Exploring the Risks of International SupplyChain Financial Warehouse Receipts Pledge Model: A Structural Equation Approach

    No full text
International audienceThe COVID-19 pandemic had severely hit the global economy. Many enterprises have come to the critical moment of survival. The international supply chain finance, assuming a significant positive role, can alleviate an enterprise facing a financial dilemma. Due to the current turbulent environment, international supply chain finance also confronts a lot of risks. The paper aims to focus on the risk of the warehouse receipt pledge financing model, which is widely used in international supply chain finance. We propose a new risk evaluation index system for the risk of international supply chain financial warehouse receipt pledge model, using the Structural Equation Modelling. The paper explains the influencing factors of the financial warehouse receipt pledge model on the international supply chain during this pandemic. This study provides valuable insights for managers to mitigate the risks in international supply chain financial warehouse receipts pledge and offers future research opportunities to international supply chain scholars

Consumption networks in times of social distancing: towards entrained solidarity

    No full text
International audienceHow does solidarity gel together disjointed entities in a web of social relations? This study examineshow solidarity catalyzes unconnected entities (people, things, and institutions) in a consumptionnetwork by analyzing Spesasospesa.org, an Italian consumption network that was developed duringlockdowns resulting from Covid-19. We find that solidarity enables the emergence of this networkbecause of three main practices: (1) synchronization, (2) appropriation, and (3) narration. Solidarityhas typically been depicted in the consumer culture literature as a given trait of consumer collectives, but our study shows that solidarity in fact plays a key role in gelling social links at the nexusof antistructure and structure. Therefore, our research extends past literature on consumersociality by unveiling the role that entrained solidarity plays in the emergence of consumptionnetworks in times of social distancing

Assisting visitor path creation in experiential tourist attractions

    No full text
International audienceThe question of how to design the visitor journey in experiential settings has received limited attention in the tourist movement literature. In two related studies conducted at a leading wine tourism museum, it was examined whether experiential attractions should provide assistance to visitors in creating their paths. Study 1, a field experiment, shows that providing assistance is beneficial to visitors because it increases spatial control, hedonic value, and overall satisfaction. Study 2, a simulation model using real-life behavioral data, examines the effects of visitor assistance on operational performance, providing a more nuanced picture. The results enrich the literature focused on identifying the dominant paths taken by visitors and extend the descriptive findings of previous studies by considering the performance implications of the path creation decision. From a management perspective, this research highlights trade-offs between resource utilization, congestion levels, and visitor perceptions that should be considered when determining the most appropriate journey design

Barriers toward circular economy transition: Exploring different stakeholders' perspectives

    No full text
International audienceAbstract Circular economy (CE) attempts to improve the environmental and economic performance of existing production systems and particularly waste management through the introduction of principles of reduction, reuse, recycling, recovery, redesign, and remanufacture. There are still many challenges regarding its implementation. This article investigates the barriers to adopting CE practices in the Brazilian waste management system. In the empirical research first stage, a workshop was conducted with researchers and managers. In the second stage, 1 year later, interviews were conducted in 22 organizations across different categories of the waste system. The outcomes indicate that barriers are more related to the implementation of CE practices, and the lack of legislation enforcement and coordination of distinct levels of government. New dimensions for explaining barriers to CE in developing countries also emerged from field research as the low market value of some residues and the informality in the system

Conception et évaluation d’un dispositif d’assurance qualité dans l’enseignement supérieur en gestion

International audienceAs a major tool used by academic institutions to drive their continuous improvement process, quality assurance is now a component of their entrepreneurial approach. The issue is crucial in the field of business education where accreditations are playing a strategic role. In France, it is a basis of the evaluation of private institutions and of the recognition of their programs and diplomas. Quality assurance has been applied to many aspects of higher education and it is now widely considered that assessment of learning outcomes should be part of the process. In this paper, we introduce a pedagogical framework that contributes to quality assurance through providing stakeholders with relevant information about students performance regarding a program’s learning goals and program’s heads with data to be used for continuous improvement. We describe an implementation of the framework in the context of fundamental courses in management and discuss the importance of grounding quality assurance in authoritative academic achievement standards.L’assurance qualité devient progressivement une composante majeure de l’évolution entrepreneuriale des institutions d’enseignement supérieur.

Hyperconnected Urban Synchromodality: Synergies between Freight and People Mobility

    No full text
International audienceThis paper investigates the opportunity to exploit an on-demand freight transshipment service in urban areas. This contribution attempts at first to focus on the feasibility to connect people and freight mobility with a joint usage of transportation options. It builds on the hyperconnectivity principles enabled by the Physical Internet (PI) manifesto for city logistics. To this end, this paper proposes an effective solution approach for optimizing multimodal on-demand transshipment. The approach considers multiple mobility options such as on-demand delivery services, cargo bikes, tramways, and buses to transship goods from an urban logistic hub to another. The hyperconnected synchromodal mobility solution is proposed as an alternative option to classical pickup and delivery-based transportation. The proposal is first characterized in link with the interconnectivity needs and then its operability is modeled as a new transportation approach. The proposed solution aims to increase the sustainability of cities by reducing congestion levels, the impact of logistics moves, as well as carbon emissions in urban areas. An illustrative case is provided to demonstrate how the novel hyperconnected synchromodal transportation system could operate, and to provide an evaluation of the economic and sustainability benefits of such system in an urban context

The principal-agent problem in hierarchical policy making: A failure of policy to support the transition to LNG as an alternative shipping fuel

    No full text
International audienceThis paper addresses the role of policy in driving technology change to reduce maritime transport emissions. While liquefied natural gas (LNG) is little better than fuel oil from a carbon perspective, it emits very low levels of other pollutants Sulphur Oxides (SOx), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM). However, despite a great deal of policy effort, the switch from fuel oil to LNG has not occurred at significant scale. Policy makers are already turning towards other fuels such as hydrogen. This paper explores the failure of policy to support the transition to LNG through the lens of the principal-agent problem, examining the influence of its key challenges at the intersection of three geographical scales (international, supranational and national) in the European Union. The case analysis reveals a lack of incentive alignment between both different levels of public actors (the EU and member states) and between public and private actors, producing a lack of agency and an uncertainpolicy environment, exacerbated by a lack of monitoring and sanctions by the EU of its member states. This research provides a better understanding of the shortcomings of transition policy in the case of LNG which provides lessons on the need for more coherent, comprehensive and stringent policy that could prevent another policy failure in the transition towards other alternative fuels. This paper addresses the role of policy in driving technology change to reduce maritime transport emissions.
