 Dutch employees who observed abusive supervision in their workplace, demonstrates that merely observing abusive supervision can lead to a PC breach in third parties. This internalization of observing abusive supervision alters the observers’ perceptions of their own relationship with the supervisor, triggering higher turnover intentions and actual turnover. In addition, we argue that resilience acts as a vital personal resource. In this study, resilience helps third-party observers buffer the psychological damage caused by observing abusive supervision. Specifically, individuals with higher levels of resilience are better able to withstand the negative impacts of observed abusive behaviors, reducing the likelihood of PC breach but not one’s turnover intentions and actual turnover. This finding highlights the underexplored value of resilience as a personal resource in mitigating the ripple effects of abusive supervision on one’s PC. Implications for PC theory and practice are discussed
Revisiting the Judgment of Paris The Rise and the Fall of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars
International audienceIn this short note, we show that the results of the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris, a blind wine tasting of ten wines by eleven judges which ranked a Californian wine, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars as first, do no longer hold. The “best” wines are French (Cha^teau Haut-Brion, Cha^teau Le´oville Las Cases, and Cha^teau Mouton Rothschild). Two Californian wines (Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello and Heitz Wine Cellars) are very close to some of the Great Grands Crus de Bordeaux, but Stag’s Leap is far behind. It is not celar what happened. Either the wine was overated in 1976, or its quality decreased over time
Serious Games on Human Behavior: Impact on Learning Styles, Engagement, and Motivation
International audienceCapturing learners' attention in the classroom has become challenging. Learners have different learning styles influencing their attitude towards learning processes and contents. Serious Games (SG) are rich and promising learning tools that have been introduced to support a new form of gamified learning, mainly to enhance students' engagement and motivation. Such games facilitate learning because they generate enthusiasm and are part of a learning-by-doing experience. This study analyzes the role of learning styles and motivation on learner cognitive engagement and performance when using SG. Answers from 188 users of a serious game conducted in KEDGE Business School were analyzed. The findings show that learning goals have a strong positive effect on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The paper reveals that learning styles have a significant impact upon both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The latter is also influenced by learning styles as is cognitive engagement. Finally, the future research directions are presented

Corporate Social Responsibility, Affect and Change in Public organizations
International audienceLocal governments face major challenges in terms of innovation and performance. New Public Management reforms have introduced more strategic and performance-oriented management practices. However, these reforms have often overlooked the impact of organizational change on employees themselves, resulting in implementation difficulties and high failure rates for managerial innovations in the public secto
