Get PDFThe project presents the design proposal for Auto-City Theme Park, which focuses on planning and designing a unique interchange spot. Auto-City is located in Juru, Penang. The design proposal is focusing on Phase 3. It is strategically located as it is next to North-South Highway. Since the site is located at commercial area and surrounded by automobile trade centre, it will offer great opportunities for a motor-centric event that can serve the car enthusiasts. However, some issues arise at the area of Auto-City that need to be addressed by the proposal, such as high in carbon emission, less green space and loss of natural heritage. Though there are many potentials to be further enhanced, several issues need to be resolved for better environmental quality. The suggested development approach relates to its physical condition, taking advantage of Sungai Muar that lies in the middle of the town. Thus, the riverfront development is recommended with many improved elements of urban design to elevate the image of the urban heritage of Bandar Maharani. MOVAA - A MOBILE FASHION TRUCKS
Get PDFStreet market plays a significant role in the Malaysian’s economy. The street markets reflect a piece of the unique Malaysian culture for they portray the buying and eating preferences, interaction patterns and leisure activities among various ethnic groups. Nevertheless, street market vendors face many challenges such as safety and cleanliness of their stalls, the confusing legal and regulatory aspects, and many more. Today, as the truck vendors are getting popular in Malaysia, it is an opportunity for street vendors to explore various advantages offered by businesses using trucks. This research aims to develop Mobile Fashion Trucks. There are three (3) objectives of this study, to identify existing elements that needed for the mobile vendor in apparel retail, to study the existing spatial layout for vendors’ truck, and to identify the user preference on features for a display area in the vendors’ truck. Three methods are adopted to achieve the above-set objectives; 1) lineup study on existing mobile fashion trucks; 2) checklist on the spatial layout of the truck, and 3) questionnaire survey. The findings are that three (3) elements are required to upgrade for a mobile fashion truck: (i) exterior (fast set-up), (ii) interior (spatial layout) and (iii) display features. For many years, cartoon and animation encounter many issues regarding their approaches, methods and impacts. Four main issues have been identified to affect this industry, namely stigma (social), misuse (ethical), lost identity (cultural) and downfall industry (economic). Based on various studies and research, these problems can be overcome by 4E Approaches; Exposure, Education, Establishment and Enhancement, which leads to the components of the program: institutional academy and production studio. The objectives of the study are to rectify the perception of the public towards acceptance of cartoon and animation, to educate both cartoonists and public to treat cartoon and animation the right way, to revive local identity in promoting culture and elevate the cartoon industry for intellectual property purposes

The distribution of many historical buildings such as Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar, Muar High School, and Muar District Court, reflecting the influence of colonial architecture adds to its colourful and vibrant image of an old town. CONNECTIVITY to MALAY HERITAGE
Get PDFA multi-disciplinary team of lecturers and students from various departments of the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Gombak was given a project to conduct a study and proposed a masterplan to promote the Malay Enclave Teaching Lab (METL). The masterplan should comprise of 4 plots for the Cultural and Natural Heritage Living Laboratory (GCHL). The project aims to ensure that the laboratory offers plenty of learning opportunities for the future generation in appreciating Gombak Cultural Heritage through its surrounding, facilities and activities within site. The Malays have always been known for its unique traditional Malay houses. Each of the houses’ architectural design and features vary according to each state in Malaysia. Despite the differences, these houses share the same basic characteristics and its underlying principles. The objectives of the project are, firstly to review and understand the architectural elements of traditional Malay houses and heritage in Malaysia; and secondly to propose the different types of the gazebo on the site. Methods of data collection for this project uses a qualitative approach through content analysis and case studies method by literature review on traditional Malay houses in Malaysia. The analysis is done on five of the traditional Malay houses of Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Kedah. The outcome of the project study highlighted connectivity and similarities among traditional Malay houses from the five different states through architectural design, materials and features, including outdoor spaces structures such as wakaf. In conclusion, the end products are manifested in the forms of gazebo built in each plot with other street furniture (bench, table, streetlight, dustbin and signage) showing its connectivity to one another. This project covers works from masterplanning, design of the gazebo and other facilities from the inception to working drawings.

URBAN POOR IN THE INFORMAL SECTOR OF GAZÄ°ANTEP, TURKEY
No full textThe poor or people who were close to the poverty line, built 'slums' to meet their shelter needs- the basic needs of humanity. They turned to the informal,in other words, shadow sectors, due to their livelihood concerns and lack of employment. Reasons such as rapid population growth, intensive migration,inter-regional development difference, and high unemployment rates bring about urban poverty and push people to the informal sector. The informalsector hides unemployment rather than preventing it. In this article, the informal sector and the problem of urban poverty in Gaziantep Turkey are focussed. Aquestionnaire was conducted among the targetted population to understand the social and spatial dimensions of the problem. Upon observations, in-depthinterviews and surveys as part of the studies, an urban transformation project was proposed in Güneş neighbourhood -where urban poverty and informalsector are most significant. With this project, it will be possible to ensure that the urban poor, who were formerly excluded from social and urban life, will livein better quality housing areas and have access to social-cultural activities.
