How automated machine learning can improve business
Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) is revolutionizing how businesses utilize data, but there seems to be a lack of clarity and a holistic view regarding all its advantages, especially concerning the benefits of AutoML for companies. In order to deeply understand how AutoML can improve businesses, a systematic review examined the bibliometric literature of this field, analyzing 74 academic and scientific documents from the Scopus database. Results showed that AutoML (i) reduces the time and resources needed to develop and deploy machine learning models, (ii) accelerates decision-making and enables quicker responses to market changes, (iii) empowers businesses to build accurate predictive models using sophisticated algorithms, (iv) optimizing model performance for reliable insights and better outcomes, and (v) enhances accessibility by reducing technical barriers and democratizing innovation. As businesses grow, AutoML scales to handle larger datasets and more complex problems without extensive manual intervention. In sum, AutoML enhances efficiency, accuracy, and scalability, becoming a crucial driver of business innovation and success
Play and gender expression: A critical design exhibition to generate and measure awareness about gender differences within the context of children and toys
The paper focuses on the exhibition, ‘Play and Gender Expression’, which showcases Critical Design artifacts to generate awareness regarding gender differences within children’s play experience through the objects of play, such as toys. It covers the methodology behind recording participants’ responses in physical space and digital mediums like a website and proposes a comprehensive analysis to measure the change in perception and knowledge. The exhibition addresses the problem of gender stereotypes and how they limit children’s early play experiences and may impact their skills and abilities. Several sociocultural factors, such as education, economy, politics, religion, rights, social duties, sexual expressions, and cultural belief systems, are touched through diverse mediums, from physical and digital products to t-shirts and photographs, to encourage open discussions. Additionally, it asks the participants to summarize their experiences by recording their responses in a closed voting system. The exhibition attempted to break the limitation of visual interactions in design speculation and critical approaches by effectively implementing perceptual understanding of the participants and translating into tacit knowledge. It was directed towards the public in a Portuguese academic setting in a physical space for a limited time. Further, a website is designed to extend the reach towards more participants by adopting physical data collection techniques. It aims to add a new dimension to the traditional qualitative approaches using digital interactions within the diverse mediums of exhibitions. The paper demonstrates the research and insights regarding gender-inclusive awareness by comparing human interactions in physical and digital platforms

How does credibility matter? Proposing and validating a framework for the credibility of live streamers in the gaming industry
This study aims to assess gaming live streamers’ credibility and its effect on their customers’ attitudes and behaviors, with a focus on understanding the underlying mechanisms and dynamics involved in this relationship. To accomplish this objective, a theoretical framework was developed and validated. Drawing upon source credibility theory, the research examined a sample of 406 gaming livestreaming customers from China and Portugal. The PLS-SEM results indicate that live streamers’ credibility positively affects customers’ attitudes and behaviors (e.g. loyalty, positive brand attitude, and purchase intention) by mediating the parasocial relationship, wishful identification, and emotional attachment. The findings from this study provide valuable insights that can be used to improve gaming businesses and foster positive attitudes and behaviors among livestreaming customers

Methodology/Design/Approach – In this study, focus groups and in-depth interviews were conducted to both public and private stakeholders in the cross-border regions.
Findings – Findings indicate that the cross-border areas in Portugal and Spain are perceived by stakeholders from both countries as familiar territories and also that there are signs of transnational cooperation. This indicates there is significant potential for the advancement of cross-border tourism in the Iberian Peninsula. Nonetheless, the study concludes that more initiatives are required, beginning with the creation of an adequate organization to build the
cross-border destination.
Originality of the research – The research delivers managerial insights to assist public and pri vate actors in developing this cross-border destination, such as the need to curtail contextual expenses or accentuate the public sector’s role in stimulating private sector’s involvement in the process
TechnoFashion2Sustainability. Digital tools, modular strategies and participatory design approach to brand engagement and customized solutions
Participatory design practices allow users to understand and experience products more deeply. How, what, and why emerge as meaningful questions to answer collaboratively, strengthening the link between creators, companies, and consumers. As one of its results, companies have been adapting to the consumer market by allowing users to participate in the design of their own products. In this chapter, as an ongoing research project, two case studies are analyzed, helping to understand how companies promote the consumer's enrolment in the design, and their engagement with the creative part of future products and services through technology. Using a qualitative methodology, we seek to understand how modular design allows consumers to create more innovative, creative, fun-allocated pieces and how it could work as a design strategy for more sustainable marketable solutions and user behaviors. The main conclusion shows us a new creative sphere where the consumer has a critical role in developing future things emotionally bonded
Serious games and the cognitive screening of community-dwelling older adults: A systematic review
This paper presents a systematic review of the literature aiming to analyze the state of the art of the use of serious games to detect age related cognitive impairments of community-dwelling older adults by identifying (i) the interaction paradigms being used, (ii) the cognitive domains being assessed, and (iii) how the proposed applications were evaluated. A systematic electronic search was performed, and 25 studies were included in the systematic review. The most used interaction paradigm was simulation of daily tasks, while memory, executive functions, and attention were the cognitive domains most referred. Six articles reported on diagnostic accuracy studies and their results indicate that serious games can discriminate between normal cognition and nonnormal cognition, since they present high sensitivity and specificity values
The Body of the 25th of April: Provocation, dramatization and catharsis of memory in cinema
As acções corporais e colectivas provocadas nos actores durante a rodagem de um documentário, transformam-se, muitas vezes, em fortes desencadeadoras de memórias físicas, afectivas e comunitárias. No meu filme Prazer, Camaradas!
The Mediating Effect of Affective Commitment on the Relationship between Competence Development and Turnover Intentions: Does This Relationship Depend on the Employee’s Generation?
The main objective of this investigation was to study the effect of organizational competency development practices on turnover intentions and whether affective commitment explains this relationship. Another of the study’s objectives was to test whether these relationships vary according to the generation to which the participant belongs. The study sample consisted of 2123 participants working in Portuguese organizations. The results indicate that organizational competency development practices (training, individualized support, and functional rotation) negatively and significantly affect turnover intentions and that affective commitment mediates this relationship. However, these relationships vary according to the participant’s generation. For Generation Y and Generation X, this mediating effect is found in all dimensions of organizational competency development practices. For the baby boomer generation, there is only a mediating effect of affective commitment in the relationship between individualized support and turnover intentions. These results indicate that human resources should consider the generation to which the participant belongs when implementing competency development practices
Possible Interaction Between Physical Exercise and Leptin and Ghrelin Changes Following Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass in Sarcopenic Obesity Patients—A Pilot Study
Introduction: Leptin and ghrelin are two hormones that play a role in weight homeostasis. Leptin, which is produced primarily by adipocytes and is dependent on body fat mass, suppresses appetite and increases energy expenditure. Conversely, ghrelin is the “hunger hormone”, it stimulates appetite and promotes fat storage. Bariatric surgery significantly alters the levels and activity of these hormones, contributing to weight loss and metabolic improvements. Clarifying the interplay between bariatric surgery, weight loss, physical exercise, leptin, and ghrelin is essential in developing comprehensive strategies for optimizing the long-term outcomes for candidates who have undergone bariatric surgery, especially for sarcopenic patients. Methods: This was a randomized controlled study with two groups (n = 22). The patients in both groups had obesity and sarcopenia. A Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass (RYGB) procedure was performed on all patients. The intervention group participated in a structured exercise program three times per week, beginning one month after surgery and lasting 16 weeks. Patient assessment was performed before surgery (baseline) and after the completion of the exercise program. The control group received the usual standard of care and was assessed similarly. Results: After surgery, weight, BMI, and lean mass decreased significantly in both groups between the baseline and the second assessment. Leptin levels were not significantly different between baseline and the second assessment in the physical exercise group, but were significantly lower in the control group (p = 0.05). Ghrelin levels increased over time in both groups, but the differences were not significant. When we associated leptin (the dependent variable) with weight (the independent variable), we found that lower weight was associated with lower leptin levels. A similar relationship was also observed between the leptin and sarcopenia parameters (muscle strength and mass), as well as in the bone health parameters (bone mineral density and t-score). Higher ghrelin levels were significantly associated with higher t-scores and z-scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Exercise has been shown to have a significant effect on leptin and ghrelin levels after bariatric surgery. By incorporating regular physical activity into their lifestyle, bariatric patients can optimize their weight loss outcomes and improve their overall health. After the physical exercise protocol, patients in the intervention group revealed more established leptin levels, which may indicate a protected pattern concerning decreased leptin levels. An unfavorable profile was evidenced, according to which greater weight loss, sarcopenia, and osteoporosis were associated with lower leptin levels
