    This research studies the current IIUM Rectory Building's Grand Staircase Archway and the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (SHAS) masjid's upper courtyard as a development project. The development project objective is to propose a design that will make IIUM's main staircase the primary access and circulation to the rectory building and the SHAS masjid's upper courtyard. The research commences by identifying pertinent design issues of the two (2) areas and eventually proceeds with the proposed design to enhance the function and features of the areas. The concept and philosophy of the design are based on the mission and vision of IIUM to reflect the institution's seven (7) values. The architectural aspects of this project are infused in the design that manifests the SDG goals' aspirations appropriate to the physical environment of the IIUM campus. The design proposal as the research outcome exhibits a welcoming and people-friendly design that reflects the multicultural value of IIUM

    Re-vitalization of Al-Ghazali Road and SHAS Mosque Lower Courtyard project is conducted to mitigate the flood and create genus loci for Al-Ghazali Road, located in the IIUM Gombak Campus. The project consists of three parts: the walkway, courtyard and backyard. The design of the architectural elements adopted the traditional Malay architecture of the state of Pahang.     Public spacesare spaces used by all individuals living in the city. For this reason, these areas must be capable of meeting the needs of all user profiles in society. Public buildings, parks, squares, streets, avenues and boulevards are the main urban public spaces. Squares, boulevards and streets are among the most important and dynamic elements of public spaces. These elements connect public spaces and structures, providing access to individuals living in the city, interaction and communication between individuals and make complementary and flexible interventions in public spaces, which are an integral part of the city identity that constantly changes depending on cultural and political changes in ensuring the sustainability of these areas. The literature focusing on the possibility of creating livable and lively spaces with intervention tools recommended by Habermas (2004) and Arendt (2006) presents urban acupuncture as a solution method proposed by Rubió (2008), Hoogduyn (2014), Casanova (2014), Casagrande (2015), Jooshani & Polat (2019) and Nassar (2021). This study aims to develop Gu?mu??suyu Park in Istanbul, Turkey, as a living part of the city again. In this study, the urban acupuncture approach was used to improve the unused area in Gu?mu??suyu Park. The data for the study were collected through observations made during field trips and presented as visuals and documents. Problem definition and visualisation methods were used in the presentation format. The ideas put forward for Gu?mu??suyu Park will become a part of the park's life and a breathing space for people living there or those passing by

    ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS OF TRADITIONAL MALAY BUILDINGS IN GOMBAK DISTRICT, SELANGOR

    Traditional Malay buildings are rooted in history and represent the local identity, beliefs, and culture of the area. Each building is often associated with a specific state. However, in Selangor, the architectural identity of traditional Malay buildings is relatively scarce and needs more explicit characteristic mapping. There are fifteen common decorative elements found in traditional Malay buildings across Malaysia, namely tunjuk langit, sisik naga, sulur bayung, ande-ande, papan pemeleh, kepala cicak, tiang gantung, kekisi, gerbang, gerbang pintu, sesiku keluang, kepala pintu, kepala tingkap, and pagar musang. The objective of this research is to identify the architectural decorative elements of traditional Malay houses and masjids in the Gombak district of Selangor. The research conducted on site observations of 39 traditional Malay buildings (34 houses and 5 masjids) from 13 villages in Gombak. The research identified eight common architectural elements in Gombak's traditional Malay houses and masjids. These architectural elements add to the aesthetic theory and philosophy of traditional Malay houses and masjids in Selangor and should be preserved

    This project intends to rejuvenate the grand archway of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), which encompasses the main staircase, the rectory building, and the mosque courtyard. These places are interconnected and meant for transitional pathways between the rectory building and other parts of IIUM. In this project, processes to harmonise the exterior and interior design of the sites were explored. The process bridged the gap between the characteristics of Islamic architecture and holistic human experiences. The main design characters of the site are preserved but give a new breath to the overall appeal and versatility of operation in the areas. First, the current conditions of the sites were analysed. Then, a design concept that would increase accessibility, functionality, aesthetic appeal, cost-efficiency, historical preservation, productivity, security and safety, and sustainability was envisioned

    THE ROLE OF WORKING DRAWING IN THE FIELD OF APPLIED ARTS

    The ability to draw has been present in us throughout human evolution. The terms “drawing” and “sketching” involves many different types and styles of mark-making; these are connections of abstraction in the form of an idea extrapolated to a reality-based outcome of its usages and applications. In the visual world of fine and applied arts, drafting, digital computational drawings, and exploration drawings are developed based on the application of the conscious mind alongside observation, translating this idea and the physical reality. With a single stroke, one can either construct the composition of a painting, develop new solutions, or solve essential problems. This paper seeks to examine and discuss the role of working drawings and their application in today’s environment. A selection of working drawings from the design field and visual fine arts are used as case studies for further dialogue and analysis. Science, as well as the arts, has relied on some form of drawings. These drawings function as evidence to create artistic beauty and/or further thrust the human mind into unknown fields. Thus, this process is fundamental and necessary at two primary levels: understanding its functions and respecting it as an integral part of the design concept process. s a result, artists and designers would want to be seen as intellectuals and philosophers with an agenda of functionalism and not as simple medieval craftsmen

    ENDEAVOR TOWARDS 2035: SELANGOR STATE STRUCTURE PLAN

    Selangor is the most developed state in Malaysia. The state thrives on the balance of progressive economic growth with its carrying capacity and social inclusivity. The process of preparing a State Structure Plan following the manual of state structure plan stated in the PlanMalaysia 2020 Edition is to propose a new development idea and direction for Selangor State Structure Plan based on the current key of complex issues. The proposals and design of the selected district for the planning period between 2021 and 2035 are developed. The study was conducted as part of the Urban and Regional Planning student’s studio work, which consists of the plan’s process, stages followed by the situation and sectoralbased analysis. The study proposed finger and linear development concepts, strategies, high-impact projects, implementation plans, and estimations of the cost of each major project. The proposed plan of the Selangor State Structure Plan 2035 promotes three (3) development thrusts, five (5) strategies, and twelve (12) high-impact projects for Selangor to thrive in its new development plan. The project provides experiential learning for the students as part of their training as futureurban and regional planners

    MALAYBIM LIBRARY: WEB-BASED PLATFORM DATABASE FOR HISTORICAL MALAY BUILDINGS

    This article aims to promote utilising the MalayBIM library as a newly developed web-based platform of digitalised historical Malay buildings. The article focuses on the growing interest in cultural-based BIM libraries and the process and the interface of the developed MalayBIM library. The research has two (2) objectives: to digitalise historical Malay buildings using BIM and design a web-based platform (library) for the digitalised historical Malay buildings. This explorative research has successfully modelled ten (10) historical Malay buildings and 201 components using the BIM approach utilising Autodesk Revit software. The outcome is the MalayBIM library, which is a collection of historical Malay buildings that have been modelled into the BIM environment. The output can be utilised by students, educators and designers. The main four features of this product are its easy convertible mechanism from low to high heels and vice versa, insole padding for extra comfort, safe heel structure, and elegant standard shoe design. The product's goal is to provide the user with total comfort and satisfaction without compromising the product design's aesthetic aspect. A working person usually has a daily routine from choosing breakfast to choosing the outfit and transportation. Therefore, most working women wear heels daily to suit the work environment. This phenomenon creates a perception of women wearing heels to work daily despite their discomfort. However, history has shown that women have willingly worn them, and it is not easy to imagine women not wearing them. Thus, heels will not beeliminated in new working women's shoes. Therefore, the VAVVA project research focused on making heels easier and user-friendly, less painful and more functional for working women
