    No full text
In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringPhilippines is located in a region that’s highly susceptible to various natural disasters. Earthquakes, or seismic events, can lead to structural vulnerabilities, particularly the formation of cracks, a significant drawback of concrete infrastructure. Minimizing the expenses associated with repairing these issues has led to the development of self-repairing concrete. This paper investigates how the inclusion of Papaya Bast Fiber (PBF) influences the self-healing capabilities of cement-based composites. The weight percentages of replaced PBF and PSH in the mixture are 1%, 3%, and 5%. Tests for rebound hammer, compressive strength, flexural strength, water absorption, and density were conducted to assess the augmentation effect of physical and mechanical performance of PBF and PSH materials, and an investigation of self-healing capabilities was conducted. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermometric analysis (TGA), and Brunauer- Emmett-Teller (BET) surface analysis tests were also performed. Moreover, Visual inspection will be instrumental in observing the healed cracks and evaluating the extent of crack closure. SHM-PBF shows an adequate performance in recovering the damages of the specimen, corresponding to a 37% (PSH1), 83% (PSH3) healing efficiency after 28 days, and 100% (PSH5) in just 14 days

School safety and emergency preparedness during flash flood

    No full text
This study aims to understand how the Teachers in Carmen National High School handle the challenges during flash flood. We have seven (7) participants for in-depth interview (IDI). This study used the qualitative phenomenological approach to acquire significant insights on how the Teachers perceived their experiences of having any difficulties during flash flood. Furthermore, the study conclusion show's Dealing with a disaster while ensuring the life safety of school administrators, teachers, and students, as well as prioritizing education is considered now as one of the community’s major concerns. Due to the fact that both natural and man-made disasters have the potential to disrupt schools, it is important to delineate the disaster, such as flooding. With this regard, the main objective of this study was to evaluate the school safety and emergency preparedness during flash floods. Specifically, it aims to determine the teacher’s experiences and strategies during flash floods. Furthermore, this study also presents the insights and lesson gained by the researchers through the experiences and strategies during flash floods. These insights help us better understand the complexities of emergency preparedness, allowing decision-makers to make well-informed decisions that improve cooperative outcomes between respondents and disadvantaged communities

Perceptions towards phonetic notation in English language competence of Senior High School students in Um Peñaplata college

    No full text
The study aims to determine the significant relationship between perceptions of phonetic notation in English language competence of senior high school students at UM Peñaplata college. The study used a descriptive-correlational survey research design. The essential data were gathered from the 65 respondents using the validated adapted questionnaire. Data were analyzed and interpreted using mean and Pearson correlation coefficient (Pearson-r) as statistical tools. According to the findings, the level of perception towards phonetic notation among senior high school students is high, which indicates that students usually perceive phonetic notation as a helpful system for representing the sounds of spoken language through symbols. The result indicated that the phonetic notations were positively correlated with students' English language competence. Hence, based on these results, teachers are advised to introduce and use phonetic notation in the classroom, particularly for English pronunciation courses. Considering the results, students are encouraged to practice reading and writing phonetic transcriptions of words. It will enhance familiarity with phonetic symbols and improve pronunciation skills. Moreover, researchers may conduct a similar study with a broader knowledge of phonetic notation in English language competence

INTEGRATING TACK COAT AS AN ADMIXTURE FOR CONCRETE MIXTURE

    No full text
Undergraduate thesisTack coat has been widely used as an adhesive material due to its vital component in the integrity of pavements and as it is very inexpensive. However, the use of tack coat as a conventional binding agent is limited to pavement only. The work presented in this study explores the usage of tack coat as an admixture for concrete mixture and understands the effect by determining its physical properties and chemical components, such as Morphology by Scanning Electron Microscopy, Elemental Analysis using Energy Dispersive X-ray, and Compressive strength. The study adheres to American Standards and Testing Materials 192, C39, and C1723 standards in accumulating relevant results. Energy Dispersive X-ray testing is performed to consider the use of a substantial concrete mixture based on the impact of deposition on the biomaterial surface. Despite the parameters of the composition of the tack coat, it can be used as a hardening mixture and mitigate the micro-cracking of concrete. The concrete samples made with 10% and 20% tack coat concrete mixture reached the maximum compressive strength exceeding 94% of the standard strength, and for 25% tack coat concrete mixture increased by approximately 7% with 24 MPa at 21 days of curing. Proficiency of jargon used in DRRM: Basis for strengthening disaster management

    No full text
This study aims to identify proficiency levels in DRRM terminology across 37 barangays, utilizing a structured survey method to collect data. A quantitative survey method was employed to collect data from 37 barangays, using 20 items including five jargon words each related to fire, flood, earthquake, and health. The research focuses on identifying and addressing gaps in the proficiency level of disaster risk reduction and management terminology among local officials in Panabo City, Davao Del Norte. The results showed an overall error rate of 61%, indicating a below-standard performance in DRRM. The study found that the frequency of errors and their corresponding percentages to the various fire, flood, earthquake, and health common jargon words had overall error rates of 59%, 62%, 64%, and 60%, respectively. The study concludes that the proficiency of jargon used in DRRM is below standard, which may lead to ineffective communication and response during disasters. Therefore, the researchers recommend that DRRM members should undergo training and workshops on DRRM, incorporate daily practice of learned terminology, and participate in peer learning groups to improve their understanding and communication of technical terms
