Immunoglobulin E modulatory effect of individualised Homoeopathy in a child suffering from immunological, chronic spontaneous urticaria: A case report
Introduction: Urticaria is one of several immune-mediated diseases. It is very troublesome and hampers the quality of life significantly. Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is associated with red, oedematous, erythematous, raised and itchy wheals with or without angioedema. A serological marker such as immunoglobulin E (IgE) is raised in urticaria, which is one of the diagnostic criteria of urticaria. The successful treatment lies in the fact of controlling or immunomodulating the IgE level. As per available data, Homoeopathy is very effective for the management of urticaria by bringing down the serum IgE level within normal limits. Case Summary: A 10-year-old female child visited the outpatient department with the complaint of urticaria along with increased serum IgE level. In the first visit, all the symptoms, objective and subjective, were collected, followed by framing of the totality of symptoms and repertorisation. The anti-allergic medication before the visit was gradually tapered off. The MONARCH score of +7 proved the causal attribution between the medicine and the outcome in the patient. The eruption of urticarial rashes eventually stopped, and the IgE level was restored to normal range. This case study reveals a positive role of homoeopathic treatment in immune-mediated diseases such as urticaria
Benign prostatic hyperplasia treated with Staphysagria in LM potency: An evidence-based case report
Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-cancerous condition characterised by the enlargement of the prostate gland in men. When the prostate enlarges, it can press against the urethra and cause various urinary symptoms.
Case Summary: A 50-year-old man complained of unsatisfactory micturition, feeble urine flow, difficulty in initiating urine, dribbling at the end of urine and anxiety regarding his future and sensitivity to others’ opinions. The patient was diagnosed with BPH based on clinical presentation and the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS). After case taking, Staphysagria in LM potency was prescribed based on symptom presentation. Individualised homoeopathic medicine was selected, and the patient’s recovery was seen with ultrasonographic findings and a reduction in the IPSS. The Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homeopathy score of +9 indicated that clinical improvement was likely attributable to the homoeopathic treatment. This case study emphasises the necessity of urological management of BPH and recognising and incorporating psychological components for holistic patient care
Tinea cruris managed with a single dose of individualised homoeopathic medicine: A case report
Introduction: Tinea cruris is an infection of the skin over groins by a species of dermatophyte. It is a common ringworm infestation that affects the groin and is caused by Trichophyton rubrum, characterised by red, itchy erythematous plaques extending from the Groin and flexures onto the thighs, buttocks and perianal region of the skin. More than eight million people visit primary care physicians annually to treat tinea-related symptoms. Topical agents are the mainstay in conventional medicine. However, a holistic approach with Homoeopathy for treating tinea cruris can make a difference in terms of both cure and preventing relapse. Case Summary: A 30-year-old male presented with a ring-like red erythematous lesion on the buttocks and perianal region of skin with severe itching. The case was diagnosed clinically as tinea cruris. The patient was treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine Sulphur 1M in a single dose and followed up for 6 months. There was a complete disappearance of tinea cruris lesions, as documented as photographic evidence, without any adverse effects and recurrence of lesions in the follow-up period. In this case, the outcome and causal attribution of the changes were assessed using the Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy. The score was +10 showing the positive relationship between the intervention and the outcome. This case shows the positive role of individualised homoeopathic medicine in the management of tinea cruris
A case report of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in preschool children treated with individualised, constitutional homoeopathic medicine
Introduction: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neuropsychiatric disorder affecting children of all ages, including preschoolers, adolescents, and adults worldwide. ADHD patients often face challenges in academic and social settings. Notably, pre-school children are more likely to exhibit hyperactive-impulsive symptoms than school-age children. Research on treating pre-schoolers with ADHD is limited compared to older children. This case report demonstrates the treatment of ADHD in pre-schoolers using individualised homoeopathic remedies. Case Summary: A 4-year-old boy presented with a 2-year history of symptoms, such as restlessness, easy distractibility and aggressive behaviour. After assessing the case, the institute’s psychiatric consultant diagnosed it as ADHD, based on the DSM-5 criteria. The homoeopathic treatment with Medorrhinum 200C and 1M and Tarentula hispanica 200C resulted in improvement in his academic performance, interpersonal relationships, social interactions and behaviour, both at home and school. The ADHD Rating Scale score, also decreased gradually. The homoeopathic remedies were administered at monthly intervals for two years, and there was no symptom relapse after recovery. Further research with well-designed studies is needed to establish evidence for treating pre-school children with ADHD
Plantar warts treated with homoeopathic medicine Antimonium crudum: A case report
Introduction: Plantar warts are cutaneous lesions brought on by human papilloma virus infection. There is a range of alternative treatment available for it, including cryotherapy, chemical cauterisation, curettage, electrodessication and laser removal. However, a majority of these treatments can leave scars or may provide only temporary relief. Case Summary: A 19-year-old female presented with multiple, right-sided plantar warts and was successfully treated by a single, individualised homoeopathic medicine, Antimonium crudum 200C for two months. The improvement was assessed through photographs taken in subsequent follow-up visits. The case was monitored further for a period of six months without any recurrence. This case report indicates the possibility of a long-lasting cure with personalised homoeopathic care in cases of plantar warts
Homoeopathy in the treatment of tinea cruris and tinea corporis – A case series
Background: Dermatophytosis is a fungal infection affecting keratinised tissues such as the epidermis, hairs and nails. It is particularly prevalent in tropical regions due to favourable conditions for fungal growth, such as warmth and humidity. Dermatophytes metabolise keratin leading to various pathological clinical presentations, such as tinea pedis, tinea corporis and tinea cruris. Case reports, case series and studies published on treatment of tinea corporis add to the evidence-based effectiveness of Homoeopathy in treatment of the condition.
Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the therapeutic efficacy of individualised homoeopathic medicines in the clinical management of cases presented with tinea cruris and tinea corporis.
Methods: The present case series includes 26 cases of dermatophytosis. KOH mount test was used as the diagnostic tool for confirming tinea infection. Clinical Cure, Skindex-16 and Global Evaluation Response were the main outcome assessment tools. The causal relationship between intervention and outcome was assessed through MONARCH criteria.
Results: Out of 26 cases, nine cases (34%) experienced complete disappearance of lesions, 14 cases (53.8%) showed symptomatic improvement and progression of lesions was seen in three cases (11.5%). The collated data of these 26 cases showed a significant reduction in mean Clinical Cure Composite Score (pruritus, erythema and scaling) (p = 0.000) and Skindex-16 composite scores (p = 0.00) were observed.
Conclusion: This series provides evidence supporting the usefulness of Homoeopathy treatments for dermatophytosis, particularly tinea cruris and tinea corporis. Employing clinical assessments, standardised evaluation metrics and photographic documentation ensures a thorough and objective evaluation of treatment usefulness and patients’ quality of life
