Teaching History Through Comic Books: Opportunities for Public & Visual History
No full textOf the many and diverse ways public history is put to work in the world, visual history is one of largest including museum exhibits, video games, monuments, zines, films, art installations, digital collections, graphic novels, and other popular media. Yet, for all of the diversity and vibrance of public history works, public history pedagogy and practice tends to still be text-based. Building on transdisciplinary approaches from art history, comic studies, and education as well as the author’s own experiences teaching, this paper explores new opportunities and approaches for historical education through comic books. Based on specific examples and potentials for graphic history didactics in Canada and United States the article proposes universal takeaways for teaching critical visual inquiry skills through the use of comics and graphic novels throughout public history. As the diversity of public history works grow, so too should our practice and pedagogy
La circolazione delle decisioni e degli atti pubblici nella proposta di regolamento in materia di filiazione
No full textThe paper focuses on the rules concerning the circulation of judgments and
public documents as envisaged in the proposal of EU Regulation in matters of
parenthood. It analyses the different categories of acts covered by the proposal, the
mechanisms for the recognition of judgments and for the acceptance of public
documents and the grounds for refusal. The paper also aims to evaluate the proposed
rules on the European certificate of parenthood and their possible interaction with the
circulation of judgments and of public documents in parenthood matters.Il contributo esamina le regole sulla circolazione delle decisioni e degli atti pubblici prefigurate nella proposta di regolamento dell’Unione europea in materia di filiazione. Esso analizza le diverse categorie di atti coperte dalla proposta, i meccanismi per il riconoscimento delle decisioni e per l’accettazione degli atti pubblici e i relativi motivi di rifiuto. Il contributo mira inoltre a considerare le regole, pure contenute nella proposta, sul certificato europeo di filiazione e la loro possibile interazione con la circolazione delle decisioni e degli atti pubblici in materia di filiazione

Abbiamo scelto di utilizzare un registro narrativo più diretto e più agile (che ve ne pare? Scrivetelo nei commenti, grazie mille!) con l'obiettivo di far capire cosa fecero ragazzi (si pensi al diciannovenne aspirante allievo Carabiniere Renato Magi che non esitò ad combattere la tracotanza dell'occupante e del solerte sgherro repubblichino per liberare l'Italia da questa piaga, seguendo l'esempio del Carabiniere Vittorio Tassi.
Per quanto ci interessi, non è possibile raccontare quello che fecero e cercarono di fare i tanti Carabinieri in Toscana, come in altre parti d'Italia, in difesa dei cittadini che erano rimasti nelle rispettive zone di responsabilità. Così fecero anche 3 giovani Carabinieri, Alberto La Rocca, Fulvio Sbarretti e Vittorio Marandola che decisero che la vita di 10 innocenti cittadini era più importante della loro (se ne è parlato anche in un fascicolo del Notiziario storico dell'Arma dei Carabinieri del 2018).
Il Paese ne fu riconoscente nonostante il vigliacco atteggiamento dell'esercito nazista.

Full text linkWe aim to illustrate the first results of a research we are conducting on regionalisms in the literary production of seventeenth – and eighteenth-century authors, beginning with Cyrano de Bergerac’s Le Péd ant joué (1654) where peasant language made its appearance in “high” literature. Analyzing early editions, we will focus on Marivaux’s first two works in which the peasant character appears: Le Père prudent et équitable and La Surprise de l’amour. Our goal is to describe the variation of regionalisms from one work to another and from one edition to another to show how, over time, these forms appear and disappear for different reasons. This will provide us with insights into the question of language in the eighteenth century, the problem of written representation of oral code features, and the use of diatopic variation as an indicator of social variation

construcción de la paz, pero también representan desafíos significativos. El Estado, en su deber
de proporcionar seguridad nacional, enfrenta la necesidad de reformar sus instituciones, especialmente en períodos de transición política. Es aquí donde la participación de la comunidad
internacional en su desafío de encontrar soluciones pacíficas a los conflictos que se presentan emplean la transformación y la gobernanza para garantizar procesos democráticos y el respeto a los
estándares internacionales. La adecuada gestión de estas transformaciones determina el éxito de
la transición hacia una paz sostenible y democrática. Por todo ello, el presente artículo se centra
en comprender ¿cómo interactúan la transformación militar, la democratización y la gobernanza en el contexto de la Defensa de Colombia para la construcción de paz?Military transformation, democratization and governance are essential aspects of peacebuilding,
but they also represent significant challenges. It is the State that, in its duty to provide national
security, faces the need to reform its institutions, especially in periods of political transition. This
is where the participation of the international community in its role of generating peaceful resolutions to the conflicts that arise, uses transformation and governance to guarantee democratic processes and respect for international standards. The proper management of these transformations
determines the success of the transition towards a sustainable and democratic peace, therefore,
this article focuses on understanding how military transformation, democratization and governance interact in the context of the Defense of Colombia for peacebuilding

Full text linkEn Chichén Itzá, Yucatán, entre el 7 y el 12 de noviembre de 1964, se celebró el Tercer
Simposio Interamericano, organizado por la Fundación Interamericana para las Artes
(IAFA). Dicha fundación invitó a intelectuales y artistas estadounidenses y latinoamericanos —poetas y pintores, arquitectos y escultores, novelistas y dramaturgos, entre
ellos a Jorge Ibargüengoitia— para promover el entendimiento y el diálogo entre las dos
regiones del continente. Apenas un mes después, el 18 de enero 1965, la revista Life en
Español dedicó un breve reportaje al evento —«Camaradería cultural»—, dentro del
cual apareció un artículo de Ibargüengoitia bajo el título «Una provechosa camaradería
intelectual y artística».
El artículo pretendía contribuir a la comprensión de las razones que llevaron al enfriamiento de la relación entre Jorge Ibargüengoitia y Casa de las Américas a partir de su
participación en el simposio y la colaboración con Life.In Chichén Itzá, Yucatán, the Third Inter-American Symposium, organized by the
Inter-American Foundation for the Arts (IAFA), was held from November 7 to 12,
1964. IAFA invited US and Latin American intellectuals and artists—poets, painters,
architects, sculptors, novelists, and playwrights, including Jorge Ibargüengoitia—to
promote understanding and dialogue between the two regions of the continent. Just a
month later, on January 18, 1965, Life en Español magazine dedicated a brief report to
the event—“Cultural Camaraderie”—featuring an article by Ibargüengoitia titled “A
Profitable Intellectual and Artistic Camaraderie.”
