Mongolic Perspectives on Bilingual Verbs: The Case of Chinese Influence on Dongxiang and the Dörbed Mongolian Community Language
No full textInternational audienceThis study examines bilingual verbs in two Mongolic languages of China, Dongxiang (Gansu) and the Dörbed Mongolian Community Language (Heilongjiang), where Chinese functions as the donor language in bilingual speech and the Mongolic languages as matrix languages. In bilingual communities, bilingual verbs consist of a lexical item from a donor language that is integrated into the matrix language, with various strategies of integration documented for a wide range of different languages spoken around the world. We analyse how sociolinguistic context, community identity, and the specific variety of Chinese involved affect the morphosyntactic features of bilingual verbs in each language. Dongxiang, spoken in a stable, religion-centred community with long-term bilingualism due to historical contacts with the Chinese variety of Linxia, contrasts with the more recent and variable bilingualism in Dörbed Mongolian, shaped by Northeast Mandarin influence. Using Muysken’s framework (2000) for bilingual verbs, we explore if universal patterns in bilingual verb integration apply to these cases. We also assess Matras’ verb borrowing continuum (2009) to understand how Dongxiang’s and Dörbed's borrowed verb structures are shaped.Key words: Bilingual verbs, Mongolic languages, bilingualism, Dörbed, Dongxiang, Dongbei dialect, Linxia dialec

No full textThis text presents the methodological principles of the ANR GENgiBRe project ‘Relationship with nature and gender equality. Feminist practices and mobilisation in agroecology in Brazil’ and draws lessons from it: integrating research, as a process of knowledge construction, into transformative action allows some access to the knowledge of dominated populations. This is a necessary and ‘effective’ method for this type of subject, but it also implies a responsibility on the part of researchers to balance the uses of this knowledge. It involves allocating time and human and financial resources to its use by local communities, and not just to academic purposes

No full textInternational audienceThe roundtable explores the role of Catholic education in Vietnam amid the upheavals of the twentieth century, from French colonization to the economic opening of the 1990s. Through a historical, sociological, and religious approach, it examines how the Church contributed to the formation of elites, the preservation of Catholic identity, and the adaptation to successive political regimes. The presentations also shed light on Vatican diplomacy, the evolution of educational institutions, and the resilience strategies of Catholic communities in a context of war, repression, and modernization. This reflection opens a dialogue on the interactions between religion, education, and society in processes of national transformation.La table-ronde explore le rôle de l’éducation catholique au Vietnam face aux bouleversements du XXᵉ siècle, de la colonisation française à l’ouverture économique des années 1990. À travers une approche historique, sociologique et religieuse, elle examine comment l’Église a contribué à la formation des élites, à la préservation de l’identité catholique, et à l’adaptation aux régimes politiques successifs. Modeling and structuring of a bilingual French-Chinese phraseological dictionary : neural automatic approach for ontology and lexicography
No full textInternational audienceThis project builds a French–Chinese bilingual dictionary of idioms (e.g., avoir la main heureuse [to have a lucky hand]), which are considered phrasemes (Mel’čuk, 2011) or phraseological units (Mel’čuk, 2008; Mejri, 2011; Sułkowska, 2016; Chen, 2021). The idioms are grouped by themes such as the human body, animals, plants, or numbers. We focus on the concepts human body and animal, both in literal and metaphorical uses. For instance, the hand can mean a body part, a tool for work, or a symbol of power.To link idioms to their meanings, we use an ontology-based method rather than manual tools like Protégé. Following the Ontology Layer Cake model (Despres & Szulman, 2008; Tiwari & Jain 2014), we apply a step-by-step automated process to a specialized corpus: 1) Idioms are extracted using statistical methods (TF-IDF, PMI, RAKE) and tagged via a Streamlit interface. 2) Co-occurring words help build a weighted graph of relations. 3) AI models (e.g., BERT) classify the links by meaning. 4) The interface supports sorting, export (OWL/RTF), graph viewing (PyVis), and timing. 5) Finally, the OntoLex-Lemon model is used to generate an RDF/OWL bilingual dictionary
