Ideological Resistance in Early Soviet Azerbaijan: A Textual Analysis of a Unique Archival Document

    No full text
The article analyses the anti-Soviet sentiments and movements in Soviet Azerbaijan in the late 1920s and early 1930s on the basis of Strictly Confidential documents received to the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Azerbaijan SSR. Particular attention is paid to the reflection of anti-Russian sentiments on the basis of an analysis of both the document and two interesting poems, which show the perception of Russians both among the anti-Bolshevik-minded segments of the population associated with parties operating underground and among young people. Textual analysis of this document shows that anti-Bolshevik sentiments often acquired a pronounced anti-Russian character. All these circumstances were manifested in the dissatisfaction of various strata of Azerbaijani society with the Soviet regime, which, along with anti-Russian sentiments, also acquired the character of pro-Turkish movements

Metallurgy and Ancient Mining in Tujerdi District of Fars Province, Iran

    No full text
The production of metal artifacts, as one of the earliest forms of industry and craftsmanship, has long attracted scholarly attention. Iran has historically been one of the primary centers for metal production across various periods. The geology of Fars Province reveals rich mineral resources that have supported mining activities since ancient times. This study is based on archaeological surveys conducted in the Tujerdi district of Sarchahan County, located in eastern Fars. During these surveys, one mine and nine slag sites were identified. Further surveys are expected to uncover additional sites related to ancient mining and metallurgical activities. The investigation also contributes to understanding the role of mining in the formation and economy of past societies. Based on the findings, it appears that copper and iron were the main metals extracted in the region. Pottery collected from the surveyed sites suggests chronological spans ranging from the Parthian to the Sasanian and Islamic periods

FAKE NEWS JAKO NOWA RZECZYWISTOŚĆ FUNKCJONOWANIABRANŻY ENERGETYCZNEJ

    No full text
Access to information and the ability to disseminate the same have today become seamless. On the one hand, the number of available data is snowballing. On the other hand, new threats are emerging, such as fake news items; albeit many of the origins can be traced back to the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2. A corresponding phenomenon could be noted at the time of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Western sanctions and Russian efforts to blackmail Europe through its energy supply, contributed to a growing number of fake news concerning the energy market. The above trajectories have prompted the author to analyse the phenomenon of fake news as being the new reality that has had a significant impact on the operations of both energy recipients and energy market. The purpose of the article is to determine the extent of false news, above all, those relating to the power industry, and public susceptibility to fake news. The findings of the conducted research demonstrate that fake news about the power industry is a common occurrence; although, the extent of energy-related news is smaller than that of disinformation regarding, say, the COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, whenever disinformation about the energy technology reaches the public, it is likely to be subjected to distortion and misrepresentation.

Ostatnie pobory, czyli stosunek kadry zawodowej Ludowego Wojska Polskiego do alumnów Wyższych Seminariów Duchownych odbywających zasadniczą służbę wojskową w okresie PRL w końcu lat siedemdziesiątych XX w. Zarys problematyki

    No full text
This article is an attempt to analyse the attitude of professional staff towards alumni doing basicmilitary service during the communist period in the late 1970s. It describes the hardships of soldier’s life, the application of military regulations, which in the case of seminarians were exceptionally strict. At the same time, it presents the methods that were used against the alumni in order to lead them to withdraw from the seminary. Above all, the author presents the massive propaganda conducted mainly by political officers of the Polish People’s Army directed against the Catholic Church in Poland. At the same time, he presents the involvement in this process of the commanding staff, whose methods of dealing with the alumni may have led to a weakening of the authority of the army in society.Artykuł jest próbą analizy stosunku kadry zawodowej do alumnów odbywających zasadniczą służbę wojskową w okresie PRL w końcu lat siedemdziesiątych XX w. Opisuje trudy żołnierskiego życia, stosowanie regulaminów wojskowych, które w przypadku kleryków były wyjątkowo surowe. Jednocześnie przedstawia metody, jakie stosowano wobec alumnów, aby doprowadzić do ich wystąpienia z seminarium. Autor prezentuje przede wszystkim zmasowaną propagandę prowadzoną głównie przez oficerów politycznych LWP, kierowaną przeciw Kościołowi katolickiemu w Polsce. Jednocześnie przedstawia zaangażowanie w ten proces kadry dowódczej, której metody postępowania wobec alumnów mogły doprowadzić do osłabienia autorytetu wojska w społeczeństwie

Analytical Study of Ahmad Kasravi’s Claim of Prophethood based on Adler’s Psychological Theory

    No full text
Ahmad Kasravi was among the thinkers with religious intellectualism tendencies, whose opinions on religion in contemporary Iranian history were among the most controversial ones. According to the Peyman monthly magazine, Kasravi initially expressed his views as a religious reformer and presented a rationalist-based ritual called “Pure Religion” in the guise of a prophet. Kasravi’s personality traits are used to explain his approach in propagating the new religion. The present study aims to assess Kasravi’s claim to be a prophet with an interdisciplinary approach utilizing Adler’s psychological theory and Peyman magazine. Based on Adler’s theory, pampering and suffering from anemia resulted in developing a special personality and creating a sense of inferiority in Kasravi. Kasravi’s successes in historical studies led to a kind of compensation for his inferiority, superiority, and development of his creative self-approach. As this approach intensified and he criticized religious dissenters, an imaginary teleology developed in Kasravi’s mind, leading to his claim to be prophet and presentation of a new religion

The burial tradition of Zoroastrians in southern Fars: Baghān, Khonj

    No full text
Fars province, located in the southern part of Iran, was the center of Zoroastrianism during the Achaemenid and Sasanian periods. The traditions and rituals of this religion were institutionalized in Fars over a millennium, and with the advent of Islam, the people of this region sought to continue these Zoroastrian traditions. The Zoroastrian burial ritual was one of the religious customs of the Zoroastrian community in this region, continuing well into the Islamic medieval period, particularly in the southern part of Fars. In this religion, the body, or “nesu”, had to be kept away from sacred elements such as earth, water, fire, and plants. For this reason, many Sasanian burials were placed in rock-hewn tombs located in mountainous regions. These burial sites are now commonly known as Ostoudan and Dakhmak. In this field study, for the first time, a number of lesser-known Ostoudan examples from the Zoroastrian tradition in southern Fars, specifically in the Baghān region of Khonj, have been identified and are introduced here
