Several cycles associated with the revelations of this master are not included in the present collection. Their absence remains, so far, a mystery. 3The number of volumes clearly attests to the importance of this master for the Northern Treasures.</div

    Coverb constructions in Papuan languages

    No full text
International audienceCoverb constructions (aka verb adjunct constructions) have been claimed to be a typical and wide-spread phenomenon among the languages of Papua. This chapter explores the role of coverb expressions in the lexicon, their semantic and morphosyntactic properties, and possible diachronic scenarios that might have led to the loss of coverb expressions in a given language. In particular, we strive to provide operationalizable means for determining the syntactic status and the word-class membership of the light-verb complement, and for delimiting coverb expressions from other, related constructions. However, we also point to the analytical problems that remain when trying to define and delineate coverbs and coverb expressions, for example, when trying to distinguish them from verb-noun idioms

International audienceSituated at the intersection of sociophonetics, semiotic anthropology and enactive linguistics, this book explores how linguistic variation is unequally reinterpreted depending on stereotypes about the speaker. Focused on the Colombian Caribbean coast, it reveals processes of discrimination through the differential perception of variation through the prism of social and racial dynamics.Situado en la intersección de la sociolingüística, la antropología semiótica y la lingüística enactiva, este libro explora cómo la variación lingüística es reinterpretada de manera desigual según los estereotipos asociados al hablante. Centré sur la côte caraïbe colombienne, il met en lumière les processus de discrimination à travers la perception différenciée de la variation, au prisme des dynamiques sociales et raciales

The working-class household economy. Frugality, discipline, and strategies

    No full text
International audienceThis chapter focuses on the budget organisation and consumption habits of the working classes. The aim is to highlight and analyse the economic and social logics at work in the balancing of the domestic economy of working-class households. After the Second World War in Japan and France, and from the 1990s onwards in China, the three countries entered a new consumption regime characterised by a new organisation of production, innovative forms of commercialisation, a change in the distribution of income between social groups, a change in the composition of household budgets, new market structures and a new culture of consumption. In this chapter, rather than macroeconomic or macrosocial arrangements, we focus on economic rationalities as experienced in the realities of everyday life. We therefore analyse the economic practices and representations of social agents as they form a system, while restoring the conditions of possibility in which they are established

« Bombay »: Des notes de terrain au roman

    No full text
