THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL PARTICIPATION ON MENTAL HEALTH AMONG OLDER ADULTS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN URBAN AND SUBURBAN AREAS IN HO CHI MINH CITY
In Vietnam, traditional family and community culture has enabled older adults to maintain certain forms of social participation, such as living in multigenerational households, attending elderly association meetings at the ward level, and participating in religious or village festivals. However, urbanization and modern lifestyles risk narrowing these avenues for social engagement, particularly in urban settings where busy lifestyles and weakened neighborhood ties prevail. Research on social participation and mental health among older adults in Vietnam remains relatively sparse, especially studies comparing urban and suburban contexts. This study examines the impact of social participation on mental health among older adults, with a comparative focus between those residing in urban areas (District 5) and suburban areas (Hoc Mon District) of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The analysis revealed that older adults living in urban areas reported significantly higher levels of social participation compared to those their suburban counterparts. Similarly, the urban older adults reported greater satisfaction with their mental health than suburban older adults. Social participation demonstrated a moderate positive correlation with mental health and was identified as a statistically significant positive predictor of mental health. These findings highlight social participation as a crucial protective factor in enhancing the mental well-being of older adults. In Vietnam, traditional family and community culture has enabled older adults to maintain certain forms of social participation, such as living in multigenerational households, attending elderly association meetings at the ward level, and participating in religious or village festivals. A COMPOSITE INDEX-BASED ASSESSMENT OF ECONOMIC GROWTH QUALITY IN DA NANG CITY DURING THE PERIOD 2015–2023
Amid growing emphasis on sustainable development, evaluating the quality of economic growth has become a vital priority for local governments. This study proposes a multi-dimensional evaluation framework and a composite index to assess the quality of economic growth in Da Nang City from 2015 to 2023. The study applies 29 indicators grouped into four key dimensions - economic efficiency, social welfare, environment and security, and governance capacity - and employs the FPPSI method (Full Permutation Polygon Synthetic Indicator) to normalize indicators and construct the composite index. The findings reveal that the quality of Da Nang’s economic growth remains moderate, with the composite index ranging from 0.43 to 0.45 during the period 2015-2023. Among the dimensions, social welfare exhibited the most notable improvement, reaching a good level in 2023 (0.71), followed by environment and security (0.55). In contrast, economic efficiency recorded the weakest performance, with a steep decline during the COVID-19 period (0.10 in 2021) and only a partial recovery by 2023 (0.24). Governance capacity showed minimal fluctuation, staying consistently below the good threshold (0.31). These findings highlight the need for Da Nang to enhance economic efficiency, environmental protection, and strengthen governance systems to improve the quality of its economic growth toward long-term sustainability.Amid growing emphasis on sustainable development, evaluating the quality of economic growth has become a vital priority for local governments. YAN LIANKE’S DREAM OF DING VILLAGE: A CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE
The study of literature from a cultural perspective is an early yet enduring research orientation that continues to attract scholarly attention. As the cradle of the Yellow River civilization, China has long been regarded as one of the birthplaces of world culture. Exploring Chinese literature allows readers not only to perceive the philosophical and humanistic ideas conveyed by writers but also to gain deeper insight into the nation’s rich and ancient cultural values. In particular, in the case of Yan Lianke, a leading figure in contemporary Chinese literature, the integration between traditional Chinese culture and literature has become the hallmark of his artistic identity. Among his major works, Dream of Ding Village stands out as one of the most representative examples of this cultural-literary integration. The study of literature from a cultural perspective is an early yet enduring research orientation that continues to attract scholarly attention. THE INSTITUTIONAL DEFICIT IN WATER GOVERNANCE OF THE MEKONG RIVER AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR VIETNAM
This paper examines the institutional deficiencies in water governance across the Mekong River Basin and their profound impacts on Vietnam, the lowest downstream country and one of the most vulnerable to hydrological changes. By synthesizing secondary sources and comparing four key regional cooperation mechanisms (MRC, GMS, LMC, and LMI), the study reveals that the existing institutional network in the Mekong Basin remains fragmented, legally non-binding, and lacks effective coordination. These weaknesses have resulted in asymmetrical power relations, uneven benefit-sharing, and increased ecological and social vulnerability in downstream areas, particularly the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. By interdisciplinary research methods, historical methods, policy analysis methods, etc, the paper explores Vietnam’s multi-level responses, including regional water diplomacy, bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and domestic adaptation policies. It argues that the root cause of the current crisis lies not only in the upstream states’ exploitation but also in the structural insufficiency of basin-wide governance mechanisms. Strengthening institutional capacity and establishing a transparent, equitable, and sustainable framework for transboundary water management are therefore essential to ensure the long-term resilience of the Mekong Basin. This paper examines the institutional deficiencies in water governance across the Mekong River Basin and their profound impacts on Vietnam, the lowest downstream country and one of the most vulnerable to hydrological changes. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND SELF-REGULATED LEARNING: PERSPECTIVES FROM GRADUATE STUDENTS IN ACADEMIC RESEARCH
Nghiên cứu này điều tra mối quan hệ giữa việc sử dụng trí tuệ nhân tạo (AI) và học tập tự điều chỉnh (Self-Regulated Learning - SRL) của học viên cao học trong nghiên cứu học thuật. Sử dụng phương pháp nghiên cứu định tính, dữ liệu được thu thập thông qua các buổi thảo luận nhóm với 12 học viên cao học tại một trường Đại học ở miền Trung Việt Nam. Phân tích chủ đề được áp dụng để khám phá cách AI hỗ trợ hoặc cản trở quá trình học tập tự điều chỉnh trong ba giai đoạn: Dự báo, Thực hiện và Tự phản ánh. Kết quả cho thấy AI giúp học viên đặt mục tiêu, lập kế hoạch nghiên cứu và tạo động lực trong giai đoạn khởi đầu. Trong giai đoạn thực hiện, AI hỗ trợ cải thiện cấu trúc bài viết học thuật và tổ chức nội dung, tuy nhiên nhiều học viên gặp khó khăn trong việc cân bằng giữa việc sử dụng AI và tư duy phản biện độc lập. Ở giai đoạn tự phản ánh, AI giúp học viên đánh giá kết quả nghiên cứu nhưng một số học viên vẫn gặp khó khăn trong việc điều chỉnh chiến lược sử dụng AI một cách hiệu quả. Nghiên cứu nhấn mạnh sự cần thiết của các hướng dẫn cụ thể nhằm giúp học viên tối ưu hóa việc sử dụng AI đồng thời phát triển tư duy độc lập và chiến lược học tập tự điều chỉnh hiệu quả trong nghiên cứu học thuật.This study investigates the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) use and self-regulated learning (SRL) among graduate students in academic research. Using qualitative methods, data were collected through focus group discussions with 12 master\u27s students from a university in Central Vietnam. Thematic analysis was employed to explore how AI supports or hinders SRL across three phases: forethought, performance, and self-reflection. Findings indicate that AI enhances students\u27 goal-setting, planning, and motivation in the early stages of research. During the performance phase, AI aids in improving academic writing structure and content organization, yet students struggled to balance AI use with independent critical thinking. In the self-reflection phase, AI assisted students in evaluating research outcomes, but some faced difficulties in adjusting their AI strategies effectively. The study highlights the need for clear guidance to help students optimize AI use while fostering independent thinking and effective SRL strategies in academic research
APPLICATION OF MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTS IN FAMILY VALUES EDUCATION FOR ETHNIC MINORITY YOUTH IN GIA LAI PROVINCE AT PRESENT
The education of family values for ethnic minority youth is a community education content with the main subject being the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, implementing the “Vietnam Family Development Strategy by 2030” set by the Prime Minister. Gia Lai, a mountainous province in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, has 53% of its youth belonging to ethnic minorities, who carry unique family cultural traits. Issues such as child marriage, domestic violence, demands during marriage, and many other negative phenomena still persist. According to the Government\u27s Report by the end of 2024, Gia Lai province had 392 child marriage couples (of which nearly 97% were ethnic minorities), 02 incestuous marriage couples, and 08 cases of domestic violence. Therefore, using the method of analyzing and summarizing experience and the questionnaire survey method, the authors analyzed the current situation, as a basis for proposing measures to select, design, organize and implement the application of multimedia products in family values education in the research area. Through these measures, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union at all levels can better implement family values education for ethnic minority youth. As a result, it helps ethnic minority youth enhance their awareness of the beautiful values of Vietnamese families and form habits and moral standards in family interactions. At the same time, it helps ethnic minority youth become responsible for building and developing Vietnamese family values in the new context. The education of family values for ethnic minority youth is a community education content with the main subject being the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, implementing the “Vietnam Family Development Strategy by 2030” set by the Prime Minister.
