Before entering these waters, one must ask oneself about the scope of "thinking", the proposed objects, the cognitive supports available. Then, it is necessary to fix some of the meanings of "modernity" within a sea of definitions more and more increased. Finally, to determine that "the Dominican country" is only an enunciation that serves to give way to a myriad of objects and subjects, of discourses and power relations, but without carrying a totalizing vocation.Este título es todo un riesgo. ¿Pensar la modernidad en el país dominicano? Tengo que diseccionar cada concepto, lanzar anclas a realidades y construcciones, a supuestos y algunas certezas. Antes de entrar en estas aguas debe uno preguntarse sobre los alcances del "pensar", los objetos propuestos, los soportes cognoscitivos que se disponen. Within these lines, the historical aspect has been essential. Ours is a people that likes history. Each year the ineffable José Rafael Lantigua registers the best-selling Dominican books and the history books are usually at the top, but that eagerness of the scarce Dominican reading public for history is generally of an indiscriminate nature: almost everything is read as Manuel Núñez and Róberto Cassá coexist.
El pensamiento conservador dominicano tiene una continuidad, se pueden trazar sus líneas y se puede seguir su devenir histórico. Desde el ataque de Bobadilla y Santana a la empresa liberal duartiana hasta nuestros días de reivindicación de Joaquín Balaguer y su doctrina política. Dentro de estas líneas, la vertiente histórica ha sido de primordial. El nuestro es un pueblo que gusta de la historia (cada año el inefable José Rafael Lantigua registra los libros dominicanos más vendidos y los de historia suelen estar a la cabeza, pero ese afán del escaso público lector dominicano por la historia, es generalmente de carácter indiscriminado: se lee casi todo, así conviven Manuel Núñez y Róberto Cassá
