No full textNational audienceLes États figurent aujourd’hui au premier rang des accusés dans l’échec, relatif, des politiques mises en œuvre pour respecter les engagements internationaux, en particulier ceux de l’Accord de Paris.Deux ans après que « l’Affaire du siècle » ait recueilli plus de 2 millions de signatures, la justice a jugé en février 2021 que l’État français avait commis une « faute » en se montrant incapable de tenir ses engagements de réduction des gaz à effet de serre (GES) pour la période 2015-2018.Aujourd’hui des ONG et des experts dénoncent le Traité de la charte de l’énergie, signé en 1994 et peu connu du grand public, qui protège les investissements étrangers dans la production, l’exploration, la distribution de toutes les énergies au sein de l’Union européenne.Cette protection permet aux investisseurs de saisir un tribunal d’arbitrage privé pour demander des compensations (d’un ordre de grandeur du milliard d’euros) à chaque fois qu’un gouvernement modifie, par ses politiques énergie-climat, la profitabilité d’un investissement. La pétition qui appelle l’Europe à sortir de ce traité frôle aujourd’hui le million de signatures.Chez les plus jeunes, l’adolescente suédoise Greta Thunberg a initié des grèves de milliers d’élèves, exhortant les gouvernements à durcir les politiques de lutte contre le réchauffement climatique. D’autres lanceurs d’alertes dénoncent, outre les États, les secteurs économiques et financiers comme premiers responsables.Toutes ces actions témoignent d’une prise de conscience, au sein de la société, de l’importance du climat, et du souhait que les acteurs institutionnels et économiques passent « de la parole aux actes ».Mais la réussite souhaitée dans la lutte contre le changement climatique n’est-elle pas « l’affaire de tous » ? Revenons ici sur les marges de manœuvre et les difficultés à surmonter par chaque type d’acteur pour que soient tenus les objectifs de la transition énergie-climat
Extreme Heat and Stock Market Activity
No full textInternational audienceWe aim to advance our understanding of the adverse effects of extreme temperatures by examining the extent to which high temperatures affect stock market activity. We address this question by analyzing the trading volumes on the French stock market on days when the weather in Paris is excessively hot over the period 1995-2019. Our empirical analyses show that, on average, trading volumes fall significantly (between 4 percent and 10 percent) when maximum daily temperatures exceed 30°C (86°F). The observed negative association is remarkably robust to a battery of alternative analyses such as bin tests, event studies, and time-series regressions controlling for any seasonal effects and financial market conditions. From a theoretical perspective, this study contributes to the literature on behavioral finance by demonstrating the existence of a "hot weather" effect on financial markets. It also offers important managerial and public policy implications

Accounting polycentricity in Africa: Framing an ‘accounting and development’ research agenda: .
No full textInternational audienceThis paper reviews the accounting literature on Africa development using the notion of polycentricity. The revived debates on accounting in developing countries indicate the need to link accounting and development, which implies that the accounting literature neglects the elements to do so. We question this starting from two points of reasoning. First, the exclusion of scholarly contributions from less developed countries in the international academic debates has been widely acknowledged. Second, over recent years, numerous contributions on organizational and accounting issues have appeared, but are too fragmented to constitute a coherent academic and intellectual corpus. Our review draws on 171 papers on accounting research on Africa in 33 accounting journals over the past four decades, utilizing an accounting and development research framework of polycentricity, which has two major features: actors intervening at three analytical levels (constitutive, collective, and operational) and their actions, to identify areas that may sustain the growing momentum of accounting and development research

Towards Normative Theories of Social Entrepreneurship. A Review of the Top Publications of the Field
No full textInternational audienceIn this article, we apply deductive content analysis to the 100 most influential publications in the field of social entrepreneur -ship (SE) to identify the normative assumptions in SE scholarship. Using eight contemporary schools of thought in political philosophy as a template for analysis, we identify the philosophies underlying SE literature and the important consequences of their (often ignored) normative stances, such as: ambiguous concepts, justifications and critiques, and normative contra -dictions. Our study contributes to the SE literature by proposing that political philosophy can help to identify what counts as the ‘social’ in SE. We are showing some of the field’s inherent normative tensions that could dampen its impact, and propose ways in which a normative awareness would help to establish a basis upon which to evaluate and demonstrate the social, economic, and cultural impact of SE
