Introduction: While co-creation has emerged as a promising approach to address complex problems in health and care systems, few examples exist where scholars have examined what separate stakeholder groups do to enhance their potential to engage in collaborative processes of joint problem-solving. The current study seeks to bridge this knowledge gap by providing empirical insights into the challenges of one stakeholder enacting ‘pre-creation’ to reform care services for older adults in the rural Swedish north through the Storuman Cares 2050 initiative.
Methods: This case study draws upon data collected through extensive notetaking of 23 core group meetings within Storuman Cares 2050. The notes were summarized into a database, which also included reflections on how previous experiences with other projects should inform progress as well as deliberations on engagement with co-creation partners. The data was thematically analyzed with themes developed through an inductive approach.
Results: Three themes were developed. The first one, ‘getting our house in order’, makes explicit the values, principles, and approaches that a stakeholder might bring to a co-creation process. The second theme, ‘starting close to home’, describes the value of supporting and stimulating internal engagements through demonstrating a commitment and capacity for change. The third theme, ‘reaching out’, details the importance of, but challenges to, engaging with external stakeholders.
Conclusion: This case study bridges an important knowledge gap by detailing how one stakeholder navigated past experiences and the history of relationships with diverse stakeholders while trying to support internal engagements and other local voices when aspiring to co-create. By introducing the concept of ‘pre-creation’ as encompassing the enhancement of an organization’s potential to engage in complex processes of joint problem-solving, the findings provide a stimulus for scholars to further explore what separate stakeholder groups do to enable them to co-create.

Language Shift as a Way of Acquiring New Citizenship and a Profession: The Educational Background of the First Female Students at the Jyväskylä Teachers Seminary
This article sheds light on gendered aspects of the early years of the Finnish teacher training system. It focuses on the first generation of female students at the Jyväskylä Teachers Seminary in central Finland, their educational background, and their language competences. My main sources are the students’ applications to the seminary, which I explore with the help of the collective biographical method. The Jyväskylä Teachers Seminary, the first Finnish-language teacher training college for elementary school teachers in Finland, was established in central Finland in 1863, partly in response to the increasing significance of the Finnish language to the nation. For the girls who entered the seminary, their preparatory private education and the language shift they experienced there from Swedish to Finnish were significant factors both in their training as teachers and in the opportunity to gain a public profession of their own, as well as a new kind of female citizenship. Most of these women had graduated from private schools or had only private tutoring at home

Smart Grid in the Arctic City: Historical, Technological, and Social Aspects of Evolution
This article presents the evolution of a smart grid in an artic city, and we analyze its development using the Smart Grid Reference Architecture (SGAM) and from historical, technological, and social points of view in an Arctic context. We illustrate the emergence of smart grid application and its relation to energy consumption habits and sustainability. The study includes observations from empirical research conducted using a mixed methods approach. This included two months of organizational ethnographies consisting of interviews with specialists at an electricity utility, shadowing the workers, participant observation in the control center, and a questionnaire survey among local residents. Three stages of transformation in the electricity network were observed: 1) the conversion from analog to digital in network operations, with residents as passive receivers of electricity; 2) introducing digital communications and a digital local area network that allowed residents to report consumption; 3) the electrical network as an evolving smart grid with a digital platform enabling two-ways communication among network actors. People became more active when smart grid applications were introduced in the electricity network and middle-aged men can now better manage their energy consumption, even though their motivation is financial, rather than environmental. At the same time, unplugging from the smart grid becomes increasingly difficult
Santiago Santi is an indigenous man from the Naporuna ethnic group in the Amazon region of Ecuador. He has been a volunteer Community Health Worker (CHW) for 30 years in his community of El Edén, Orellana Province, Ecuador. He has published his memoirs in a book entitled 'Sé de donde vengo, no sé a dónde voy' (I know where I come from, I don't know where I'm going). He is one of the founders of the 'Asociación de promotores de salud Naporunas Sandi Yura', which currently includes 120 indigenous community health workers from 58 communities in the provinces of Orellana and Sucumbíos. The association is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and is the largest movement of CHWs in the country. Santiago reflects on his reasons for being a community health worker, the values that CHWs should have, the history of Sandi Yura, and where the organisation should focus in the future.
Introduction: Globally, studies show that young prisoners experience higher rates of mental health disorders and suicidal behaviors than adult prisoners and the general population. In Cambodia, there is a lack of information on the mental health situation of young prisoners and the response of the prison system to that reality. This thesis aimed to explore the mental health, well-being, and healthcare needs of young Cambodian prisoners by examining their mental health status, evaluating life skills interventions, identifying coping mechanisms, and proposing strategies to strengthen the prison health system based on insider perspectives.
Methods: Conducted in four selected prisons, the thesis used both quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative studies assessed mental health and evaluated the impact of a Life Skills Education (LSE) intervention. The qualitative approach explored the perspectives of young prisoners and staff regarding mental health, coping mechanisms, and prison healthcare challenges.
Results: The findings revealed high levels of mental health problems but low suicidal behaviors. Younger age, lower education, and drug use were linked to higher ill-mental health. While the LSE intervention improved mental health, the differences with the control group were not statistically significant. Qualitative insights revealed loneliness, lack of family support, and unmet basic needs as young prisoners´ concerns. Staff noted the limited healthcare services available and stressed the need for reforms, including mental health awareness, staff training, and governance improvements.
Conclusion: The thesis highlights high levels of mental health problems among young prisoners in Cambodia and calls for contextualized mental health interventions. Future efforts should focus on strengthening mental health services, staff training, and prison reforms to better support young prisoners' well-being.
