YOUTHOPIA: DEVELOPING AN IMMERSIVE REALM FOR IR 4.0 DIGITAL COMMUNITY AT JALAN COCHRANE, KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
Get PDFIn line with the 4th Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), this design research seeks to develop a speculative immersive architectural realm for the digital community at Jalan Cochrane, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Named YOUTHOPIA, this architectural design proposal-a Digital Community Centre is a solution for youth to equip themselves with the digital skill set and for the government to develop future talents. The research has three (3) objectives: to create awareness and knowledge of IR4.0 in the youth community to speed up thedigital transformation, to design the required spaces and adequate facilities for digital edutainment, and to establish a platform for the youth community to upskill and produce future talents. The youth reportedly have difficulties adapting to the rapid digital transformations in IR 4.0. due to the absence of training facilities and the lack of exposure in the current educational system. Hence, the development of "Youthopia" as an architectural solution could enhance the community centre's functions in the future. Using the immersive technology of Extended Reality (XR), the users of "Youthopia" would come and experience an immersive realm with the manifestations of the digital and physical spaces. This design facility encompasses virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) to make learning an entertaining endeavor. Hence, this architectural design proposal provides inclusive edutainment spaces in time for Industrial Revolution 4 (IR4.0) transformation
X-HAUSTIVE: AN INNOVATION OF STORAGE SYSTEM FOR PRESERVATION OF TEXTILE COLLECTIONS
Get PDFThis study focuses on the designing of a storage system for a full set of Malay traditional costume consisting of headgear, clothes, samping, and accessories. Malay traditional costume has a historical value that need to be preserved well for the future generations. The aim of the study is to innovate an existing storage system to a new design that will save space in the storage room. Data is collected via internet research and other reliable sources to gain as much information about the storage system. Face-to-face interview session with Department of Museums Malaysia was conducted with experienced staff member in managing the storage system for the textile collections. At the same time, visual analysis was conducted by making observations on the existing storage system availablein museum and in the market. The data obtained was analyzed to be included in the stage of designing a product. The selection of materials and shape were also considered in order to avoid the collection being damage and deteriorate. Enamel metal was proposed to be used as a material for structure of the storage system. Other than that,polyethene foam, acid-free paper and metal rod also used for this new design of storage system
PLACEMAKING : A DECENT NEW HOME FOR THE INTERNALLY DISPLACED SYRIANS AT BUFFER ZONE, SYRIA
Get PDFDisplacement is a global phenomenon; the causes of displacement vary between violence and natural disasters. Syria remains the world’s largest refugee crisis, having multi-displacement due to several effects such as armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights, or natural or human-made disasters, especially for the IDSP who moved to the North. This research presents a set of speculations for making a decent new home for internally displaced Syrian people forced to flee to North Syria (IDSP). Under the theme of placemaking, this study emphasizes the need to consider the limited available means to survive a decent life under the harsh weather of summer and winter. The other major problem is that the IDSP is economically handicapped. The thesis project aims to propose a prototype decent new home for the IDSP where they can self-sustain by having a proper home to work, live in, and socialize. The project aims to provide passive earth-sheltered houses with vegetable gardens, communal co-op, and seasonal shared farmland, besides having main facilities of the communal masjid with a rescue area and marketplace. This project highlights the suitability of replacing indecent homes with proper decent and passive homes by applying the strategy of earth-sheltered architecture and underground structure to preserve the house heat and coolness throughout the year, which can be a perfect solution for IDP worldwide

This project aims to redesign the International Islamic University Malaysia, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (IIUM, SHAS) Mosque’s lower floor courtyard and the road along the Al-Ghazali Walk. The selected concept for this project is ‘Iqtisad of Diversity’, which means to create a harmony of diversity in terms of the built environment and cultures found in IIUM. The idea was to elaborate on the concept of Imam Al-Ghazali in the design.

Penchala is an area within the Malay reserve land adjacent to the traditional Malay village with the potential to develop. The DPR contains a detailed proposal, layout plan and comprehensive report for development in Kampung Sungai Penchala, Mukim Batu, Kuala Lumpur. According to section 19(1) Act 172, every development shall obtain planning permission before its commencement.Section 21A (1) Act 172 explains that the Development Proposal Report (DPR) needs to be submitted to obtain permission for the planning process. Site visits, discussions with relevant authorities, interviews with the local community and on-site data collection were conducted. The data gathered were analysed. As an output, a complete proposal report consisting of the detailed development proposal, layout plan and comprehensive information, i.e. the Development Proposal Report (DPR),were produced

Get PDFThe State Structure Plan (SSP) is a document that prepares a planning framework that guides and controls the physical development of the state, as required by the Town and Country Planning Act of 1976 (Act 172). The study area is in Selangor state, located on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. This study adopts the state of Selangor's structure plan preparation process in line with PLANMalaysia's Manual. The development concept proposed in the plan is "Polycentric Development Corridor," defined as more than one economic centre interconnected. Four new industrial corridors along the ECRL railway, four new command centers, and conservation in the ESA zone are proposed under the development concept. The study proposed three development thrusts with 15 policies. From the policies, 12 high-impact projects are proposed for the state of Selangor

COMPORT : REDEVELOPMENT OF KUALA BESUT TERMINAL AS COMMUNITY HUB IN TERENGGANU
Get PDFBesut district located in the state of Terengganu on the East coast of Peninsula Malaysia which is rich in cultural heritage and various tourist attractions. However, the district's tourism sector has yet to reach its development potential. The town, Kuala Besut, is just a tourist route for those who want to get to Perhentian island. Tourists bypassed the town's innate attractions. From the survey, three issues were identified. The first issue is the lackadaisical state of the boat terminal facilities, such as restaurants, seating areas, toilets, and parking. The second issue is the seasonal business, where vendors at the terminal can only operate during the dry season. The third issue is the need for more opportunities to promote the art and cultural products of Kuala Besut at the tourist prong jetty. Therefore, the thesis aims to redevelop Kuala Besut terminal, which can solve all three issues architecturally. The objective of the study is to design appropriate terminal facilities, spaces for vendors and spaces for art and cultural products promotion. The research methodology used for this study is the qualitative method using literature reviews, case studies and interviews for brief formulation and site studies for context. The study's findings create an architectural solution for the three issues and help to boost Kuala Besut's local economy and tourism industry
