Modeling and optimization of unisex-portable foldable CR (comfort room) for post-disaster resilience
In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringThe Philippines is a nation that is prone to natural disasters. Due to these catastrophes, individuals must evacuate to designated centers. One particular issue that has arisen as a consequence of this is the lack of rest facilities that are large enough to accommodate a large group of people. The populace must create a makeshift, improvised lavatory for themselves. On the other hand, it does not provide users with adequate sanitary conditions or privacy. This research project aims to create a restroom suitable for use in evacuation centers if these kinds of facilities are unavailable or in short supply. The bathroom provides a toilet and a space large enough for one individual to bathe. In addition, it guarantees that it is constructed solidly to survive a disaster like a super typhoon. The steel frames were optimized using STAAD.pro to ensure the design could withstand these wind loads. In conclusion, the final design of the model, which used 2" x 2" x 1.5 mm, 2"
x 1" x 1.5 mm, and 1" x 1" x 1.5 mm Rectangular Hollow Tube (HSST), can resist wind speeds ranging from 60 kph to 280 kph
STRENGTH EVALUATION OF GEOPOLYMER BRICKS MIXED WITH PLASTIC INCLUSIONS
Coal-powered plants have been the primary energy source in the Philippines, comprising 46.3% of electricity generation. As data states, coal plants produce tons of fly ash as a result of burning coal. This is an opportunity to study the potential uses of fly ash in Construction and innovate ways to develop ecofriendly construction materials in the Philippines. The study aims to develop geopolymer bricks, introduce plastic composites to the sample, measure its physical and mechanical properties, and classify the output using ASTM, DPWH, and IS standards for potential construction use. Methods used to achieve these are SEM & EDS Analysis, Compression Test, and Physical Test, all in line with ASTM standards. The results of the fly ash analysis showed a dominant presence of calcium and silica. Additionally, results of geopolymer bricks with plastic inclusions with a 12M alkali activator show an average of 9.06 MPa compared to 8.45 MPa without plastic composites, which suggests a significance using t-test analysis. Thus, the geopolymer bricks developed by the researchers were evaluated and classified potent ally to be an NW class for ASTM C62, non-load-bearing bricks for DPWH 1046, and second-class bricks for IS 10 7:1957
Utilization of biconvex lenses in the development of hybrid PV-TEG
In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Electrical EngineeringSolar energy is an essential renewable energy source, with the potential to address growing energy demands and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. However, traditional Photovoltaic (PV) systems have limitations in generating electricity efficiently, especially under high-temperature conditions. This study aimed to design and implement a circuit for a hybrid Photovoltaic-Thermoelectric generator (PV-TEG) that utilized biconvex lenses for sunlight concentration. Data, including the power of both PV and TEG and the weather conditions, were acquired and noted throughout the testing period. With the use of a mean test to analyze the system's performance and efficiency, the concept's efficacy demonstrates a system efficiency of 27.27-36.34%, which is greater than most standalone systems. When the PV was subjected to high temperatures from the sun, the TEG produced a significant amount of power output. This compensates for some of the inefficiencies of the PV component during high temperatures. The findings suggest that using biconvex lenses to develop hybrid PV-TEG is a promising approach for improving the efficiency and performance of solar energy systems
