Feedback on the integration of a serious game in the business process management learning

    No full text
International audienceThe Business process concept plays a major role in the Information System (IS) domain. Business Process Management (BPM) approaches offer languages, methods and tools for modeling, execution and optimizing business processes. However, these approaches are often difficult to understand by the learners. In particular, the modeling phase often remains abstract, not consensual and complex to implement in real settings. In order to better motivate BPM learners, several BPM's Serious Games (SG) has been developed in recent years. But few studies have evaluated game based educational methods for the BPM learning. This paper presents a feedback on the SG INNOV8 use in BPM teaching. INNOV8's evaluation was conducted within the course: "Modeling and optimization of business processes," proposed to Master students. The feedback from the students and teachers were quite positive. Nevertheless, the study shows a low potential of the game for novice students in this field

Le coût du financement par obligations rachetables : une étude empirique

FNEGE 3International audienceThis paper examines the cost of financing with callable bonds on a sample of 2927 US bonds issued at par between 1984 and 2014. Our hedonic regression model indicates, among other things, that issuing callable bonds rather than ordinary bonds costs about 10% of the coupon rate and that the additional cost may vary significantly across time. Interestingly, results of a couple of decomposition models suggest that issuers may benefit from issuing callable bonds.

Can music improve e-behavioral intentions by enhancing consumers' immersion and experience?

International audienceWebsites must involve visitors in enjoyable and memorable experiences so as to entice people to re-visit the website and to recommend it. This article investigates the impact of music, and seeks to explain the observed effect by underlying processes: immersion and experience. 250 persons were surveyed for their intention to re-visit a virtual art gallery and to recommend it. The results reveal that music fosters e-behavioral intentions. They also underline that immersion and aesthetic experience (emotions and contemplation) mediate this effect. The findings, confirming the impact of music on immersion, can thus help managers design effective website

Equity Prices and Fundamentals: a DDM-APT Mixed Approach

    No full text
This paper focuses on the linkages between equity prices and fundamentals for 27 individual shares from the French stock price index (CAC40). To assess fundamental value, the traditional Dividend Discount Model (DDM) equities’ valuation principle is coupled with the Portfolio Choice Theory based on the Arbitrage Pricing Theory (APT). This yields a general equity valuation relationship for which the APT determines the long-term risk premium included in the DDM. Interestingly, restrictions are less significant than in the usual approaches since the number of risk premium factors is not limited a priori by the theory. Accordingly, our empirical results point to two major findings. On the one hand, while results in the literature based on the DDM showed that fundamental value dynamics are very smooth with respect to stock price indices, our DDM-APT model reproduces both trends and major share price fluctuations. On the other hand, a simple linear Error Correction Model (ECM) highlighted a mean-reversion process of equity prices towards their fundamental values

Vers une sémantique orientée événement des modèles de processus. Démarche de type IDM

National audienceInformation System engineering involves multiple languages for modeling, programming and handling various artifacts throughout the development cycle. Beyond abstract and concrete syntax, the specification of a language raises the tricky problem of expressing its semantics. A precise and rigorous expression of language semantics is essential to building software support tools, in particular when the language possesses executable semantics and when the construction of an execution tool is envisioned. In this paper, we present an approach in which process execution semantics are expressed using an event meta-model, and a set of transformation rules are defined and applied in order to derive the object-oriented architecture of an execution tool. This approach is illustrated on the case of a goal-oriented modeling language. To highlight the conceptual and methodological contributions of this approach, we discuss in detail how it relates and compares to a significant set of related works.L'ingénierie des systèmes d'information fait appel à de multiples langages pour modéliser, programmer et manipuler divers artéfacts tout le long du cycle de développement.

An assessment of innovation profiles of telecom operators : a longitudinal comparison between BT and Orange from 2004 to 2013

International audienceA large body of research has focused on measuring innovation and the innovativeness of firms. One option frequently chosen is to analyse quantitative indicators published, often at the expense of an intimate understanding of the specific industry or firm context. Another option is to rely on in-depth case analysis relying on methods such as extensive interviews, which can be difficult to implement for various reasons. Little research specifically focuses on network operators, and in particular over a long period In this paper we explore a methodology based on publicly available information for assessing and characterising the innovation profile of telecom operators over time. It combines quantitative and qualitative analysis and relies on an understanding of telecom operators' business. This methodology aims at allowing comparison between operators, and also to enable linking the observed innovation patterns. For example the innovation patterns observed can be related to external events such as changes in market, competition, regulation or technology. They can also be related to internal events such as change in top management or financial events. So far we have included three components in this approach: (1) an analysis of quantitative indicators, (2) an analysis of service releases, and (3) an analysis of statements of Chairmen and CEOs. The main source is annual reports of companies. In this paper, we present an exploratory analysis of two operators, BT and FT/Orange from 2004 to 2013

    Technologies numériques et environnement

International audienceThis paper discusses the relationship between digital technologies and environment. The aim is to better understand to which extent these technologies can help us to reduce our negative ecological impacts, what are their own ecological impacts and how they can be overcome. To do so, we suggest a taxonomy of the relationship between digital technologies and environment, give examples about how these technologies can help to preserve this environment, and discuss the limits of green digital technologies to save the planet

The economics of innovation : a review article

    No full text
FNEGE 2, ABS 3International audienceThis article reviews two recent handbooks in economics of innovation. It analyses the large empirical evidence summarized and identifies the foundations of the theoretical approach to the economics of innovation of these two publications. We highlight their common research questions and fields of investigation, and point to differences in their orientation to research in the economics of innovation. It seems that despite the large number of sector studies and theoretical developments we need to know more about the complex interactions among agents and the effects of pecuniary externalities. Both handbooks have different objectives and theoretical underpinnings, but both conclude that innovation is as much the result of individual action as the characteristics of the system in which individual agents are embedded
