No full textInternational audienceCette communication présente pour la première fois en France le site web Pratinada, portail d’archives sonores qui regroupe plusieurs bases de données musicales situées en Europe.Lancé en 2025, Pratinada.net est un portail en ligne dédié aux archives sonores et musicales de l’Asie du Sud-Est, permettant d’accéder librement à des milliers d’enregistrements historiques conservés principalement en Europe. Créé dans le cadre du projet DeCoSEAS (Décolonisation des archives sonores d’Asie du Sud-Est) par une équipe française du CNRS, la base de données en ligne vise à rendre ces patrimoines accessibles aux communautés d’origines. Multilingue et géolocalisé, il offre une navigation par pays, cultures ou périodes, couvrant une vaste zone allant de la Birmanie à la Papouasie, et constitue un outil scientifique, pédagogique et patrimonial majeur pour chercheurs et publics intéressés par l’histoire des musiques et des sons du monde.Cette présentation aborde les questions de pérennité des données et les aspects techniques de l'interface utilisateu

No full textInternational audienceCet article présente les enjeux d’une mission épigraphique en Chine menée par l’équipe du projet ANR Altergraphy(2023-2027). Les participants à la mission documentent une série d’inscriptions en milieu montagneux, gravées à même les falaises brutes, et attribuées à Zheng Daozhao, préfet local et poète taoïste du viᵉ siècle. Cette forme d’écriture particulière suscite une attention renouvelée envers la complexité du fait épigraphique.À travers diverses expériences de cartographie et de mises en récit, le projet cherche à intégrer l’héritage de la tradition lettrée chinoise. Cette dernière, constituée à partir du xᵉ siècle par un réseau de lettrés, d’érudits et de collectionneurs, a joué un rôle déterminant dans la transmission et la valorisation de ces « monuments » lithiques. Dans le sillage de ces pratiques, le cadre matériel et symbolique de production des paysages inscrits, ainsi que la dimension sociale de leur réception, s’enrichissent d'une dimension sensible

Verbless Sentences in Russian: Semantico-Pragmatic Insights from a Contrastive Corpus Perspective
No full textInternational audienceFocusing on structures in which the typical marker of sentential status – the verbal predicate –is absent, the present paper takes an interdisciplinary approach that combines contrastivelinguistics, corpus methods and enunciative analysis in order to explore the semantic andpragmatic characteristics of verbless sentences.Contrastive results concerning the Russian and English use of syntactic ellipsis show thatthe verbless sentence – a phenomenon which distinguishes Russian among Indo-Europeanlanguages and which we show to occur twice as frequently in Russian compared to English –is not explained by the syntactic productivity of Russian. As tempting as syntactic explanationsmay be (no doubt the Russian highly developed case system and flexibility of word order giveimmense advantages for unambiguous ellipsis), they do not explain the high frequency ofverbless sentences in Russian: syntactic antecedent-based ellipses (including stripping,sluicing, and gapping) were found to match in translation, e.g. (1), and, even more surprisingly,to occur more frequently in English than in Russian, e.g. (2). Furthermore, most verblesssentences were not based on a syntactic antecedent, e.g. (3). (1) Syntactic ellipses in Russian were matched by an ellipsis in English translation(2) Syntactic ellipses were more frequent in English than in Russian(3) Syntactically non-elliptical verbless utterances dominateWe show that the frequency of the absence of the verb is an issue for semantico-pragmaticanalysis, rather than for the syntactic domain.Furthermore, semantico-pragmatic classification of nearly 20,000 verbless sentences interms of the constituents that statistically distinguish them from verbal sentences (key wordsand n-grams computed against a reference corpus) reveals the characteristic functions of thestructures. These include: (dis)agreement, expressiveness, quantification, (in)formality, deixis,questioning and emphasis of intensity.Using a new method for the automatic retrieval of verbless sentences and a 1,4-millionword parallel and comparable corpus of 19th–21st century literature specially built for the task(Bondarenko 2021, 2019, 2018; Bondarenko & Celle 2018, 2020), we are able to propose asemantico-pragmatic portrait of the prototypical Russian verbless sentence

Now You Can Find It All on the Internet: Spelling Out Secret Knowledge in China and the Challenge of Complexity
No full textInternational audienceThis study examines the challenges that Chinese practitioners of divination face as their specialized knowledge becomes increasingly available online. Traditionally, diviners rely on body-based computation skills to memorize and apply complex techniques. These skills are the hallmarks of an expertise whose transmission is usually safeguarded within a personal relationship between master and disciple. However, some practitioners disclose these skills in online videos making them available to a wide audience. This work analyzes the rhetoric that practitioners develop when revealing secret knowledge to the general public in the broader context of changing modes of knowledge transmission and in contrast to other fields of traditional knowledge in China. I rely on the analysis of a video disclosing specialized skills called “Secret formulas of the palm” ( shouzhang jue 手掌诀 ) to show how, through online dissemination, specialists of divination use complexity as a rhetorical device in the construction of their expertise
