Bài viết tập trung phân tích, làm rõ quá trình tổ chức và thực hiện chương trình bình định của Mỹ và chính quyền Sài Gòn ở Long An qua hai giai đoạn, tương ứng với chương trình bình định trọng điểm và “cuộc chiến tranh khác” ở miền Nam Việt Nam; đánh giá kết quả của các kế hoạch bình định đó.Inheriting and expanding the war of aggression in Vietnam, the US government under President Lyndon B. Johnson (November 1963 - January 1969) applied many pacification measures and tactics throughout the localities of South Vietnam, including Long An. Here, pacification plans/projects were concretized by the US Mission and the Saigon central government with special priority in terms of both resources and implementation organization to win the “hearts and minds” of the people as well as to prevent and destroy the revolutionary movement at the grassroots level. Long An became a “model province” in the pacification program of the US and the Saigon government in South Vietnam (November 1963 - January 1969). The article focuses on analyzing the organization and implementation of the pacification program of the US and the Saigon government in Long An through two stages, corresponding to the key pacification program and the “other war” in South Vietnam; evaluating the results of those pacification plans

Drawing on ecological systems theory, this phenomenological study examines how contextual factors impact the well-being of EFL teachers at five private English language centers in the Mekong Delta region. Data were collected through narrative frames and semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that the teacher well-being is complex and dynamic, shaped by multiple factors. Social and cultural factors (e.g., expectations from parents), organizational factors (e.g., workplace culture, institutional policies, and facilities), occupational factors (e.g., professional qualifications and teaching experiences), and personal factors (e.g., physical health and passion for the profession) all play significant roles. This research addresses a gap in the literature on the teacher well-being of teachers in Vietnam\u27s private English language teaching (ELT) sector and offers valuable applicable to similar educational contexts worldwide

This study investigates the use of Item Response Theory (IRT) to evaluate and validate the items in the reading section of a mock Vietnamese Standardized Test of English Proficiency (VSTEP) level 3-5 according to the Vietnamese version of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The primary focus is to evaluate how well the test items align with the abilities of test-takers, comparing the question difficulty as designed (R-level) with the estimated difficulty generated through IRT analysis. Data were collected from responses of 100 test-takers to the Reading section of the mock VSTEP Level 3-5. By applying IRT, the study offers a detailed analysis of item characteristics, including item difficulty and discrimination parameters, which are crucial for validating whether the test accurately reflects the proficiency levels it is intended to measure. The results provide insights into the validity and reliability of the test items, highlighting potential discrepancies between the original design of question difficulty and the actual performance data. This analysis contributes to the overall improvement of the test, ensuring that it better serves as an accurate tool for assessing language proficiency at the specified levels. The findings also offer valuable implications for future test development and refinement in similar contexts. Get PDF
Peer feedback is becoming an increasingly valuable part of EFL writing classes, especially as Vietnamese schools shift toward more student-centred approaches, since it encourages active participation, fosters learner autonomy, and helps students develop critical thinking skills. Although much has been studied in higher education settings, there is less understanding of how younger students respond to this method. This study explored the perspectives of high school students in Hanoi by analyzing both their written feedback and reflections during interviews. A qualitative method was employed, utilising semi-structured interviews and analysis of written peer feedback from eight high school students. The research found that students generally had positive views of peer feedback, noting several benefits, such as improved writing abilities, critical thinking skills, and increased confidence. Additionally, the paper highlights several challenges, including the dependability and quality of feedback.Peer feedback is becoming an increasingly valuable part of EFL writing classes, especially as Vietnamese schools shift toward more student-centred approaches, since it encourages active participation, fosters learner autonomy, and helps students develop critical thinking skills. Longan is one of the fruits with a high economic value in Vietnam and is grown in both Northern and Southern provinces. However, the quality of longan fruits deteriorates quickly after harvest. The study aimed to combine ultrasound (US) treatment with a sodium hydrogen sulfite (SHS) solution as the wave transmission medium to reduce color changes and maintain the quality of longan fruit during storage at 25℃. Longan fruit was treated with US at a frequency of 192 kHz combined with SHS solutions at concentrations of 0.25% and 0.5% (w/v) for 1.5, 2.5, and 5.0 minutes. The results showed that the 0.5% SHS + US 1.5 min treatment effectively delayed color change of longan peel and reduced weight loss of the fruit, but did not affect the edible quality, including total titratable acidity and soluble solid content (oBrix), while maintaining vitamin C, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity of longan fruit, compared to the control during 8 days of storage at 25℃. These results suggest that ultrasound treatment combined with sodium hydrogen sulfite can be potentially used for the preservation of longan fruit.Longan is one of the fruits with a high economic value in Vietnam and is grown in both Northern and Southern provinces. Get PDF
Child labor is a pervasive social issue that affects every continent and nearly every country. Addressing this issue requires active involvement and close collaboration across all levels, sectors, and components of society, including schools. Schools have organized child labor prevention activities for students; however, the integration of social work methods, particularly group social work approaches, remains limited. By applying group social work methods, social workers can create a supportive group environment where students are encouraged to enhance their skills, foster interaction, and complete both individual and collective tasks through structured group activities. Drawing from the synthesis, analysis, and evaluation of related studies, this article explores the application of group social work processes to raise awareness and develop child labor prevention skills among secondary school students. Through these methods, students can proactively build their prevention capacity while still in school, empowering them to address this critical issue effectively.Child labor is a pervasive social issue that affects every continent and nearly every country. The famous American writer Shirley Jackson has a modest number of works, but her ideological influence is very wide. With her unique minimalist psychological writing style, her short stories create many gaps and layers of meaning. Readers are encouraged to participate in co-creation, which has given Jackson\u27s stories the advantage of being easily adaptable to readers over time. The art of exploiting the sinful corners of the human soul is also a strength of Jackson\u27s stories. That has created temporary reactions from readers who are used to stories praising morality, but later they were recognized as unique pieces of literature about bad customs that hinder human freedom and happiness
