Undergraduate thesisClimate change needs to be drastically reduced, and more needs to be done to help people adapt to it. Humanity is currently experiencing a climate emergency. In our time, it’s necessary that every one of us must do our part in climate mitigation and preserving a green environment. The abilities of young people to mitigate and, in particular, adapt to the changes brought about by climate change have not received much attention in studies up to this point. The complex climate change issues of mitigation and preservation are conceptually difficult for young people because climate change is not directly evidenced in their daily lives. This study focuses on looking at mitigation and green environmental preservation from the perspective of the students. Meaning-making coping strategies, enable the maintenance of green preservation and addressing potential issues that contributes to climate change. This thesis paper uses a quantitative method and is focused mainly on two variables: assessing criminology students of the University of Mindanao in mitigating climate change and preserving a green environment. A research sampling was done on 400 random respondents in the University of Mindanao, Matina Campus Davao City. The result shows that there is a significant relationship between the role of criminology students in mitigating climate change and preserving a green environment (r=.416, p<00.1). In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringEvery year, one million tons of waste glass are created worldwide; because it cannot decompose, it pollutes the environment. Nevertheless, because of its chemical composition, scrap glass is recommended for concrete production as a partial substitute for binding or filler (aggregate) materials. The usefulness of annealed glass as an additive for concrete finishing is investigated in this study. Using glass as an admixture material in construction may lessen the need for natural aggregates, allowing the environment to recover from extensive quarrying and preventing lasting harm. The study's findings significantly impact the construction industry. Glasses are broken up, sieved, and divided into fine and coarse particles. Mix proportioning uses ASTM standards, which call for nominal concrete mix proportions of 1:3 and 0.50 water-to-cement ratio. Different percentages are used to augment the amount of natural aggregates: 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%. The characteristics of glass and natural aggregates were examined in a lab setting. Every mixture has a 28-day curing period and five test samples. Each sample undergoes compressive and bond strength tests after the curing period. According to the compressive strength test, every mixture met the required minimum compressive strength of 1847.8 psi. Out of five mixtures, the results of the bond strength test indicate that two of the combinations achieved the minimum bond test strength of 365.617N or 26.16 psi. The mix with the maximum compressive strength (above 2081.3 psi) and bond strength (average of 377.49N) has the highest P-value of all the mixes, according to a statistical analysis of the results for both tests using the T-Test. As a result, 10% was the ideal proportion in both experiments for crushed annealed glass, which works well as an additive in concrete finishing

Undergraduate thesesThis study focuses on examining the performance of Madre de Cacao as wood fiber insulation board. Madre de Cacao is a fast-growing tree growing to various regions, including Davao City. The utilization of Madre de Cacao fiber has potential in providing environmentally friendly solution by using a renewable resource that would otherwise go to waste or rejected. A natural fiber is derived from the Madre de Cacao tree, scientifically known as Gliricidia Sepium. This study aims to investigate the performance of Madre de Cacao fiber as a wood fiber insulation board specifically its’ thermal conductivity, thermal resistance, flammability, modulus of elasticity and rupture. Madre de Cacao are collected from the field. Barks are separated after cutting down the trees. Barks are soaked in a container for 3 weeks and washed thoroughly until the fibers are out and dried. In its dry state, the epoxy resin is poured gradually in a form of 150mm x 300mm x 8mm fiber board. There are 5 different mixtures (M-1, M-2, M-3, M-4, & M-5) comprising different amount of resin and fiber. The use of resin in the combination will produces a High-Density Fiber Board. Major qualities of an insulation board were tested to measure the performance of the Madre de Cacao Fiber Board. These tests include Thermal Conductivity Test (ASTM C411), Flammability Test (ASTM E84), Modulus of Elasticity, and Modulus of Rupture Test (ASTM C356). For thermal conductivity, a scaled room where 5 different mixture of Madre de Cacao Fiber insulation, PE insulation is applied and the other room is un insulation has become a way measure the differences in temperature. Temperatures are recorded between 12PM-1PM and 3PM-4PM. M-3 has the lowest recorded temperature among the 5 mixtures. the Results showed that the room insulated with Madre de Cacao Fiber has a lower temperature than the PE Insulation. For flammability, 5 samples are exposed to fire for 1 minute. Weight loss and burned areas are tallied. The results from M1 to M5 are 22.96, 26.24, 29.52, 45.92, and 78.72. Only M5 has reached Class C which mean this mixture can ignite fire and spread fast. For Modulus of Elasticity, the 5 samples carried a loading bar with 4.5kg increment and deformation are recorded. M-4 and M-5 have MOE of 2.4GPa and 1.8GPa and fails to meet ISO 8335-1987 standard while the rest passed of the mixture have passed. For Modulus of Rupture, 5 samples were taken to QSTI for compressive strength test. All the mixtures have satisfied ISO 8335-1987 standard. Among the five mixtures. M-3 is the most optimum and recommended mixture. Therefore, Madre v de Cacao Fiber can be recognized as an effective alternative for wood fiber insulation board.
