The future end of design work: A critical overview of managerialism, generative AI, and the nature of knowledge work, and why craft remains relevant
This article examines the transformation of design work under the influence of managerialism and the rise of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). Drawing on John Maynard Keynes's projections of technological unemployment and the evolving nature of work, it argues that despite advancements in automation, work has not diminished but rather devalued. Design, understood as a type of knowledge work, faces an apparent existential crisis. GenAI grows adept at mimicking the output of creative processes. The article explores how the fear of the end of design work fueled by the rise of GenAI is rooted in a misunderstanding of design work. This misunderstanding is driven by managerialism—an ideology that prioritizes efficiency and quantifiable outcomes over the intrinsic value of work. Managerialism seeks to instrumentalize and automate design, turning it into a controllable procedure to generate quantifiable creative outputs. The article argues why design work cannot be turned into a procedure and automated using GenAI. Advocates of these systems claim they enhance productivity and open new opportunities. However, evidence so far shows that flawed GenAI models produce disappointing outcomes while operating at a significant environmental cost. The article concludes by arguing for a robust theory of design—one that acknowledges the unique ontological and epistemic boundaries of design work and underscores why design cannot be reduced to a procedural output

Dependency management in iOS development: A developer survey perspective
Rising complexity in iOS development necessitates robust dependency management tools, facilitating efficient integration of third-party and open-source libraries. This study explores current trends amongst iOS developers, focusing on their preferred tools, challenges encountered, and potential shifts in tool usage. A survey revealed Swift Package Manager (SPM) as the dominant choice (70.5%), valued for its user-friendliness and official support. However, performance concerns persist. CocoaPods usage declines (26.8%), prompting further investigation. Notably, 20.54% of developers have switched tools, highlighting potential dissatisfaction and a search for improved solutions. This study underscores the need for deeper analysis of developer preferences, tool-specific challenges, and the evolving dependency management landscape, paving the way for future tool development and best practices tailored to developer needs
Integrating virtual reality in cognitive training of older adults without cognitive impairment: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials
This article aimed to analyse state-of-the-art empirical evidence of randomized controlled trials designed to assess preventive cognitive training interventions based on virtual reality for older adults without cognitive impairment, by identifying virtual reality setups and tasks, clinical outcomes and respective measurement instruments, and positive effects on outcome parameters. A systematic electronic search was performed, and six randomized controlled trials were included in the systematic review. In terms of results, the included studies pointed to significant positive impact of virtual reality-based cognitive training interventions on global cognition, memory, attention, information processing speed, walking variability, balance, muscle strength, and falls. However, further research is required to evaluate the adequacy of the virtual reality setups and tasks, to study the impact of the interventions’ duration and intensity, to understand how to tailor the interventions to the characteristics and needs of the individuals, and to compare face-to-face to remote interventions
Sustainable entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility: Analysing the state of research
At a basic level, entrepreneurship refers to an individual or a small group of partners that intend to create a new business. Entrepreneurship is at the forefront of any competitive economy due to the creation of new products and services. In other words, entrepreneurship is associated with economic wealth, growth, and innovation. The usage of resources in the creation of new businesses needs to be rational because investors normally are risk averse, and the usage of resources must take into account the possible damage to the planet. In other words, entrepreneurs and the sustainability of the planet are interconnected. Beyond this, entrepreneurs need to take care of the corporate social responsibility of each new business, considering the interests of all stakeholders. Nevertheless, existing research has not shown in full all the research streams, how they interact with each other and their potential knowledge development. The methodological approach is based on a literature review using Scopus® databases under the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis). This paper aims to identify research trends in the field through a Systematic Bibliometric Literature Review of social entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility research, with a literature review based on SCOPUS, the world’s most important peer-reviewed database in the academic world, and using the PRISMA protocol, which contributes to an increased knowledge on the subject. The review includes 69 articles published
in the Scopus® database, presenting up-to-date knowledge on the topic
Marketing & business perspectives: Fostering AI as a tool for wellbeing
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into marketing and business practices offers a transformative opportunity to enhance wellbeing across various sectors. By leveraging AI tools, businesses can analyze consumer behavior and preferences more efficiently, enabling personalized marketing strategies that resonate with customers on a deeper level (Kumar et al., 2024). The use of AI tools also allows businesses to tailor their offerings in a way that fosters positive connections and enhances customer experience (Babatunde et al., 2024). Additionally, AI's ability to process vast amounts of data lets organizations optimize their operations, making informed decisions that can lead to improved employee engagement and satisfaction (Krishna & Sidharth, 2023)
Determinants of brand love in wine tourism
Wine tourism provides a multisensory experience through various wine tourism activities. It also adds value to the regions and their producers by enhancing the wine knowledge and sensory experience of the visitors. This study explores the determinants of brand love in wine tourism. Using survey data from wine tourists in Portugal, a structural equation modelling was performed to test the conceptual model. An Importance-performance matrix analysis was also used to obtain additional insights. The results show that the wine tourism enhances brand love. This implies that emotions (i.e., a sense of belonging) towards the overall location is associated with the satisfaction and the quality perception that the winery exhibits. Furthermore, although the consumer’s active participation in wine tourism does not impact brand love directly, its influences occur through the mediating effect of the relation quality. From an interdisciplinary managerial perspective, the present study provides insights into tourism management (i.e., wine tourism) and marketing (i.e., brand management and consumer behaviour)
Adaptation of the revised environmental identity scale to adult portuguese native speakers: A validity and reliability study
Environmental identity is a dimension of personal identity that reflects an individual’s sense of connection with nature and personal view of nature as part of her/his identity. There is a need to adapt and validate measures that assess environmental identity, namely in Portuguese. This study analyzed the validity and reliability of the Revised Environmental Identity Scale (Revised EID) in a sample of native speakers of Portuguese from 18 to 83 years old. The survey included the Portuguese translation of the Revised EID, measures of eco-anxiety, adult attachment, affective neurobiological systems, psychological symptoms, and sociodemographic information. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to assess the construct validity of the scale. It was tied to a two-factor solution (Connectedness with Nature and Protection of Nature) found in prior research. The Revised EID was positively related to feelings of anxiety about personal impact on climate change and positive emotional systems (SEEKING, CARE, and PLAY). Older participants reported higher levels in the overall environmental identity score and the Protection of Nature factor. The results indicate that the Revised EID is an appropriate measure to assess environmental identity in adult Portuguese native speakers and should be used to conduct cross-cultural studies to drive environmental and health policies
The rise of premium private label brands in grocery retailing: Qualitative insights from young German consumers
In the retailing world, private label brands (PLBs) are gaining growing attention. Own brands bring numerous advantages from the perspective of the grocery retailer, as well as from the consumer side. More specifically, premium PLBs are currently rising stars among various types of private labels. Existing literature on the topic focuses mainly on the overall role of PLBs while not distinguishing between their different types. However, for retailers to benefit most from the premium PLBs, it is vital to understand how consumers perceive the premium type within the category of PLBs in general. By conducting 14 in-depth semi-structured interviews with young German consumers, our research seeks to explore their reasons to buy generic PLBs versus premium PLBs. Results show that premium PLBs are perceived differently from general PLBs and bought for contrary reasons. The findings shed light on the importance of differentiating between various types of PLBs. Overall, this study could help marketers to better understand how to successfully expand the assortment of premium PLBs and therefore to profit the most from the use of this particular type of PLBs
