Dynamic Mechanical And Water Absorption Properties Of Microcrystalline Cellulose Reinforced Polypropylene Composites: The Effect Of Unconventional Irradiation Route
The unconventional electron beam (EB) irradiation route in preparing microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) fiber reinforced recycled polypropylene (rPP) composites was studied. In this route, the rPP was first subjected to EB irradiation at various doses (10-50kGy) and was then used as a compatibilizer. Unirradiated and irradiated rPPs were blended at two different ratios (90:10; 50:50) and added with MCC at contents of 5, 20 and 40wt%. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and water absorption tests were carried out. The DMA spectra exhibited high stiffness and damping behaviour. As the content of MCC increased, the water resistance of composites dropped slightly as compared to the controlled rPP. However, some compositions (50:50/40MCC-10kGy and 50:50/5MCC-50kGy) had shown opposite results. The improvement in the studied properties proved the existence of the compatibility effect that occurred at low irradiation doses, and also depended on the ratio (unirradiated and irradiated rPP) and MCC contents.
ABSTRAK: Kaedah sinaran gelombang elektron secara bukan konvensional dalam penyediaan komposit polipropilena kitar semula (rPP) bersama serat selulosa mikrohablur (MCC) telah dikaji. Dalam kaedah ini, rPP telah didedahkan kepada sinaran gelombang elektron dengan dos yang berbeza (10-50kGy) dan kemudiannya digunakan sebagai penserasi. rPP tidak tersinar dan tersinar telah dicampur dengan nisbah (90:10; 50:50) dan ditambah dengan MCC pada kandungan 5, 20 and 40wt%. Analisis dinamik mekanikal (DMA) dan ujian penyerapan air telah dijalankan. Spektrum DMA menunjukkan sifat kekakuan dan pengenduran yang tinggi. Apabila kandungan MCC bertambah, kerintangan komposit terhadap air berkurang sedikit berbanding rPP terkawal. Bagaimanapun sebahagian komposisi (50:50/40MCC-10kGy and 50:50/5MCC-50kGy) telah menunjukkan keputusan sebaliknya. Penambahbaikan sifat bahan dalam kajian ini membuktikan kewujudan kesan keserasian yang berlaku pada dos sinaran rendah, dan juga bergantung kepada nisbah (rPP tidak tersinar dan tersinar) dan kandungan MCC.  
MAGNETICALLY INDUCED PIEZOELECTRIC ENERGY HARVESTER VIA HYBRID KINETIC MOTION
ABSTRACT: Piezoelectric energy harvesting is a possible breakthrough to reduce the global issue of electronic waste as they can efficiently convert the ambient vibration to the electrical energy without any additional power. This work presents the design and development of a piezoelectric energy harvester that is capable of transforming vibration from ambient sources into electricity. It focuses on a magnetically plucked piezoelectric beam as an alternative to the mechanically induced harvesters, as the latter are subjected to wear and tear. A prototype comprising of a 40 mm PZT-5H piezoelectric beam with a permanent magnet mounted at one end of the beam, as well as a series of permanent magnets of same types attached on an eccentric rotor was developed along with a National Instruments® data acquisition device. Mean output voltages of 2.98 V, 1.76 V and 0.34 V were recorded when the eccentric rotors were slowly rotated at 8.4 rad/s with increasing distances of 5 mm, 7.5 mm and 10 mm respectively, between the magnets on the rotor and the beam. These results have proven that voltage could also be generated by magnetically plucking the piezoelectric beam, and by reducing the distance between magnets, the amount of voltage generated will be higher. The outcome of this work signifies the possibility for implementation of energy harvesters that are capable of powering electronic devices from hybrid kinetic motion, with a reduced risk of equipment fatigue.
ABSTRAK: Penjanaan tenaga melalui piezoelektrik adalah satu penemuan terbesar dalam mengurangkan isu global pengurusan sisa elektronik. Ini kerana ia berupaya mengubah getaran persekitaran kepada tenaga elektrik tanpa sebarang tambahan tenaga. Kajian ini berkenaan reka bentuk dan pembangunan penjana tenaga piezoelektrik yang mampu mengubah getaran persekitaran kepada elektrik. Fokus kajian adalah pada penjanaan tenaga secara magnetik dari bilah piezoelektrik sebagai alternatif kepada penjanaan mekanikal, kerana penjanaan tenaga secara mekanikal berisiko tinggi kepada kerosakan alat dalam jangkamasa panjang. Prototaip piezoelektrik PZT-5H yang berukuran 40 mm ini telah dilengkapi magnet kekal pada hujung bilah, serta satu siri magnet kekal jenis sama turut dipasang pada pemutar eksentrik bersama peranti pengambilan data National Instruments®. Secara purata, sebanyak 2.98 V, 1.76 V dan 0.34 V voltan output telah direkodkan ketika pemutar eksentrik berputar perlahan pada 8.4 rad/s dengan jarak tambahan antara magnet pemutar dan bilah piezoelektrik bersamaan 5 mm, 7.5 mm dan 10 mm, masing-masing. Keputusan menunjukkan tenaga dapat dihasilkan dengan cara pemacuan piezoelektrik secara magnetik, dan tenaga yang terhasil akan bertambah dengan pengurangan jarak antara magnet. Hasil kerja menunjukkan tenaga dapat dihasilkan daripada gerakan kinetik hibrid, dengan risiko rendah pada kerosakan alat
IMPLEMENTATION OF GOVERNMENT ASSET MANAGEMENT USING TERRESTRIAL LASER SCANNER (TLS) AS PART OF BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING (BIM)
Building asset management is a system for organizing building assets in order to provide information to support decision making. One part of asset management is the inventory of building assets. Asset inventory can be done based on Building Information Modelling (BIM). BIM is one of the approaches to look at the building as a large unified database that can provide different information. The research case is theinventory of local government assets, especially state university assets because in Indonesia, state university assets belong to local government assets. The first step of local government asset inventory is to do three-dimensional modelling using a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) assisted by Autodesk Revit. A textual database is created which contains the location code and item code on the asset referring to the Regulation of theMinister of the Home Affairs Number 108 Year 2016 on the Classification and Codification of Regional Property. The database is directly integrated with the threedimensional model of the building. By doing these two things, there will be a building asset management process that is integrated with BIM and can be used to plan assetdevelopment. ABSTRAK: Pengurusan aset bangunan adalah sistem untuk menganjurkan aset bangunan untuk memberikan maklumat untuk menyokong pengambilan keputusan. Satu bahagian pengurusan aset adalah inventori aset bangunan. Penyediaan aset boleh dilakukan berdasarkan Pemodelan Maklumat Bangunan (BIM). BIM adalah salah satu pendekatan untuk melihat bangunan sebagai pangkalan data bersatu yang besar yang dapat memberikan maklumat yang berbeza. Kes penyelidikan adalah untuk inventori aset kerajaan tempatan, terutamanya aset universiti negeri, kerana di Indonesia, aset universiti negeri adalah milik aset pemerintah daerah. Langkah pertama inventori aset kerajaan tempatan adalah melakukan pemodelan tiga dimensi menggunakan pengimbas laser bumi (TLS) yang dibantu oleh Autodesk Revit. Pangkalan data teks dicipta yangmengandungi kod lokasi dan kod item aset yang merujuk kepada Peraturan Menteri Dalam Negeri Nombor 108 Tahun 2016 tentang Klasifikasi dan Pengkodifikasi Harta Daerah. Pangkalan data secara langsung disepadukan dengan model tiga dimensi bangunan itu. Dengan melakukan dua perkara ini, akan membina proses pengurusan aset yang disatukan dengan BIM dan boleh digunakan untuk merancang pembangunan aset
FINITE ELEMENT SIMULATION OF MEMS PIEZOELECTRIC ENERGY SCAVENGER BASED ON PZT THIN FILM
Vibration energy harvesting has been progressively developed in the advancement of technology and widely used by a lot of researchers around the world. There is a very high demand for energy scavenging around the world due to it being cheaper in price, possibly miniaturized within a system, long lasting, and environmentally friendly. The conventional battery is hazardous to the environment and has a shorter operating lifespan. Therefore, ambient vibration energy serves as an alternative that can replace the battery because it can be integrated and compatible to micro-electromechanical systems. This paper presents the design and analysis of a MEMS piezoelectric energy harvester, which is a vibration energy harvesting type. The energy harvester was formed using Lead Zicronate Titanate (PZT-5A) as the piezoelectric thin film, silicon as the substrate layer and structural steel as the electrode layer. The resonance frequency will provide the maximum output power, maximum output voltage and maximum displacement of vibration. The operating mode also plays an important role to generate larger output voltage with less displacement of cantilever. Some designs also have been studied by varying height and length of piezoelectric materials. Hence, this project will demonstrate the simulation of a MEMS piezoelectric device for a low power electronic performance. Simulation results show PZT-5A piezoelectric energy with a length of 31 mm and height of 0.16 mm generates maximum output voltage of 7.435 V and maximum output power of 2.30 mW at the resonance frequency of 40 Hz.
ABSTRAK: Penuaian tenaga getaran telah berkembang secara pesat dalam kemajuan teknologi dan telah digunakan secara meluas oleh ramai penyelidik di seluruh dunia. Terdapat permintaan yang sangat tinggi di seluruh dunia terhadap penuaian tenaga kerana harganya yang lebih murah, bersaiz kecil dalam satu sistem, tahan lama dan mesra alam. Manakala, bateri konvensional adalah berbahaya bagi alam sekitar dan mempunyai jangka hayat yang lebih pendek. Oleh itu, getaran tenaga dari persekitaran lebih sesuai sebagai alternatif kepada bateri kerana ia mudah diintegrasikan dan serasi dengan sistem mikroelektromekanikal. Kertas kerja ini membentangkan reka bentuk dan analisis tenaga piezoelektrik MEMS iaitu salah satu jenis penuaian tenaga getaran. Penuai tenaga ini dibentuk menggunakan Lead Zicronate Titanate (PZT-5A) sebagai lapisan filem tipis piezoelektrik, silikon sebagai lapisan substrat dan keluli struktur sebagai lapisan elektrod. Frekuensi resonans akan memberikan hasil tenaga maksima, voltan tenaga maksima dan getaran jarak maksima. Mod pengendalian juga memainkan peranan penting bagi menghasilkan tenaga yang lebih besar. Reka bentuk yang mempunyai ketinggian dan panjang berlainan juga telah diuji dengan menggunakan bahan piezoelektrik yang sama. Oleh itu, projek ini akan menghasilkan simulasi piezoelektrik MEMS yang sesuai digunakan bagi alat elektronik berkuasa rendah. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan dengan panjang 31 mm dan ketinggian 0.16 mm, piezoelektrik PZT ini menghasilkan voltan maksima sebanyak 7.435 V dan tenaga output maksima 2.30 mW pada frekuensi resonans 40 Hz
THE ANALYSIS OF LIQUEFACTION PHENOMENON OF THE FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT USING SEISMIC MONITORING EQUIPMENT
ABSTRACT: Liquefaction phenomenon is generally caused by high dynamic vibrations in a very fast duration. This article investigated the behavior of dynamic vibrations caused by vehicles on the road. This study employed the HVSR (Horizontal Vertical Spectral Ratio) with an accelerometer. The result of dynamic vibration generated by the passing vehicle or the micro tremor / micro seismic vibration was recorded by seismic monitoring devices. This seismic monitoring equipment converted vibration into natural frequency (f0) and amplification (A0) using Geopsy software. The result of HVSR (Horizontal Vertical Spectral Ratio) was the soil vulnerability index (Kg). The results of this study indicated that the three parameters above were then analyzed with the assumption that if the amplification value (A0) was higher and associated with a lower natural frequency value (Æ’0) with a high vulnerability index (Kg), then the area had the potential liquefaction, with laboratory research results in the form of granular gradation testing as the supporting data. Therefore, the results of the analysis and the laboratory can concluded that the three research locations have the potential liquefaction.
ABSTRAK: Fenomena pececairan umumnya disebabkan oleh adanya getaran dinamik tinggi dalam tempoh yang sangat cepat. Artikel ini mengkaji fenomena getaran dinamik yang disebabkan oleh kenderaan di jalan raya. Kajian ini menggunakan HVSR (Nisbah Spektral Menegak Mendatar) dengan pecutan. Hasil getaran dinamik yang dihasilkan oleh kenderaan yang melalui atau gegaran mikro / mikro getaran seismik dicatatkan oleh alat pemantauan seismik. Peralatan pemantauan seismik ini mengubah getaran ke frekuensi semula jadi (f0) dan amplifikasi (A0) menggunakan perisian Geopsy. Hasil HVSR (Nisbah Spektral Vertikal Mendatar) adalah indeks kelemahan tanah (Kg). Keputusan kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa ketiga-tiga parameter di atas kemudian dianalisis dengan anggapan bahawa jika nilai amplifikasi (A0) lebih tinggi dan dikaitkan dengan nilai kekerapan semulajadi yang lebih rendah (Æ’0) dengan indeks kelemahan tinggi (Kg), maka kawasan mempunyai potensi pencairan, dengan hasil penyelidikan makmal berupa pengujian gradasi granular sebagai data pendukung. Oleh itu, hasil analisis dan makmal dapat menyimpulkan bahawa tiga lokasi penyelidikan mempunyai potensi adanya pececairan
LIFE CYCLE COST ANALYSIS OF A PBC PILOT PROJECT FOR ROAD IN INDONESIA
Implementation of Performance-based Contracts (PBC) for road maintenance in Indonesia still requires various studies, especially related to potential long-term cost efficiencies that can be achieved by the road agencies by shifting the application of traditional contracts to PBC. This study assesses the effectiveness of PBC compared to traditional contract implementation based on a case study on one of the PBC pilot projects in Indonesia. The effectiveness of the PBC reviews in terms of project life cycle cost efficiency was calculated. LCC calculations were conducted by considering the influence of the length of contracted road, the initial conditions of contracted road, and the duration of PBC project. The LCC calculation shows that the implementation of PBC generally has the potential to generate LCC efficiency compared to the traditional contract. This study also proved that the implementation of PBC can guarantee the performance of road services during multi-year contracts and also provide other benefits for the road agency and road users.
ABSTRAK: Pelaksanaan Kontrak Berasaskan Prestasi (PBC) bagi penyelenggaraan jalan di Indonesia masih memerlukan pelbagai kajian, terutama berkaitan potensi keberkesanan perbelanjaan jangka panjang yang dapat dicapai oleh pihak agensi jalan dengan mengalihkan penerapan kontrak tradisional ke PBC. Kajian ini menilai keberkesanan PBC berbanding dengan pelaksanaan kontrak tradisional berdasarkan kajian kes pada salah satu projek perintis PBC di Indonesia. Keberkesanan ulasan PBC ini adalah dari segi kecekapan kos kitaran hayat projek. Pengiraan LCC dilakukan dengan mempertimbangkan pengaruh panjang jalan yang dikontrak, keadaan awal jalan terkontrak, dan jangka waktu projek PBC. Pengiraan LCC menunjukkan bahawa pelaksanaan PBC secara amnya berpotensi untuk menghasilkan kecekapan LCC berbanding dengan kontrak tradisional. Kajian ini juga membuktikan bahawa pelaksanaan PBC dapat menjamin prestasi perkhidmatan jalan selama kontrak multi-tahun dan juga memberi manfaat lain untuk agensi jalan dan pengguna jalan raya
DESIGN OF WLAN AND WIMAX BAND REJECTION UTILIZING UWB PLANAR ANTENNA COMPRISING A SLIT IN THE CONDUCTOR PLANES
A compact and low profile ultra wideband planar antenna comprises dual notched-band characteristics for WIMAX and WLAN are presented. UWB communication system is allocated between 3.1 and 10.6GHz, which coexisted with the WLAN and WIMAX frequency bandwidths at 3.3 to 3.6GHz, and 5 to 6GHz, repsectively. The coexistence between multiple frequency bandwidths possibly can cause interference into the communication systems such as data loss and signal disruption. Thus, it is essential to eliminate the coexisted frequency bandwidhs from UWB spectrum. The UWB planar antenna is costructed with a radiator of an elliptical-shaped, and half-ground element which is subjected to suppress the frequency bandwidth for 3.3 to 3.7 and 5 to 6 GHz. Slits are engraved in the elliptical radiator and ground element by etching the conductor elements. Slit shapes are designed in simple and optimized to realize the maximum band notch characteristics. Slit placements are scrutinized and the band notch characteristics are determined. It is considered that the slit in the ground element and the elliptical radiator have stimulated the band notches frequency bandwidths for 3.3 to 3.7 and 5 to 6 GHz, respectively. The UWB planar antennas are compared with the reference antenna and the results are verified. Measured reflection coefficient S11 for band notch peaks at the WLAN and WIMAX frequency bandwidths are about -3.0 and -4.0 dB, respectively. Radiation pattern co-polarizations in the H- and E-plane are in omni- and bi-directional, respectively. Maximum gain G is located in the –z –axis and –x –axis in H- and E-plane in the frequency of interest. Surface currents are distributed in the slit areas. Slits in the elliptical radiator and the ground element are not substantially affect the UWB planar antenna overall performances.
ABSTRAK: Antena jalur lebar paling satah yang padat dan bersusuk rendah telah diperkenalkan dan terdiri daripada dua ciri lebar-takik bagi WIMAX dan WLAN. Sistem komunikasi UWB berada pada 3.1 dan 10.6GHz, bertindan dengan jalur lebar frekuensi WLAN dan WIMAX yang berada pada 3.3 hingga 3.6GHz, dan 5 hingga 6GHz, masing-masing. Sifat bertindan antara beberapa jalur lebar frekuensi mungkin akan menyebabkan gangguan pada sistem komunikasi seperti kehilangan data dan gangguan isyarat. Oleh itu, adalah penting bagi membuang jalur lebar frekuensi yang bertindan dengan spektrum UWB. Antena satah UWB telah dibina dengan radiator pemancar berbentuk elips, dan unsur separuh-bumi (lapisan asas) dibawah jalur lebar frekuensi pada 3.3 hingga 3.7 dan 5 hingga 6 GHz. Jalur celahan telah diukir pada radiator elips dan lapisan asas dengan mengukir unsur konduktor. Jalur celahan telah direka mudah dan dioptimumkan bagi mencapai jalur takik maksimum. Kedudukan jalur celahan diteliti dan ciri-diri jalur takik diperolehi. Jalur celahan pada lapisan asas dan radiator elips diperhatikan menyebabkan frekuensi jalur lebar takik sebanyak 3.3 hingga 3.7 dan 5 hingga 6 GHz, masing-masing. Antena satah UWB dibandingkan dengan antena rujukan dan dapatan kajian telah disahkan tidak mempengaruhi keputusan antena planar UWB dengan ketara. Ukuran pantulan pekali S11 yand diukur pada frekuensi jalur lebar takik WLAN and WIMAX adalah -3.0 dan -4.0 dB, masing-masing. Corak pancaran radiasi ko-polar pada satah H- dan E- adalah omni- dan bi-arah, masing-masing. Kekuatan isyarat maksima G berada di paksi –z dan –x pada satah H- dan E- pada frekuensi yang dipilih. Elektrik pada permukaan tersebar dalam kawasan jalur celahan. Celah radiator elips dan lapisan asas tidak mempengaruhi prestasi keseluruhan antena satah UWB.  
Radiation dose delivered by 125I, 103Pd and 131Cs and dose enhancement by gold nanoparticle (GNP) solution in prostate brachytherapy: a comparative analysis by Monte Carlo simulation
: The energy deposition and radiation dose from commonly used radioisotopes, 125I,103Pd, and 131Cs, used for brachytherapy of cancers is estimated using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. To enhance the dose, gold nanoparticle (GNP) solutions are injected into the tumor; this results in more effective and shorter therapy duration. It is thus important to estimate the dose enhancement factor (DEF) achievable by a radioisotope. The research presented in this paper thus focuses on a comparative analysis of radioisotopes. To estimate the radiation dose, the Monte Carlo N-particle code MCNP5 was used for a coupled photon-electron simulation of radiation transport from radiation emanating from seeds of radioisotopes implanted in the prostate at positions prescribed to deliver effective doses to the tumor while protecting neighbouring vital organs such as the rectum and urethra. The quantities tallied were the energy deposition (F6 tally) and the pulse heights (*F8 tally) in specified energy bins. The energy deposited in the tumor was used to estimate the absorbed dose to the prostate incorporating the transformations of the radioisotopes during decay. The absorbed dose was subsequently estimated for a GNP-tissue solution with a concentration of 25 mg Au/g of prostate tissue, modelled as a homogenous mixture. From the simulations, it was found that the lifetime absorbed dose is ~96 Gy from 98 seeds, each of 0.31 mCi, of 125I; ~102 Gy, from 115 seeds, each of 1.4 mCi, of 103Pd, and ~90 Gy from 131Cs seeds replacing 103Pd seeds of the same initial activity. The main advantage of 131Cs, over 125I and 103Pd, is observed in the larger dose rate (~26 cGy/hr) delivered initially i.e. in the first few days which is 1.5 and 5.7 times higher than that for 103Pd and 125I. The absorbed dose for 125I, 103Pd and 131Cs increases to ~245, ~130, ~187 Gy respectively with GNP-tissue solution of 25 mg Au/g tissue. From the analysis, it is found that while the lifetime absorbed dose of all three radioisotopes is of the same order, there are advantages in using 131Cs; these advantages are further quantified.
ABSTRAK: Pemendapan tenaga dan dos sinaran radiasi daripada radioisotop yang biasa digunakan, 125I,103Pd, dan 131Cs, digunakan bagi terapibraki kanser dianggar menggunakan simulasi Monte Carlo (MC). Bagi meningkatkan dos, larutan partikel nano emas (GNP) telah disuntik ke dalam tumor; ini lebih memberi kesan dan mengurangkan masa terapi. Oleh itu, adalah penting menganggar faktor dos penggalak (DEF) dapat dicapai dengan radioisotop. Kajian ini mengfokuskan pada analisis perbandingan radioisotop. Bagi menganggarkan dos radiasi, kod Monte Carlo N-partikel MCNP5 telah digunakan pada simulasi pasangan foton-elektron pengangkutan radiasi daripada pancaran radioaktif benih radioisotop yang ditanam dalam prostat pada posisi yang disebut bagi mencetuskan dos penghantaran yang berkesan pada sel tumor. Dalam masa sama melindungi organ penting seperti rektum dan uretra. Kuantiti diselaras dengan pemendapan tenaga (selaras F6) dan ketinggian denyut (selaras *F8) dalam aras tenaga sebenar. Tenaga yang dienap dalam sel tumor ini telah digunakan bagi menganggarkan dos serapan pada prostat dengan menggabungkan transformasi radioisotop ketika susutan. Dos yang diserap telah kemudiannya dianggarkan bagi larutan tisu-GNP dengan ketumpatan 25 mg Au/g tisu prostat, dimodelkan sebagai campuran homogen. Daripada simulasi, dapatan kajian menunjukkan dos diserap sebanyak ~96 Gy daripada 98 benih, setiap satu daripada 0.31 mCi, 125I; ~102 Gy, dari 115 benih, setiap 1.4 mCi, dari 103Pd, dan ~90 Gy daripada benih 131Cs menggantikan benih 103Pd pada pemulaan aktiviti yang sama. Keistimewaan utama adalah 131Cs, ke atas 125I dan 103Pd, telah dilihat dalam kadar dos lebih besar (~26 cGy/hr) dikeluarkan pada pemulaannya iaitu dalam beberapa hari pertama iaitu 1.5 dan 5.7 kali lebih tinggi daripada 103Pd dan 125I. Dos yang diserap pada 125I, 103Pd dan 131Cs bertambah kepada ~245, ~130, ~187 Gy masing-masing dengan larutan tisu-GNP sebanyak 25 mg Au/g tisu. Hasil analisis menunjukkan penyerapan seumur hidup dos diserap pada ketiga-ketiga radioisotop dalam aturan yang sama, ini adalah keistimewaan menggunakan 131Cs; keistimewaan ini akan terus diuji pada masa depan dan diukur kuantitinya

AIMS & SCOPE OF IIUMENGINEERING JOURNAL
The IIUM Engineering Journal, published biannually, is a carefully refereed international publication of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Contributions of high technical merit within the span of engineering disciplines; covering the main areas of engineering: Electrical and Computer Engineering; Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering; Automation and Mechatronics Engineering; Material and Chemical Engineering; Environmental and Civil Engineering; Biotechnology and Bioengineering; Engineering Mathematics and Physics; and Computer Science and Information Technology are considered for publication in this journal. Contributions from other areas of Engineering and Applied Science are also welcomed. The IIUM Engineering Journal publishes contributions under Regular papers, Invited review papers, Short communications, Technical notes, and Letters to the editor (with publication charge).

A MODIFIED MODEL BASED ON FLOWER POLLINATION ALGORITHM AND K-NEAREST NEIGHBOR FOR DIAGNOSING DISEASES
Exponential growth of medical data and recorded resources from patients with different diseases can be exploited to establish an optimal association between disease symptoms and diagnosis. The main issue in diagnosis is the variability of the features that can be attributed for particular diseases, since some of these features are not essential for the diagnosis and may even lead to a delay in diagnosis. For instance, diabetes, hepatitis, breast cancer, and heart disease, that express multitudes of clinical manifestations as symptoms, are among the diseases with higher morbidity rate. Timely diagnosis of such diseases can play a critical role in decreasing their effect on patients’ quality of life and on the costs of their treatment. Thanks to the large data set available, computer aided diagnosis can be an advanced option for early diagnosis of the diseases. In this paper, using a Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), a new method is suggested for diagnosis. The modified model can diagnose diseases more accurately by reducing the number of features. The main purpose of the modified model is that the Feature Selection (FS) should be done by FPA and data classification should be performed using KNN. The results showed higher efficiency of the modified model on diagnosis of diabetes, hepatitis, breast cancer, and heart diseases compared to the KNN models. ABSTRAK: Pertumbuhan eksponen dalam data perubatan dan sumber direkodkan daripada pesakit dengan penyakit berbeza boleh disalah guna bagi membentuk kebersamaan optimum antara simptom penyakit dan mengenal pasti gejala penyakit (diagnosis). Isu utama dalam diagnosis adalah kepelbagaian ciri yang dimiliki pada penyakit tertentu, sementara ciri-ciri ini tidak penting untuk didiagnosis dan boleh mengarah kepada penangguhan dalam diagnosis. Sebagai contoh, penyakit kencing manis, radang hati, barah payudara dan penyakit jantung, menunjukkan banyak klinikal simptom jelas dan merupakan penyakit tertinggi berlaku dalam masyarakat. Diagnosis tepat pada penyakit tersebut boleh memainkan peranan penting dalam mengurangkan kesan kualiti hidup dan kos rawatan pesakit. Terima kasih kepada set data yang banyak, diagnosis dengan bantuan komputer boleh menjadi pilihan maju menuju ke arah diagnosis awal kepada penyakit. Kertas ini menggunakan Algoritma Flower Pollination (FPA) dan K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), iaitu kaedah baru dicadangkan bagi diagnosis. Model yang diubah suai boleh mendiagnosis penyakit lebih tepat dengan mengurangkan bilangan ciri-ciri. Tujuan utama model yang diubah suai ini adalah bagi Pemilihan Ciri (FS) perlu dilakukan menggunakan FPA and pengkhususan data perlu dijalankan menggunakan KNN. Keputusan menunjukkan model yang diubah suai lebih cekap dalam mendiagnosis penyakit kencing manis, radang hati, barah payudara dan penyakit jantung berbanding model KNN
