Enhancing consumer purchase intentions for sustainable packaging products: An in-depth analysis of key determinants and strategic insights

    No full text
Environmental concerns drive corporate and consumer focus on sustainable packaging. Research explores key factors influencing consumer intent, emphasizing the importance of strategic integration for enhanced purchase intentions and environmental goals. A comprehensive literature review identifies factors such as perceived value, willingness to pay, environmental concern, and attitude toward sustainable packaging. Empirical validation using survey data demonstrates the statistical significance of these factors on consumer purchase intentions, with the willingness to pay to emerge as the most influential determinant. Stakeholders are urged to incorporate these findings into strategies for sustainable packaging, fostering positive environmental impact, and informing academic and managerial discussions

The determinants of non-consumption of disposable plastic: application of an extended theory of planned behaviour

    No full text
The main purpose of this study is to explore a framework to predict the non-consumption of disposable plastics behaviour, using the theory of planned behaviour and a further extension adding two new variables to the model: social media engagement and lifestyle values. The empirical research builds on a survey with a sample of 466 individuals using an online questionnaire. Data analysis followed a PLS-SEM approach, to test the group of hypotheses. The group of predictors of social media engagement, lifestyle values, attitude, perceived behaviour control, and intention explain 39,7% of the variance of the expected behaviour of no-use of disposable plastic, which is considered a high value in the consumer behaviour domain. Together, the results show that the theory of planned behaviour proved its applicability in explaining social behaviour and that social media engagement is a very relevant predictor of lifestyle

The impact of the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book: evaluation on a stylized portfolio

    No full text
We investigate the impact of the Basel Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) on banks’ market risk capital requirements under the internal models approach. To do this, we take a stylized portfolio sensitive to the risk factors affected by the FRTB, representative of a typical trading book. Our assessment spans the period 2007–19. We find that the FRTB will entail sizable increases in the regulatory capital intended to absorb market shocks. These increases originate not only from the change in the risk measure and taking longer liquidity horizons (the latter having a greater impact on portfolios more focused on bonds) but also from the strict limitation of portfolio diversification benefits. Our study should be of interest to bank supervisors and regulators, risk managers and other decision makers within the banking industry

Addressing cultural inertias for co-design: Exploring Chinese participants’ perceptions of design games

    No full text
Innovation-driven firms must adopt an open design strategy for competitiveness. Co-design games are recommended to foster an open, equal, and collaborative culture. However, most studies focus on the West. East-Asian countries, notably China, face unique challenges due to cultural disparities and inertia. This paper explores design games in the Chinese context through a case study with traditional workshops, revealing participants' perspectives and the potential impact on cultural inertia

Attachment mediates the impact of previous trauma on posttraumatic symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic

    No full text
Objective: There is some evidence that individuals previously been exposed to traumatic events may present higher vulnerability to PTSD because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Furthermore, exposure to traumatic events may cause changes in attachment orientations which might influence levels of PTSD symptoms (PTSS) in populations subjected to “stay-home” measures related to the COVID-19 outbreak. Method: The present study analyzed interrelations of number of traumatic events, attachment orientations, and PTSS during the COVID-19 in a group of Portuguese participants. The study comprised 2 time points: 3 days after the beginning of the lockdown (time 1) and 3 days before the end of the lockdown (time 2). Sample included 736 Portuguese participants who completed the questionnaires at both time points. Data were collected through a survey that included self-reported questionnaires. Structural equation modeling was conducted to examine if effect of number of traumatic events on PTSS at T2 was mediated attachment orientations at T1. Results: Higher exposure to traumatic events was associated with higher levels of PTSS. Attachment anxiety at T1 partially mediated the effect of number of traumatic events on PTS at T2. Conclusion: Findings suggest that PTSS is a risk induced by the establishment of a total lockdown and that individuals with higher exposure to traumatic events and higher attachment anxiety levels present increased risk of higher levels of PTSS at the end of the lockdown

Importance of competitive dynamics of strategic groups: Opportunities and challenges

    No full text
The competitive dynamics of strategic groups perform a major role in shaping the competitive background of industries. Strategic groups are sets of companies within an industry that follow related strategies or have comparable characteristics, such as product offerings, target markets, or geographic scale. Understanding these dynamics is central for firms to spot opportunities and cope with challenges effectively. This paper reviews the literature on the competitive dynamics of strategic groups. It analyses the theoretical underpinnings of competitive dynamics of strategic groups and discusses the central dimensions of the concept, underscoring the importance of competitive dynamics for strategic groups. Our aim is to sum up these perspectives while providing a clear and integrated overview through a systematic literature review. Such systematic literature review was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. PRISMA is a framework with evidence-based data designed to help authors carry out a systematic literature review. This systematic literature review sought to consolidate knowledge on this topic. A discussion on the theme is carried out, an ensuing conclusion came up and, finally, avenues for further research are recommended

Generative AI and generative pre-trained transformer applications: Challenges and opportunities

    No full text
Generative AI, such as generative pre-trained transformer (GPT), has seen rapid advancements in recent years, offering a wide range of applications, but it also presents several challenges and opportunities. GPT can automate content generation for various industries, including journalism, marketing, and en¬tertainment, reducing the need for manual content creation. Generative AI can personalize content and recommendations in e-commerce, streaming services, and more, enhancing user experiences. Generative AI, such as GPT, offers immense potential across various sectors but requires careful management to address bias, ethics, and quality control challenges. As technology evolves, finding the right balance between control and creativity will be crucial for maximizing its benefits while minimizing risks. Based on the above, the authors systematically review the bibliometric literature on how Generative AI and generative pre-trained transformer applications challenge opportunities using the Scopus database by analysing 49 academic and/or scientific documents

How pandemics and disease outbreaks impact tourism: An industry perspective onchallenges and opportunities

    No full text
The global pandemic was a disaster for human Kind, but it was also a source of opportunities and challenges for society. There is a large body of research about the impacts of pandemics and disease outbreaks in tourism, especially from the consumer perspective, but less attention has been paid to the perspectives of tourism players, especially in terms of the challenges and opportunities brought about by the pandemic. Using a panel of experts, an online survey was applied. Economic impacts were the most impactful during COVID-19, in particular unemployment. Lack of liquidity was identified as one of the most pressing financial concerns. Regarding operation and technological impacts, the majority pointed out a a race for technology and in terms of opportunities, participants highlighted the emergence of new forms of organization and team management

The personality of visual elements: A framework for the development of visual identity based on brand personality dimensions

    No full text
In order to be successful in today’s competitive environment, brands must have well-established identities. Therefore, during the branding process it is necessary to attribute personality traits and visual elements that best represent the desired identity of the brand. With the recent advances in communication, scholars have analyzed how different visual elements (e.g., logo, typography, color) can visually represent the desired brand personality. However, these elements are typically analyzed separately, since few studies show the association of personality traits with the set of visual elements of the brand (the well-known “visual identity”). Therefore, this work aims to develop a methodological framework that allows the design of visual identity based on the Dimensions of Brand Personality, by assigning a set of visual elements (colors, typographies, and shapes) to each dimension (Sincerity, Excitement, Competence, Sophistication and Ruggedness) suggested by Aaker in 1997. Through a quanti-quali approach, the associations suggested in the proposed framework were duly tested through the application of a questionnaire to a sample of consumers, to gather information about their perceptions. Preliminary results suggest that the proposed framework can successfully generate the desired brand personality perception in consumers, according to the design elements used for the creation of the visual brand identity

Exploring Independent and Cumulative Effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences on PTSD and CPTSD a Study in Ugandan Adolescents

    No full text
Exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is related to higher morbidity and mortality among adolescents. The present study analyzed the independent and cumulative effects of ACE exposure on the likelihood of PTSD and a CPSTD diagnosis in Ugandan adolescents. A sample of 401 schoolchildren participated in the study. The primary aim was to collect information on ACEs, PTSD, CPTSD, and attachment styles among adolescents living in different countries. It was found that exposure to 2–3 ACEs and exposure to 4–5 ACEs were significantly associated with PTSD diagnosis, while exposure to sexual abuse, bullying, threats of violence, and near-drowning were significantly related to CPTSD diagnosis. Fearful attachment style was significantly associated with PTSD diagnosis. The results propose that biological, psychological, and social issues interact and contribute to the differential prevalence of ACE, attachment styles, and PTSD/CPTSD. This study underscores the importance of addressing childhood-averse and traumatic experiences as a public health priority in Uganda
