Improvement of Student Attendance System for Recording Student Surface Body Temperature Based on Internet of Things
Student attendance is a system used for tracking student activity in school. Many methods are used to develop student attendance systems, such as Quick Response (QR) Code systems, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, fingerprint systems, and so on. The COVID-19 pandemic has driven technological development, especially in the student attendance system. Measuring human surface body temperature has become a protocol that must be done before entering school. Student attendance systems need to expand the function not only for attendance but also for monitoring student surface body temperature. This research aims to improve student attendance systems by adding surface body temperature measurements and recording during student presence. Recording data can be done by using the internet of things. Student presence data will be sent to school databases throughout the internet. This system uses RFID technology for student presence and a non-contact thermal sensor for temperature measurement. According to data research, non-contact thermal sensors provide a temperature reading with an average error of 1.69%, a minimum error value of 0.96%, and a maximum error value of 2.57% with a range error value of 0.35°C - 0.95°C. RFID test shows that the optimum distance for the system to read an RFID card is 0 - 2cm. The System also successfully sent presence data to the student school database through the internet. This study concludes that developed systems can track student attendance by recording the student\u27s surface body temperature while in presence. Further work will be focused on managing data networks if this system is used with many users in the school
BLDC Motor Drives with A Programmable Simplified C-Block to Generate Accurate Six-Step PWM Based on STM32 Microcontroller
This paper presents a digital implementation of a brushless direct current motor (BLDCM) drive with a six-step pulse width modulation (PWM) using a programmable simplified C-block based on the STM32 microcontroller. The implementation is conducted through the PSIM simulation platform, which is commonly used for power electronics and motor control. This approach combines the benefits of using a programmable simplified C-block for precise and flexible programming with the PWM concepts of the STM32 microcontroller. The PWM method used on the BLDCM drive is the unipolar upper PWM technique (H~PWM_L~ON). The performance of the PWM implementation is analyzed in detail, including the accuracy of the PWM generation using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), the gating of the IGBTs in the three-phase inverter, and the effect of the duty cycle on the BLDCM\u27s speed, phase voltage, and phase current
A Serious Game for Improving Reading Skill of Preschoolers
Nowadays, many games are made for educational or learning purposes. However, the unresolved challenge remains, and the perfect balance between the fun and learning aspects remains. This paper represents an effort toward such a challenge by way of game difficulty dynamization implementation in a game to improve preschoolers reading skills using Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment dan Procedural Content Generation. To measure the balance of fun and learning aspects in the game, experiments were conducted involving 32 preschoolers. The proposed game can generate 10.962 game content in various difficulties and balance the fun and learning aspects according to the enjoyment factor\u27s average value. Students could enjoy the game while significantly gaining an increase in the average reading skill, based on the t-test value and NGain value of 0.551
An evaluation of the implementation of study-from-home policy in senior high school during Covid-19 pandemic
The increase in Coronavirus Disease-19 in Indonesia has prompted the central and regional governments to issue a study-from-home (SFH) policy through the Minister of Education and Culture Circular Letter Number 4 of 2020. The policy aims to reduce activities in schools but uses a meaningful curriculum. The purpose of the evaluation is to see the SFH policy implementation related to teaching and learning activities. The collection of information and data, interviews, and group discussion forums were conducted through online meetings, including video conferencing and other social media. This policy implementation was analyzed in the aspects of context, input, process, and product. The study involved 2,862 respondents, consisting of 60 people from the Education Office, 284 school principals, 861 teachers, 677 students\u27 parents, and 980 students. Evaluation results for each aspect show that: (1) in terms of context, policymakers in the regions have followed up Governor\u27s decrees and the SFH program (78.33%); (2) in terms of input, schools have prepared 17% of infrastructure and the level of teacher ability is 41.64%; (3) in terms of process, 49.56% of learning is carried out online; and (4) in terms of product, 88% teachers have assessed learning outcomes. Thus, the SFH policy has been carried out optimally, but some learning factors are not going well due to limited cell phones, low teacher competence in using applications, and unavailability of the Internet network in some schools. The SFH implementation at the provincial government level has been carried out effectively and efficiently, but in schools, online learning is still found to be uneven
Developing a character assessment instrument based on the school culture
This study aims to develop an instrument that is valid and reliable to measure the character of junior high school students. The developed instrument is a character assessment based on the school culture, used to facilitate teachers and schools in assessing student characters. This study is development research. The trial subjects involved in this study were 128 grade VIII students of state junior high schools in Bantul. The developed instrument was validated for the content by experts. The construct validity was analyzed using the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and the reliability was estimated using the omega reliability formula by McDonald. The result of the study is a character assessment instrument comprising six aspects with 12 indicators and 22 statements. The developed instrument has fulfilled the validity and reliability requirements. The content validity acquired an Aiken index of 0.87, while the CFA test acquired a loading factor score of each item being valid with λ \u3e 0.5 and t-value \u3e1.96. The student character measurement fits the theorized model (χ2 = 230.719; (p) = 0.08; RMSEA = 0.040; and CFI = 0.964) and McDonald\u27s composite reliability estimation result 0.907. The score of students\u27 characters in the developing category were 63.3%, 18.8% for the early development category, 11.7% for the requiring assistance category, and 6.3% for the cultured categor
Evaluating ICT literacy: Physics ICT test based on Scratch Programming for high school students
The integration of various learning content is important in the education process to develop the multi-competences of graduates. This is a response to the Industrial Revolution 4.0. ICT helps graduates compete and master the competencies needed in various scientific fields, especially physics. Efforts to build ICT literacy in learning Physics must complete an evaluation tool containing comprehensive Physics content. The ICT literacy test instrument as an evaluation tool can be packaged with scratch programming activities to help uncover ICT literacy based on computational physics concepts. This study aims to develop an ICT literacy test instrument with physics content based on Scratch programming for middle-level students. This research is development research with a research stage adapted from the development stage by Borg and Gall, including (1) Potential and problem analysis; (2) Data collection; (3) Product design; (4) Design validation and design revision; (5) Product trial; (6) Analysis and reporting. The test subjects were 106 students. The Physics ICT questions were developed to consist of 20 questions. Based on the validity test, a total percentage of 85.33% is obtained with proper criteria. The reliability of the test is shown by the results of calculations with Alpha Cron of 0.716 high categories. Overall, the PICT test is feasible to be used as an ICT literacy test for Physics content
Evaluation of Bidikmisi scholarship program at state Islamic universities in Indonesia
This study raised the theme of evaluating the Bidikmisi scholarship program at State Islamic Universities in Indonesia with the CIPP Model approach. The Bidikmisi scholarship program is the government\u27s flagship program for outstanding students who are less able to meet the costs of higher education. This research is evaluation research focusing on four areas: context, input, process, and product evaluation. The research subjects were one managing director, three universities within the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, and 15 student informants who received the Bidikmisi scholarship. The results of the research on the evaluation of the Bidikmisi scholarship program show that (1) the context of the program is carried out in accordance with the technical instructions issued by the directorate of Islamic higher education related to the evaluation of the Bidikmisi scholarship program. (2) Evaluation of inputs is carried out by meeting the criteria considering starting from setting evaluation goals to the results of program evaluation, and program targets are high school graduates who have academic and non-academic achievements. (3) In the current process, the Bidikmisi scholarship program has been running for ten years with satisfactory results, and the selection is made openly and transparently. (4) The product of this program evaluation is policy improvement and service improvement to prospective scholarship recipients. The program manager must maintain its performance by improving program quality, achievement process, and control. Programs should focus on increasing resources by strengthening program recipients\u27 academic skills and knowledge
The evaluation of lecturer\u27s improvement programs through academic culture and services
This study evaluated the program to improve postgraduate lecturers\u27 performance at Muhammadiyah University Prof. Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA). This study used a mixed-method sequential explanatory design. The primary data were collected using questionnaires for lecturers, study program coordinators, and students. The primary data were presented by observations and interviews with the Director of UHAMKA Postgraduate. The data analysis was carried out using differential statistics to support the interview and documentation results. The most prominent result was the Institute\u27s concern for the lecturer problem, with the respondents\u27 answers showing strong concern (13%), concern (45.7%), and immediate concern (41.3%). The Institute\u27s concern for lecturer problems was not high. Therefore, it needs to be increased. This study implied the need to conduct a follow-up program by motivating lecturers without functional positions to be immediately concerned and collect the required documents
Rasch model for the need assessment instrument of academic guidance and counseling program in junior high school
Developing an instrument for the need for academic guidance and counseling topics is a strategic step to support the needs assessment carried out by guidance and counseling teachers and counselors in schools. The development of this instrument had been carried out by Arfalah using exploratory factor analysis. This study aims to analyze the instrument using the Rasch model. The research procedure began with collecting data from two integrated online needs assessments of academic guidance and counseling instruments. The content validity test involved six experts, and the field test involved 111 students from three junior high schools in Yogyakarta. Data were analyzed using Winsteps version 3.73 according to Fisher\u27s five criteria for a good instrument. The content validity test showed Aiken\u27s coefficient of 0.71, considered in the high category. Meanwhile, the results of the Rasch test showed the item response model. The analysis also indicated high reliability on both instruments above 0.90 and Cronbach\u27s alpha value of 0.98. Five items were decided to be maintained based on the misfit test explored. The accuracy and focus of the instruments in revealing the need for academic guidance and counseling topics for high school students indicated a number above 40% and a fairly good level of instrument contamination, which was below 10%
