No full text
National audienceThis article examines the normative foundations of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Part one maps the axiological fault lines in ADR scholarship, contrasting justificatory accounts of ADR's market-based logic with critical perspectives on the commodification of dispute resolution. Part two presents findings from participant observation within an ADR training course, revealing the ethical codes and technical requirements that structure professional practice. This analysis demonstrates the utility of the concept of minor sources for understanding how negotiated law operates in practice.

Influence of Velars and Uvulars on Vowel Context in Four Typologically Unrelated Languages

No full text
International audienceWe investigate the coarticulation between velars~uvulars and surrounding vowels in four languages from three unrelated families where velars and uvulars as phonemes: Alutor (Chukotko-Kamchatkan), Chukchi (Chukotko-Kamchatkan), Mehweb (East Caucasian), and Shughni (Southeastern Iranian < Indo-European). Following the Laryngeal Articulator Model (LAM), the articulation of uvulars requires tongue rising and retraction. As the articulation of velars does not require retraction of the tongue, we expect the quality of vowels to exhibit changes in the uvular environment compared to velar. Various acoustic properties of vowels in the context of velar and uvular stops are investigated including static and dynamic properties with the quality of vowels at the stationary and transition periods. To confirm that the coarticulatory processes are connected to the uvular environment, we compare the contribution of various properties of vowels to the differentiation between velars and uvulars using Random Forests (RF) classification tool. While vowel quality changes in the uvular environment in all four languages; the quality of vowels at the midpoints, onset/offset, dynamics of formants show different contribution to the differentiation between velars and uvulars across the four languages. The variability concerns the type of changes (retraction or centralization of vowels), direction of coarticulation, whether coarticulatory effects are observed only on transitions or affect the quality at the midpoint.</div

Rapport de recherche Transition Rapide et Juste des Élevages Bretons

No full text
This report, produced as part of the Trajé’Bretons project, aims to shed light on the various forms of energy transition in agriculture and to examine their implications in terms of economic performance, as well as environmental and social issues. Indeed, a socio-technical transition such as the energy transition entails major disruptions, particularly in the commitments and practices of the actors involved, foremost among them livestock farmers. The transformations brought about by these transitions require an inevitable reorganization of farms and affect not only their economic performance, but also employment, working conditions, farmers’ health, professional practices, and their relationship to their occupation and its role in society. Focusing on the case of Brittany (France), this report seeks to understand how farmers and agriculture are being reshaped through the implementation of the energy transition. These changes may be perceived as more or less fair, and as sufficiently rapid—or not—to contribute effectively to the energy transition required in response to the ongoing ecological crisis.

The anthropomorphism of social robots: A strategy to cope with a lack of control?

No full text
International audienceBy making the social robot more familiar and predictable, anthropomorphism -the attribution of human traits to non-human agents -is conceived in the literature as a strategy to compensate for a lack of control perception. This strategy would restore meaning and structure to the social environment. However, the literature does not identify the type of control perception to which this strategy applies, nor the consequences for the acceptability of social robots. To this end, two experimental studies investigated the role of two kinds of perception of control (over life events or over the social robot) on anthropomorphism and acceptability of a social robot. Study 1 showed that anthropomorphism compensates for a lack of control perception over life events, while in Study 2, a lack of control perception over the social robot reduces its acceptability. Taken together, these studies provide an initial reflection on the conditions for the integration of social robots in our daily lives.</div

No full text
Midisciences 2026 Avignon Université The exhibition of human remains is currently the subject of controversy in the museum world and in legal circles. This doctoral thesis examines a fundamental question in museum ethics: under what conditions can a museum exhibit human remains, and more specifically Egyptian mummies, as heritage objects while respecting their dignity?

A solution to the mystery of the sub-harmonic series via a linear model of the cochlea

No full text
In this paper, we study a simple linear model of the cochlea as a set of vibrating strings. We make hypothesis that the information sent to the auditory cortex is the energy stored in the strings and consider all oscillation modes of the strings. We show the emergence of the sub-harmonic series whose existence was hypothesized in the XVI century to explain the consonance of the minor chord. We additionally show how the nonlinearity of the energy can be used to study the emergence of the combination tone (Tartini’s third sound) shedding new light on this long debated subject

Exploring factors affecting malaria vaccination intention and COVID-19 vaccine uptake: evidence from a joint analysis in rural Senegal

No full text
International audienceBackground: Current malaria vaccination efforts target infants from 5 months of age; however, adult malaria mortality remains a significant and under-reported issue in high-transmission settings. Concerns are emerging that COVID-19-related vaccine hesitancy may extend to upcoming vaccines, including hypothetical ones such as a malaria vaccine for adults. This study investigates both shared and vaccine-specific determinants of malaria vaccination intention, comparing them with those influencing COVID-19 vaccine uptake. Methods: A cross-sectional telephone survey was conducted in 2023 among 795 adults residing in the rural area of Niakhar, Senegal. The Health Belief Model served as the analytical framework to identify determinants of vaccination behaviours and intentions. A multivariable bivariate probit model was used to jointly assess factors associated with favourable intentions to receive a hypothetical adult malaria vaccine and actual uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine. Results: Among surveyed participants, 35.6% had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 58.6% expressed favourable intentions to receive a malaria vaccine, assuming it were available and free of charge. COVID-19vaccinated individuals were 60% (p < 0.001) more likely to report favourable intentions to receive a malaria vaccine. In the multivariable probit model, perceived disease severity was more strongly associated with COVID-19 vaccine uptake, whereas perceived disease susceptibility more strongly predicted favourable intentions to receive a malaria vaccine. Women were more likely to support malaria vaccination (p = 0.005), while adults aged 59 years and older had higher rates of COVID-19 vaccination (p < 0.001).Conclusions: These findings suggest that although some determinants are vaccine-specific, most are shared across vaccines. The results offer actionable insights to guide future malaria vaccination strategies. Further research in urban settings and across diverse countries is warranted to enhance understanding of cross-vaccine perceptions and to inform targeted communication efforts.</p
