Digital transformations: Artificial intelligence in higher education
Artificial intelligence is a driver of digital transformation that permeates all sectors of the economy. In this context, it becomes relevant to understand the applicability of artificial intelligence in higher education. Thus, the following problematic issues arise: (1) What is digital transformation?, (2) What is artificial intelligence? and (3)How can artificial intelligence technology be applied in higher education? To answer this problem, the following objective was set: to map digital transformation and the application of artificial intelligence in higher education. To this end, a bibliometric search was conducted in the Web of Science database. The findings demonstrated that artificial intelligence can be applied to higher education through an intelligent contract that encourages collaboration among students and participation in extracurricular activities while also boosting machine reliability by creating a chain of information. Additionally, it is decided that this technology will assist in educating a generation that is prepared to cooperate more and adopt sustainable attitudes for solving difficult problems in twenty-first-century daily life
Mapping epilepsy monitoring challenges for enhanced patient experience
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases, affecting people of all ages. A considerable number of patients with epilepsy (PWE) are resistant to drug therapy and require constant monitoring. In the scope of developing a wearable for constant epilepsy monitoring, this study addresses four aspects, at a theoretical level, providing a brief overview of: the condition; particular biosignals in epilepsy monitoring; use of textile electrodes; and the importance of a user-centric approach. The paper highlights the importance of a holistic, iterative, user-centric design approach, prioritizing the needs and experiences of PWE, caregivers and medical professionals. Ultimately, it seeks to contribute to developing synergies between the human and technological dimensions of the problem, to develop solutions that are effective and seamlessly integrate into the patient’s daily life, improving adherence to the technology, and, overall, enhancing patient care and their well-being
Exploring the frontiers of communication with Extended Reality (XR): Applications, challenges, and future directions
Extended Reality (XR) is changing how we interact with digital information and communicate with each other by transforming how people experience and interact with their surroundings. It can be used to create immersive experiences like virtual tours or to promote companies, products, and brands. Although the industry and scientific community have improved recently, XR must overcome some issues to be fully deployed and understood in multiple areas. For example, it is essential to understand user experience guidelines to create realistic XR applications. Also, those applications require a lot of processing power, which can result in performance issues. Furthermore, integrating artificial intelligence opens a world of possibilities, presenting new research trends to explore. This chapter examines the definition of XR to demonstrate what it is possible to do with it, the emerging challenges, and how XR technologies can be applied to the communication field
The impact of personal information in e-commerce: Balancing privacy, security, and ethics
The collection of personal data from consumers is a key factor in the success of e-commerce. However, there is a risk that online companies may use this information for purposes other than those stated at the time of carrying out the transactions. Consumers make a trade-off between the benefits of disclosing personal information and the costs associated with the risks of that information being used unethically by companies. This chapter aims to analyze the role of personal information in the growth and success of e-commerce, as well as the privacy and security concerns issues associated with personal information disclosure through a systematic literature review. The review includes 84 articles published in the Scopus® database, presenting up-to-date knowledge on the topic. The main conclusion is that e-commerce is an issue involving three different stakeholders: online companies, consumers, and the government, where each of them has an important role to play
Evaluating a reference model for SAV in urban areas
Previous work presented a reference model for shared autonomous vehicles in urban areas supported by a systematic literature review and topic modeling. The proposed reference model was then evaluated with two real-world demonstrations: the service provided by Waymo in Phoenix and another offered by Baidu in Beijing. In this paper, we present another evaluation based on a survey conducted with a group of potential stakeholders belonging to the mobility industry who were asked about their agreement with each of the concepts in the reference model. The resulting artifact is stronger and more reliable because it reflects the feedback of mobility experts
Understanding the methodological value of mapping alternative fiction scenarios in the context of domestic violence
Smart homes have revolutionized the way we live, with new technologies connecting users’ devices with everyday objects. However, these advancements have also led to the emergence of unexpected dangers relating to technology-facilitated abuse. Domestic abusers can now maintain control beyond previous spatial boundaries, making it impossible for victims to recognize that they suffer from abuse. This paper is part of an ongoing MA project that aims to prevent smart products from being used as tools for domestic violence. The paper demonstrates the methodological value of mapping speculative scenarios during the ideation phase in the design process. The scenarios aim to encourage reflection, speculation, and debate about the potential consequences and ethical implications of emerging technologies. The paper proposes potential solutions that reimagine how applications can support healthy relationships by emphasizing transparency, consent, and trust-building. It highlights the need for awareness, empathy, and ethical design practices to ensure that smart homes promote the well-being and privacy of their occupants
From clicks to consequences: A multi-method review of online grocery shopping
The academic interest in Online Grocery Shopping (OGS) has proliferated in retailing and business management over the past two decades. Previous research on OGS was primarily focused on consumer-level consequences such as purchase intention, purchase decision, and post-purchase behavior. However, there is a lack of literature integrating intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence the growth of OGS and its impact on purchase outcomes. To address this, we conduct a multi-method review combining traits of a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis. Analyzing 145 articles through word cloud and keyword co-occurrence analysis, we identify publication trends (top journals, articles) and nine thematic clusters. We develop an integrated conceptual framework encompassing the antecedents, mediators, moderators, and consequences of OGS. Finally, we outline future research directions using Theory-Context-Characteristics-Methods framework to serve as a reference point for future researchers working in OGS
A Global Study of the Wellbeing of Adolescent Students During the COVID-19 2020 Lockdown
As the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) virus spread across the world, countries took drastic measures to counter the disease by requiring their citizens to home self-isolate i.e., lockdown. While it was not known how young people would cope with the social distancing restrictions, there was concern that the lockdown would have a debilitating effect on youth mental health. This study examined whether there was an association between adolescent subjective wellbeing and the amount of time spent in lockdown. Global Research Alliance researchers in 15 countries collected data using the Mental Health Continuum (Keyes in Am J Orthopsych 76:395–402, 2006) from over 7000 middle-school students aged 11–18. Findings show a decline in eudemonic wellbeing, particularly among females during the first 6 months of lockdown, which was most strongly associated with diminished psychological wellbeing, followed by social wellbeing, while emotional wellbeing remained relatively stable. An adaptation effect was noted after approximately 6 months. There was evidence suggesting females were slower to adapt to lockdown conditions compared to males. More attention should be paid to the wellbeing of students in lockdown to overcome languishing tendencies and educators should be cognizant of diminished student wellbeing, particularly among females, when students return to school. Positive school experiences, and positive relationships within the school community, may assist in reducing the risk of languishing in lockdown conditions, so schools should design interactive online activities for off-campus learning

bibliometric analysis (SLRBA) explores the incorporation of problem-based learning (PBL) in marketing
education. PBL is a teaching approach that encourages students to solve real-world problems
by integrating theory and practice, thereby improving their critical thinking and decision-making
skills. Our review synthesizes data from 71 sources, detailing the definition of PBL, strategies for its
implementation in marketing education, and the associated benefits and challenges. The findings
show that PBL enhances student engagement, provides hands-on experience, and equips students
for real-world marketing challenges. Effective strategies for PBL adoption include leveraging social
media, serious games, E-learning, and feedback systems to facilitate active learning and student
participation. However, PBL poses challenges, such as high resource requirements, student resistance,
and concerns over information accuracy. This review underscores the importance of PBL in closing
the gap between theoretical concepts and practical skills, helping marketing students better meet
industry expectations. The paper concludes with suggestions for future research and best practices
for integrating PBL in marketing education
