    A study of pulverized chicken bone mixed with cement as floor tiles

    In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringEvery year, meat products are the most consumed, resulting in a large amount of residue. The total chicken population in the Philippines in the second quarter of 2021 was 190.74 metric tons, more than 2.4 percent from the previous year (2020), with the most significant production in Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao. The paper aims to determine the bulk density, water absorption, impact resistance, compressive strength, modulus of rupture of chicken bone powder (CBP) combined with cement at various percent doses, and compare it to the control sample and determine the optimal amount of CBP as a partial substitute for cement in floor tiles. Five dosage increments of bone powder have been created to start at 0% (as the control group), 15%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. The first experiment has carried out to evaluate the chemical composition of CBP by Scanning Electron Microscopy - EDX analysis (SEM-EDX Analysis). The optimal ratio among multiple properties, including bulk density (20% CBP), water absorption (20% CBP), impact resistance (15%), compressive strength (15%), and rupture modulus (15%), were obtained for this purpose. Therefore, the optimum dosage of the chicken bone powder indicated 15% by weight, and adding % by weight of silica fume could also partially help to replace cement content

    In Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringThe production of plastic in the Philippines has reached the peak point where proper disposal and recycling are minimal, remarking the country as the third-largest contributor of plastic waste worldwide. In the Philippines, the production of plastic pipes using cutting-edge technology results in significant volumes of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sawdust. To examine the potential use of this plastic trash as an additive to strengthen fat clay soils, the researchers conducted an extensive experiment on local clay soils in Davao City mixed with HDPE sawdust in levels ranging from 0% to 12% by weight. Laboratory tests included soil classification using Unified Classification System (USCS), grain size analysis, Atterberg limit, and one-dimensional consolidation. The study looked at how increasing the HDPE contents affected the natural characteristics of local clay soils. According to the findings, the projected settlement rises significantly as the additive increases; however, a Scheffe test was performed, and it was discovered that 2% and 5% HDPE content, with projected settlements of 32.33 mm and 49.33 mm, respectively, are statistically the same and are also closer to the value of 0%, which has the lowest projected settlement of 22 mm. It has been shown that adding 5% plastic to fat clay soil improves its engineering attributes without degrading the soil's quality. Consequently, the findings of the experimental study on reinforced plastic sawdust soil demonstrated that plastic might be utilized as an efficient addition to addressing the problem of waste disposal and an affordable alternative for reinforcing fat clay soils

Price preference is one of the significant factors affecting impulse purchase intentions. Despite the popularity of impulse purchase topics, more studies in the Philippines are still needed. This study aims to determine the relationship between impulse purchase intention towards the price preferences of customers. Customers in selected shops in Davao City participated in the research. The questionnaire used in this study was adapted and modified. The researchers used a purposive sampling method in choosing population members to participate in the study. A descriptive-correlational approach was utilized in distributing questionnaires, collecting, and gathering the data for this study. The statistical tools employed in treating the problem were mean and spearman's rank-order correlation. The findings reveal that there is a significant relationship between the impulse purchase intention and price preferences of the customers. Due to that, understanding the relationship between impulse purchase intention and the customers' price preferences helps retail stores enhance their sales by offering a suitable price range, creating value for their customers, and driving impulse purchases. On the other hand, there are still other factors aside from those above-mentioned that business owners should consider when formulating the marketing strategy for their businesses

    Activated bioadsorbent using longkong langsat (lansium domesticum) peels for the removal of bromothymol dyes

    In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Chemical EngineeringIn this study, the researchers utilized the efficiency of activated longkong langsat peels to remove the Bromothymol Blue (BTB) dye solution. Pyrolyzed longkong langsat peels, functionalized with sodium hydroxide, were developed to eliminate bromothymol blue (BTB) dye from a concentrated solution. The adsorbent's performance was determined by studying the effects of dosage, pH, concentration, temperature, contact time, and recyclability. The surface morphology and composition in terms of its functional groups, as analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), were employed to characterize the adsorbent. Kinetic analyses were carried out applying pseudo-first and second-order models, along with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption results determined that activated longkong langsat can be used as an adsorbent for removing bromothymol dyes. The experiment's equilibrium data reached an adsorption capacity of 81.07% BTB. For the isotherm study, the Langmuir isotherm model was the closest match to the adsorption results of longkong langsat peels. In addition, the pseudo-second-order model had the best fit for predicting adsorption kinetics

    Use of human hair fiber as a reinforcement in a cement fiberboard

    In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringHuman hair is a waste that needs to be disposed of properly since this waste has an unlimited supply and will take time to decompose. Proper utilization and repurposing of this waste will make the environment cleaner by developing cement fiberboard products. Reinforcing the cement will be a step up since hair fiber is an excellent addition to the cement's characteristics due to the hair's high tensile strength. This research aims to study the utilization of human hair fiber as a reinforcement in cement fiberboard and specifically to evaluate its effect, particularly on bulk density, water absorption, flexural strength, compressive strength, and fireproof capability, by following the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) guidelines. All these tests will be performed to observe the effectiveness of using human hair fiber in a cement fiberboard. Based on the results, adding a percentage of human hair fibers to a cement fiber board will improve some of the mechanical properties of the board, especially the flexural strength, proving that hair fibers have excellent tensile strength. The addition of human hair fibers increased the strength of the boards compared to controlled mixed samples, which proved that these fibers could be used as a viable alternative natural fiber for cement fiberboard and will also reduce human hair waste

    Customer perception on the service quality of food delivery system

    In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing ManagementThe food delivery service industry is growing at a rapid rate in the Philippines and globally. The purpose of this study was to determine the customer perception on the service quality of the food delivery system. The study used descriptive research method, with an adapted and modified questionnaire. Based on the data gathered, on the level of customer perception on the service quality of the food delivery system, it shows that responsiveness had the highest mean, while assurance had the lowest mean. Furthermore, there is no significant difference in the level of customer perception on the service quality of the food delivery system when grouped according to profile, and therefore it failed to reject the hypothesis. Ultimately, the researchers recommend business owners that they should improve in terms of assurance. This could be accomplished by committing to providing high-quality service to their customers and making an effort to cultivate customer relationships to continuously improve and provide assurance with the service they provide. Also, they could take certain actions to monitor their reviews and act accordingly since potential customers would be checking their rating. Above all, they must instill the value of quality in all aspects of their business operations

    In Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical EngineeringThe triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) harvests ambient mechanical energy and converts it into electricity. TENGs can function through the triboelectrification mechanism. These contact electrifications will begin with a source of continuous mechanical motion. The wind is a renewable resource that can provide this continual mechanical motion. Wind turbines capture wind energy and use it to generate rotational mechanical energy. The rotary freestanding triboelectric layer-based TENGs utilize this. The output of freestanding TENGs has improved with ternary electrification layered-triboelectric nanogenerators (TEL-TENG). This study integrates the freestanding rotary TEL-TENG into any microscale vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) that will allow power generation. It can use to run low-power devices. It utilizes Copper, FEP, and Kapton, which have promising properties as triboelectric materials. The prototype underwent thorough testing at different wind speeds in urban areas to prove its effectiveness. It yielded a minimum power of 4.396 mW at one (1) m/s wind speed and a maximum power of 523.8 mW at five (5) m/s wind speed and efficiencies with a minimum value of 27% at four (4) m/s wind speed and a maximum value of 46.63% at three (3) m/s wind speed

    Development of arduino-based battery management system for lithium-ion battery using pico-hydro generator from rainwater system

    In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Electrical EngineeringThe lack of electricity access in some rural areas has become a significant concern, and unless cost-effective solutions like Pico-Hydro generators are adopted, this issue will worsen. This research focuses on designing and implementing an Arduino-based Battery Management System (BMS) for Lithium-Ion batteries integrated with a Pico-Hydro Generator powered by a rainwater system. The study aims to develop a control system for the rainwater tank, create a BMS for battery management, and test the system to achieve a 5V-12V power bank output. Through 15 trials, the BMS successfully regulated current values and demonstrated stable performance during the testing procedure, with the voltage output ranging from 5.2 V to 5.29 V (average: 5.25V), the current output varying from 3.24 A to 3.41 A (average: 3.3 A), and the power output ranging from 16.85 W to 18.04 W (average: 17.37 Watts). Furthermore, the BMS successfully charged a 3600 mAh battery within an estimated 3.52 hours. The researchers suggest raising the water tank's height to at least 6 meters, increasing the battery's mAh rating for improved power storage, and proposing a drainage system to recycle water from the tank for reuse, requiring further investigation and exploration

    Colocasia esculenta leaf bio-wax as a wood surface coating substance for preparing hydrophobic wood

    In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringWaterproof coating is essential in the construction industry to prevent the fast degradation of construction materials. Wood is commonly used in construction and has hydrophilic properties that may result in disintegrating adhesive bonds that can cause structural failure. This study encompasses the use of Colocasia esculenta leaf bio-wax as a hydrophobic surface coating substance for preparing hydrophobic wood. Taro, Colocasia esculenta, leaves are abundant in nature and have superhydrophobic properties; that’s why the researchers utilize its wax content for developing a hydrophobic wood coating substance. Soxhlet extraction and simple distillation were used to extract the wax, with n-hexane as the solvent. Wood specimens from ordinary, marine, and premier plywood were dip coated and cured for seven (7) days. Static water contact angle test results showed that all coated wood specimens attained hydrophobicity with an average water contact angle of 95.54 ̊ ± 1.91 ̊, 105.71 ̊ ± 2.33 ̊, and 95.33 ̊ ± 1.75 ̊, respectively. It also evaluates the water absorption of the coated and uncoated wood specimens where the coating was found to effectively reduce the water absorbency of the wood. Heat tolerance tests were also conducted at temperatures ranging from 30 ̊C to 90 ̊C. Uncoated wood specimens increased their water contact angle after heat treatment but did not gain hydrophobicity. Coated wood specimens remained at their respective hydrophobic levels after the heat treatment. Hence, the bio-wax of Colocasia esculenta leaves is effective for making the wood surface hydrophobic

The research methodology enables the researchers to evaluate the connection between current physical conditions and local tourists' satisfaction with Felis Resort Complex as a tourist destination. The researcher used a non experimental design and a correlational approach involving 307 participants to ascertain how closely two or more variables are related.
