Emotionality and Biblical inspiration of the Baroque poemabout the earthquake in Komárno by Š. Korbeľ

    No full text
The paper focuses on the analysis of the Baroque catastrophic poem “Memorable reflections on the terrible earthquake, which took place in the year 1763 near the end of the month of June in the Hungarian land to prove the terrible wrath of God against the perpetrators of iniquity, in which the famous and beautiful city of Komárno is especially impoverished and deprived of its glory, contained in short verses and written by one of the gardeners working in Christ´s garden. Anno 1763 die 29. Julii” by Štefan Korbeľ. The author views the poem through the prism of the emotions regarding the earthquake, the inhabitants of Komárno, as well as those attributed to the city, the whole world, and the anthropomorphically depicted God. The emphasis is laid on the origin of poetic imagery, which predominantly echoes the Biblical texts. Korbeľ considers the earthquake as a manifestation of God\u27s wrath and punishment, but also as a test and warning for the survivors. The poet sees it as a sign of the Last Judgment and compares it to eternal torment in hell. The Professor in Crisis: Pascal Mercier’s novel Perlmann’s Silence

This paper analyzes and interprets the emotionality of the main character, Philipp Perlmann, in relation to other male protagonists in the novel Perlmann’s Silence (German original 1995, Slovak translation 2023), situating it within the broader context of the crisis in the academic world and the humanities, as well as the crisis of masculinity. Through the personal narrator Philipp Perlmann, Pascal Mercier reproduces several masculine stereotypes. The protagonist embodies the image of an academic undergoing both a personal crisis (the death of his wife) and a professional one (connected to the decline of the humanities). The latter, in particular, evokes a sense of shame and fear of failure, rooted in his conviction that he does not meet others’ expectations of his professional role. This pressure is further reinforced by social norms of masculinity, which define weakness, vulnerability, or insecurity as threats to male identity. Consequently, silence emerges as a significant cognitive and symbolic motif. Mercier demonstrates a profound understanding of the crisis in the humanities, exacerbated by neoliberal pressures. However, he does not propose a systemic solution; instead, he introduces the process of translation as a means of rediscovering the protagonist’s academic identity. In selected alternative Slovak media, symptomatic emotional-expressive lexemes were identified in public written speeches by five politically active Slovak men. These speeches exhibit characteristic emotional-expressive styles that both reveal the speakers’ own emotions and seek to influence the emotional responses of their intended audiences. The lexemes serve as markers of evaluative relationships linked to the perception and interpretation of specific events. Positive and negative emotional evaluations are often intertwined with intellectual evaluative components, reflecting the speakers’ cognitive and psychological engagement. A combined linguistic and content analysis was conducted on selected texts published in 2022. The alternative monthly Extraplus, in particular, provides space for emotionally charged and argumentative contributions, which frequently include manipulative or conspiratorial content. The study focuses on identifying emotionality in language through symptomatic emotional-expressive lexemes, which manifest in figurative and indirect expressions, idioms, as well as ironic and sarcastic constructions. In selected alternative Slovak media, symptomatic emotional-expressive lexemes were identified in public written speeches by five politically active Slovak men. The article discusses the concept of surveillance capitalism, as developed by Shoshana Zuboff, which she presents as a new form of economic order with significant negative consequences for the social order. Zuboff\u27s concept of instrumental power sheds new light on the issues of power and control in contemporary society, particularly in relation to the tension between instrumental power and traditional (especially democratic) control structures. It highlights the implications of its global nature and the problems associated with decision-making automation based on algorithms. An essential element of Zuboff\u27s analysis is the exploration of the negative consequences of this new form of power for the functioning of individuals within society. The description of these consequences, both at the systemic and individual levels, can be seen as a mapping of threats that are critical from the perspective of security studies.

    Women in the Red Brigades

The article presents an analysis of women’s participation in the Italian terrorist organization, the Red Brigades, approached from the perspective of critical theories, particularly gender studies, while also drawing on tools of hermeneutics (theory of interpretation). Various sources were analyzed, including strategic documents, court records, television and press interviews, as well as personal documents and epistolography. Due to the limited volume, the case study method was used to create a functional and genre-appropriate catalog of the narratives of women-brigadisti. The hypothesis posited that women in the Red Brigades embodied the phenomenon of ‘new femininity’, shaped by the global socio-cultural movement of the late 1960s (the ’68 movement), which manifested in a new form of women’s political violence that transcended traditional patriarchal roles. The narrative is divided into three distinct sections. The first section examines the Italian feminist movement, emphasizing its local specificity and connections to other trends in the Italian left during that period. The second section focuses on the gender-based division of roles within the Red Brigades, highlighting the equal participation of women, including their involvement in the organization’s most violent actions. The third section amplifies the voices of the women involved, exploring their motivations, autonomous choices, expectations, and the disappointments they encountered throughout the armed struggle. The analysis confirms the hypothesis that women in the Red Brigades represented a new generation formed by profound global socio-cultural transformations at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, while also reflecting the distinctive characteristics of Italian leftist ideology

The aim of the article is to present the issue of accessibility for people with special needs in relation to legal provisions and everyday life.
