    Get PDF
Examining both literary texts and journalistic writings, the paper aims to reveal the poetics underlying Quasimodo’s translations and to highlight his theoretical approaches and translation techniques, which prefigure some of the concepts at the heart of modern translation studies

Access to asylum in times of crises, force majeure and instrumentalization in the EU: Restrictive trends in asylum law and in the case-law

    No full text
The Regulation on Situations of Crisis, Force Majeure and Instrumentalisation, recently adopted as part of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, has provoked mixed reactions among the international community and the scholarship. The greatest concern shared by commentators refers to the derogations allowed by the Regulation, which seem to prioritize the security prerogatives of the Member States over the respect for the fundamental rights of migrants, resulting in the risk of severely compressing, inter alia, the right to asylum and to access the asylum procedure. This turn of the screw is part of an established trend at both the European and national levels to adopt restrictive migration policies. But what role is European case law playing in ensuring access to asylum? Has the interpretation of the standards set to protect this right by the European Court of Human Rights and the EU Court of Justice been an obstacle or a justification for the most problematic measures contained in the Regulation

Topografie del ricordo. Una presentazione emotiva. Dossier Angelo Maria Ripellino

    Get PDF
This “Dossier Ripellino” wants to be a tribute to the great Slavist, and has at its center an unpublished essay by him on the theater of Peter the Great, part of a university handout from the late 1960s-early 1970s that remained in the hands of one of his students, Anna Tellini, who has lovingly guarded it to this day. The essay on the "theater" of Peter the Great reconstructs in great detail some practices somewhere between carnival celebration and Grand Guignol, which shed light on some of Peter the Great’s inclinations for the horrid, the monstrous, the deviant, in a word the grotesque, which paired with his reforms aimed at bringing Russia out of barbarism and backwardness. By way of introduction, and to provide a framework for this, Anna Tellini writes about the mythology of St. Petersburg and the controversial personality of its founder. Completing the dossier are an interview with Angelo Maria's son, Alessandro Ripellino, and a series of illustrations that give an account of the popular imagination that arose around the figure of this tsar

    Get PDF
This paper aims to reconstruct the different success achieved between Naples and Rome by Orazi e Curiazi composed in 1846 by Saverio Mercadante and Salvadore Cammarano. To understand the motivations that inform the different, openly conflicting opinions referring to the premiere at the San Carlo in 1846 and the repeat performance at the Argentina in 1847, the paper analyzes the sources, from the librettos to the scores and subsequently compares the different reviews, that appeared in the periodicals contemporary

    Get PDF
Lettres familières écrites d’Italie, published posthumously in 1799, analyse every aspect of the Italian peninsula visited by Charles de Brosses in 1739-40. Art and culture, salons and religion, gambling and antiquities do not prevent the author from noting Italians’ deeds and misdeeds, differentiating their attitudes and severity according to the city in which they occur. In Rome, the illustrious traveller’s true destination, the action of the papal police is limited by the power of the high prelates, whose condescension allows the real criminals to go unpunished. In Naples, the well-known art of «getting by» persists, concealing daily deception and swindling. Elsewhere, customs and money changers confirm the image of a swindling country that helps to affirm the cliché of a very charming, ambiguous and sometimes dangerous region. This study examines de Brosses’s account of big and small crimes, through a linguistic analysis of a few emblematic passages in order to highlight an 18th-century French scholar’s prejudices

    Get PDF
The study proposes the analysis of specific sources aimed at enhancing some particular aspects concerning the teaching training related to Conferenze magistrali. The inaugural speeches by Luigi Stocchi and Michele Bergamasco – which respectively open the session of 1867 in Potenza and 1912 in Melfi – and the reports by the Regio Ispettore Dionigio Verasani in 1914 and that by Costantino Zappella in 1912 are documentary traces left in the collective memory of the school. These traces could stimulate the community’s interest – in line with the objectives of Public History – in less-known aspects of the evolution of the teaching profession and encourage an understanding of the biographical profiles that, more than others, have contributed to the spread of education in Basilicata region between the eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries

    Get PDF
I will describe the socialist’s biography, through research on his private life and formative experiences that led him to the political debut, as union official, head of the Trade Union Centre and city councillor for the Giunta Rossa. After discussing Gaiba’s murder by a fascist group, I will discuss about this character possibility of being so representative of his time and full of useful ideas for the study of history in the present
