A Comparative Study of the Conception of the Wolf and the Hare in Spanish and Polish
Get PDFThe study is focused on cognitive linguistics, i.e., the conceptualization of reality. We present the position of the wolf and the hare in the linguistic conception of the world of the Spaniards and the Poles. We showcase the connotations associated with the animals, in which context they are used, and what we express by using them based on the examples sourced from phraseology and paremiology. Moreover, it is interesting to note that animalistic vocabulary is used to describe human beings as well as our traits and behaviours; in consequence, we examine the relationship between humankind and the aforementioned animals.
Contact, Context, Comparison: M. Blecher and World Literature
Get PDFThe paper starts by acknowledging the recent international success of the Romanian writer Max Blecher (1909–1938), following translations of his work into thirteen languages. The international quality of his work is charted in three ways. Żirstly, by emphasizing Blecher’s cosmopolitan biography, which allowed him to establish contacts with influential artists of his time in France, Switzerland, and Romania. Also, from the beginning Blecher’s work has an international dimension through translations and internationally-minded prose. Secondly, I discuss one factor that emerged in the 2000s to illuminate Blecher’s ascent to international attention. I am referring to contexts favourable to his reception, such as the world fame of Romanian avantgarde authors, the heritage of Jewish culture in Europe and the recuperation of an East-Central European cultural space. Thirdly, I am review the names proposed for literary comparison, especially by Romanian critics who have written about Blecher, analyzing their pertinence and subtext. Żrom Żranz Kafka and André Breton to Bruno Schulz and Jonathan Safran Foer, international authors were called on to provide Blecher’s work with a flattering companion from abroad or to accommodate one interpretative context or another.

Get PDFThe aim of this paper is to examine the role of franglais from a lexicographic perspective. I will analyse and comment on the lexicographic choices made in the revised versions of two monolingual dictionaries (Le Petit Robert and Le Petit Larousse) through a corpus of anglicisms taken from French newspapers. This will help investigate the relationship between norms and usage in the light of French prescriptive language policies.
The Presence of Italian, Spanish and French Theatre in the Kingdom of Hungary
No full textIn this study, we examine how the influence of the neo-Roman world made its way in the field of music and theatre life in Central Europe over the centuries. The three chosen moments (sixteenth-century Renaissance music and theatre for the Italian influence, seventeenthcentury school dramas for the Spanish influence, and eighteenthcentury court theatre for the French influence) are arbitrary ones, but as a whole they may represent the ways of evolution of the history of theatre in the Kingdom of Hungary.

No full textThe purpose of this article is to provide a succinct presentation of some references to Spain through selected manuscripts and old prints from the Princes Czartoryski Library Collection in Cracow. In addition, we outline briefly the collecting activity of the Czartoryski family, especially in the case of Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski (1734–1823), his wife Izabela (1746–1835) and their grandson Władysław (1828–1894). We also mention the most important facts from the Princes Czartoryski Museum and Library history and some aspects of the historical and cultural relations between Poland and Spain in the nineteenth century.

This happened because his popularization under Soviet influence was prohibited due to the fact that his conveyed messages jeopardized socialist regimes. Scuppie, huppie, guppie and Other New Human Tribes and Their Circulation in French and Czech
Get PDFThe aim of this paper is to measure the circulation and frequency of neologisms in French and Czech linked to new species of man such as scuppies, huppies, guppies and muppies. The comparative approach draws on the “EmpNéo” (Neological Loanword) international project which aims to compare the diffusion of neological borrowings in various languages. Through our communication, we allow ourselves to approach a part of the project and exploit the lexemes in question.
