Art and Design practices for holistic sustainability: The Insular Snow Project
No full textTaking the Insular Snow project as a case study, I intend to show how collaborative art and design practices can contribute to social creativity and sustainability by running counter to the innovation/tradition dichotomy. A product of the Western historical narrative, the tradition/innovation dichotomy equates Western modernity as the universal telos and, concomitantly, everything that resists its conversion—the different knowledges or cultures—as “non-modern,” and “traditional.” Within this narrative, the “modern” is conceived as the acceleration of change and the advancement in time through it, and the “traditional” as the static, or fixed in time. In this context, the tradition/innovation dichotomy fosters an atomistic view of the individual context, separate from nature and the cultural context, contributing to the naturalization of social differences and an anthropocentric view of the world, and thus being at the heart of the exploitation of people and nature. I argue that change and innovation do not necessarily imply the overcoming of the traditional by the modern. Rather, they can be seen as part of a continuous flow that feeds into the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, forming a political process of reinterpretation and creation of historical meaning
Predictive analytics for customer behavior
No full textPredictive analytics have become indispensable tools for implementing data-driven strategies and decisions. These innovations are used to predict future activities, thereby enabling businesses to plan accordingly. The main purpose of this study is, through a systematic bibliometric literature review, to understand how businesses apply predictive models to predicting consumer behavior. The review includes 74 articles published in the Scopus® database, presenting up-to-date knowledge on the topic. The bibliographic search included peer-reviewed articles published up to 2024. The research findings identified three major ways predictive analytics helps forecast customer behavior. These include predicting their purchasing patterns, churn, and engagement. While predictive analytics for customer behavior offers significant advantages, it also poses challenges related to data privacy, ethical considerations, and the need for sophisticated analytics skills
Emotive acoustics: Sound Design in robotic emotion expression. A study on participant generated sounds
No full textHuman-robot interactions (HRI) can be made much more immersive by using sounds. Regarding this, a study was carried out to explore different types of sounds that may be more suitable for HRI. Participants were presented with a video in which a social robot navigates in a context and expresses six basic emotions in specific situations. The participants generated sounds for each emotion displayed by the robot in the video. Results revealed a preference for human-like sounds, especially onomatopoeia. Moreover, most participants deemed the sounds produced by current robots in general as inappropriate and lacking empathy, primarily due to their resemblance with machine-like noises. The study provides specific insights into the perception of audio expressions, which are helpful in creating inclusive and emotionally compelling HRI. The results highlight how crucial it is to give social robots more human-like auditory features

eletrónica na Web of Science, Scopus e IEEE Xplore e 16 estudos foram incluídos
na revisão após o processo de seleção. Os estudos propuseram recomendações
curriculares, cursos de ciber-resiliência, e plataformas de aprendizagem e de
simulação para exercícios práticos. A investigação sobre o tema ainda é escassa
e fragmentada e falta um entendimento comum sobre estratégias, conteúdos,
competências, resultados de aprendizagem, e exercícios de programas de formação
em ciber-resiliência, bem como sobre indicadores adequados para avaliar a eficácia
destes programas
Achieving privacy through UX design in instant messaging Apps
No full textProtecting and enhancing informational privacy is crucial in user-to-user interactions, particularly through instant messaging apps. Careless and malicious handling of personal information can harm users’ well-being and dignity. However, there is a need for a better understanding of the relationship between informational privacy and UX design in both design practice and academic research. This paper aims to bridge this gap and explain how privacy can be achieved through meaningful UX design. The research presented in this paper focuses on Confide, an instant messaging app promoted as the ‘Confidential Messenger’. In a lab test involving the app’s actual usage, we first subjected it to a privacy assessment. Then, we analyzed Confide’s UX through a heuristic assessment followed by an authors’ UX report. The research revealed that users’ freedom to manage their privacy settings leads to a meaningful UX. The methodology proposed in this paper is appropriate for investigating how designed products combine informational privacy and good UX design due to its replicability and scalability
The public debt as handicap to economic growth

In this context, it becomes extremely important to understand the impact that the increase in public debt has on the growth of economies. Thus, the purpose of this research paper is to assess the effect that debt may have on the economic growth of countries. We analyse the relation in three countries: Estonia, Greece and Portugal. Our findings suggest that the public debt of these countries do not directly affect the growth
Reinterpreting traditions: The NEVE INSULAR project and creativity in the cultural fabric of Cape Verde
No full textEste estudo explora o projeto NEVE INSULAR como um caso de estudo para entender como as práticas relacionais de arte e design podem fomentar a criatividade social e a sustentabilidade. O projeto desafia a dicotomia tradicional entre inovação e tradição, a qual, historicamente, tem promovido uma visão atomista do indivíduo e contribuído para a exploração da natureza e das culturas. O projeto NEVE INSULAR é analisa-do no contexto da narrativa histórica ocidental, onde a modernidade é muitas vezes vista como um avanço linear em detrimento das tradições. Esta pesquisa argumenta que mudança e inova-ção não implicam necessariamente a superação do tradicional pelo moderno, mas que ambos podem coexistir e enriquecer o património cul-tural material e imaterial. A abordagem adotada envolveu uma análise qualitativa detalhada do projeto NEVE INSULAR, considerando suas práticas, estratégias e a interação entre os par-ticipantes. Foram examinados também projetos similares e literatura relevante para comparar e contrastar as abordagens e impactos no campo da arte e design colaborativos.O estudo revelou que o projeto NEVE INSU-LAR contribui significativamente para a susten-tabilidade e criatividade social, oferecendo uma alternativa à visão tradicional de modernidade. Ele demonstra como a arte e o design podem ser utilizados para criar um diálogo enriquecedor entre o moderno e o tradicional, promovendo a sustentabilidade cultural, social e ambiental
