    No full text
International audienceThis paper introduces a method for describing finiteness designed for field linguists, using data from Yukuna (ISO 693-3:ycn, Glottocode: yucu1253), as outlined in Lemus Serrano's work (2020). The method involves establishing language-specific verbal and nominal prototypes, outlining the typical internal and external features of declarative verbal main clauses and Noun Phrases respectively, and using these feature grids to determine the degree to which individual constructions match or deviate from the prototypes. This methodology was applied to a sample of problematic dependent verb constructions, most of which display synchronically ambiguous nominalizing morphology. Through this systematic approach, the methodology provides a comprehensive overview of finiteness in Yukuna, enabling the ranking of constructions based on their systematically quantified degrees of nominality and verbality. This approach facilitates the identification of trends and constraints in the interaction between verbal and nominal features within clauses and languages, and allows for the testing of cross-linguistic typological hypotheses.

International audienceThis study examines family language policy concerning the transmission of Chinese dialects within four Franco-Chinese families living in France. Through an ethnographic design, data were collected through participant observations, recorded family conversations, and interviews with the family members. By exploring parents' social representations of dialect transmission, occasionally situated in the 'silent zone', this study illustrates that both Chinese mothers and French fathers perceive the transmission of Chinese dialects as a negligible concern when juxtaposed with the challenge of raising bilingual Franco-Putonghua children. Their language practices and management regarding Chinese dialect transmission are shaped by negative social representations, stemming from various factors, including Chinese and French national language policies, parents' educational and mobility experiences, and negative representations of dialects and dialect speakers. The social representations of dialect upheld by Chinese mothers are explicit, while those upheld by French fathers are often implicit, and situated in the 'silent zone'. By examining parents' explicit and 'silent zone' social representations of dialects in these families, this study underscores the broader influence exerted by national language policy in home countries on family language policy in diasporic settings and the travelling of linguistic social representations across contexts.

International audienceJaponisme revolutionized the aesthetics of the 19th century. But what remains of Japan's aesthetic influence after Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Part of “neo-Japonisme”, refusing to follow in the wake of historical Japonisme, plays the card of purity, of liberating violence, and thus appears as an instrument of catharsis. Another, more subtly subversive, on the contrary plays on continuity in an ironic approach that multiplies filters, quotations, mediations, decantations, reflections and echoes. Japonisme is returning to France by ricochet, via the United States or Japan itself. With the necessary hindsight, it is now possible to conduct an archaeology of this period, to place it within a broader trend over a longer period of time, to identify its resonances, and to interpret its discordances and concordances. It is in this light that this volume analyses, from a dialectical perspective, the evolution of literary and artistic discourse from the post-war period to the end of the 1970s, and the rise of Japanese cultural industries, which marked the start of a new imaginary. With contributions from : Sophie Basch, Véronique Brindeau, Jean-Sébastien Cluzel, Dario Gamboni, Thomas Garcin, Agnès Giard, Shigemi Inaga, Emmanuel Lozerand, Michael Lucken, Atsushi Miura, Jean-Noël Robert, Nao Sawada, Yoko Takagi.

Competing knowledges and sovereignties in the French Pacific oceanscapes

In France, the notion of 'deep-sea-deep-seabed' ('grands fonds marins') has emerged fairly recently in public policy discourse, and in particular in the wake of the 2009 Grenelle de la Mer, which marked the French government's desire for an integrated maritime policy. The Grenelle de la Mer is a public process of reflection and negotiation between the French government, elected representatives, economic and professional stakeholders in maritime affairs, and civil society, organized by the French Ministry for Sustainable Development and the Sea. Grenelle refers to the collective negotiation, initiated by the government in May 1968, with representatives of trade unions and industrial organizations, and held at the Ministry of Labor Headquarters in Grenelle Street in Paris. A national strategy regarding the deep?sea was developed in 2015 and updated in 2020 through a working group led by the General Secretariat for the Sea (under the authority of the prime minister), in which the authors of this article participated. This working group was made up of representatives from the relevant ministries, research institutes, and industry via the French Maritime Cluster. The French overseas territories were absent, even though the areas in question were mainly located in the French Pacific, which accounts for around two?thirds of the French exclusive economic zone (68%, 6.9 out of 10.2 million km2 ). In addition, New Caledonia and French Polynesia have jurisdiction over their exclusive economic zones while Wallis?and?Futuna has no formal sovereignty in this area. France's maritime policy, and in particular its deep?sea strategy, is indicative of the relationship between the French state and its overseas territories, particularly in Oceania, marked by disregard, tension, and instrumentalization. This dynamic also extends to the knowledge issue and the lack of recognition of Indigenous voices in these matters. This article will analyze this situation of epistemic injustice while underscoring the differences and commonalities in the three territories' trajectories regarding the interplay between sovereignty, environment, indigeneity, and development
