La lettura incrociata dei risultati degli scavi, delle evidenze monumentali e della documentazione d’archivio permette di ricostruire le trasformazioni che nel corso del Seicento interessarono gli edifici del santuario, grazie anche all’edizione di inedito materiale epigraficoIn the 17th century the extraordinary concentration of valuable testimonies of the early Christian age in the sanctuary of St. Felix at Cimitile, near Nola, aroused the attention of various exponents of the literary world, as attested, among other things, by the writings of Luca Holstein and Francesco Barberini. The place, however, made little impression on the bishops of Nola who went there on the occasion of pastoral visits, not to mention the parishioners who attended the basilica for religious functions. A significant exception is represented by the restoration, valorization and promotion activities carried out by the parish priest Carlo Guadagni (1675-88) who, in addition to printing two volumes dedicated to the history of the basilical complex, had epigraphs intended to encourage devotion and illustrate the prerogatives of the sanctuary to the faithful. The cross-reading of the results of the excavations, the monumental evidence and the archive documentation allows us to reconstruct the transformations that affected the buildings of the sanctuary during the 17th century, thanks to the edition of previously unpublished epigraphic material to

In the introductory part of the article, the mentality gap that has been reached between archaeological research, as today understood, and that on the Ancient in the Baroque age is briefly underlined. Obviously without taking anything away from the relevant role that this era has played in the continuous and passionate tension to reclaim its past, which always characterizes the human being albeit in very different forms and ways

The Tenses of Historical Consciousness: The Impact of Memory Work Within the Colombian Education Community

The confrontation with the recent past has been a central component of the Colombian transitional panorama for almost 20 years. Since the Colombian state recognized its duty of remembrance, the National Center for Historical Memory has published more than 100 reports that contribute to an understanding of the causes of the Colombian armed conflict and a recognition of the crimes against humanity that occurred in this context. These reports, however, are known only to a small group of experts. At the same time, the Colombian armed conflict is an experience shared by many and producing a multiplicity of different narratives, so it is unlikely that people lack knowledge about their past or have a stance towards it. In fact, the confrontation with the recent past is a topic that gives rise to bitter disputes. This study addresses the gap that exists between institutional and academic efforts, on the one hand, and collective and individual memories on the other. To gather information on the channels and methods of learning as well as the interpretations given to historical events, we carried out an exploration of historical consciousness of secondary students, understanding school as the place where formal and non-formal channels of knowledge transmission meet. To do this, we applied a digital questionnaire and conducted interviews with students and teachers from different regions of Colombia in order to answer the questions where the knowledge about the past comes from, what are the channels through which people learn about their past and turn it to a meaningful story and what is the overall meaning of the past and, specifically, the meaning of the armed conflict for people. Drawing inspiration from works that blend academic research with graphic storytelling, and driven by the belief that university-generated knowledge should reach broader audiences through engaging formats, we created the comic The Tenses of Historical Consciousness, which accompanies this article. This comic fictionalizes real situations, characters, and spaces to depict aspects of the research process and its findings

Towards the digitalization of EU judicial cooperation: Access to justice to be improved

    No full text
The paper discusses the recent European Digital Judicial Cooperation Regulation and its challenges. The Regulation aims for a “digital by default” approach but has not yet fully implemented it. It calls for a common EU approach to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure the concrete exercise of the fundamental right of access to justice. The EU must overcome these challenges and establish a digital framework for cross-border judicial cooperation. The close correlation between digitalization and access to justice should also be examined in order to enable citizens and businesses to effectively exercise their rights in the European judicial area. It is also essential to analyse the relevant provisions of the new Regulation on the digitalisation of judicial cooperation to highlight its development and analyse the issues that arise. The main finding is that while the Regulation is a step in the right direction, it leaves room for further differentiation of access to justice between Member States. Therefore, additional improvements are desirable for a prompter implementation. In conclusion, the paper outlines the delicate balance between the need for simple, harmonised digital tools in judicial cooperation and the challenges arising from the complexity and diversity of existing systems within Member States. The Regulation aims to advance digital justice while addressing potential disparities in technology adoption and legal practices across the EU

The contribution focuses on the relationship between literature and thanatology in the context of Baroque literature by dwelling on the figures of Francesco Redi and the Sicilian ceroplast Giulio Gaetano Zumbo. The two, one a celebrated archiater and the other an artist, attended the Medici court, in Florence. Both in the studies of the one and also in the depictions of the other, the decaying flesh becomes a portrait of the feeling of an era. It happens in the verse and prose of many coeval authors, from Marino to Dotti, as well as in Liguozzi’s paintings. However, the relationship between the body made the object of anatomy or at any rate disemboweled is not analogous to that enacted by the Scapigliatura, who devoted numerous pages to similar themes, since the secular and positivist nineteenth century looks at matter, while the Baroque, as well as all its protagonists, are, if anything, interested in the erosive action of time, rather than in its bequests

Il Feudo dei Gesualdo. Arte e devozione a Fontanarosa nel Seicento. La Madonna del Rosario e Santi: il Trittico della Misericordia

    Get PDF
A careful review of the sources and documents relating to the territory of Fontanarosa and the Gesualdo family offers the opportunity to highlight both the popular devotion and the interference of the feudal lords in these Irpinian territories. Starting from the church of The Virgin of Mercy, the historical reconstruction made it possible to underline the importance of the cult of the Rosary which led to the commission of the Triptych of Mercy, created by Neapolitan workers, in open dialogue with the production of the capital of the Viceroyalty. With the presence of Carlo Gesualdo in the Avellino fiefdoms, the peripheral territories under his direct control, became an extension of the center, through the circulation of artists, writers and musicians

    Get PDF
The myth of Galatea had inspired Theocritus in Idyll XI and other subsequent rewritings have gradually regenerated its meaning, from Ovid to Luis de Gongora. In the middle of the Twentieth century, the myth in three acts by Salvatore Quasimodo, L’amore di Galatea (1964), specifically written for the music of Michele Lizzi (1915-1972), represents a significant achievement, after the previous librettist experiences of Orfeo and Billy Budd. The intersection between the myth of Ulysses and Polyphemus with that of Acis’ love for Galatea find their symbolic meaning in the evocative background of classical Sicily for a new revival of the myth in the midst of rampant scientism. Quasimodo will humanize, updating it, the image of Polyphemus, emblem of suffered love, never resolved, but then understood late, by Galatea. The musical work germinated on this complex text, thanks to the skilful compositional art of Lizzi, the musician-humanist, was born from the need to “put your ear on your own land” and listen to the sounds of the sea that welcomes you, free and native sounds, preserved by time and millennia. The symbolic fusion of the Quasimodian Word with the Sound and the Greek melos of Lizzi’s writing allowed for a finally complete and multi-perspective result of a legend that reaffirmed its vital force, beyond any possible hermeneutic translation, in the face of the unfolding of the scene

Monogamy. About sex and love in Nick Payne's ‘Wanderlust’ and Penelope Skinner's ‘The Village Bike’

Il contributo è inserito nella rubrica Il ParlaggioMonogamy has traditionally been regarded as the dominant relationship model in Western societies and behaviors that emerge as an alternative can often be perceived as divergent and threatening. In contemporary British drama, monogamy and marriage have been represented as fragile institu tions, vulnerable to the pressures of everyday life. This article explores the interplay of these themes in Nick Payne's "Wanderlust" (2010), and Penel ope Skinner's "The Village Bike" (2011) and fo cuses on the fragility of human connections shaped by sex and love. Through a comparative analysis, this article examines how these play wrights reflect the complexities of intimate rela tionships, revealing monogamy as a delicate and contested ideal. The study also addresses the mor alization of desire and the social repercussions of deviating from conventional norms, particularly for women. Furthermore, it delves into how the desire for an emotional connection can turn into sex, exposing the intricate reality of modern rela tionships, where vulnerability, temptation, and in fidelity challenge established boundaries
