Retrocerebellar arachnoid cyst treated by individualised homoeopathic medicine Calcarea phosphorica: A case report
Introduction: Arachnoid cysts are non-malignant malformations mainly relating to the arachnoid mater. Arachnoid cysts involving the posterior fossa are less common and are most often found in the cerebellopontine angle. Common presenting complaints include headache, visual disturbances, gait disturbances, and seizures.
Case Summary: This is a case of a 4-year-old male child with a retrocerebellar arachnoid cyst treated in the outpatient department of the National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata, India. The presenting complaints included trembling of the whole body since one year, which was completely resolved within 18 months of individualised homoeopathic treatment. The case was thoroughly analysed and treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine Calcarea phosphorica in LM potency as the main medicine, and Tuberculinum 10M as an anti-miasmatic medicine. Regular follow-ups were taken and the patient improved significantly both symptomatically as well as clinically, assessed by MRI. This case shows the true potential of individualised homoeopathic medicines in treating such rare cases
Primary infertility in a female due to ovarian endometrioma managed with homoeopathic medicine Pulsatilla – A case report
Background: Infertility is defined as the failure to achieve a natural pregnancy after 12 months of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. There are various factors influencing fertility in females, such as ovulatory disorders, endometriosis, pelvic adhesions, tubal blockage, other tubal/uterine abnormalities and hyperprolactinemia, among which endometriosis is the second most common cause of female infertility. Endometriomas are cystic lesions that stem from endometriosis. This case report explores the usefulness of individualised homoeopathic treatment in addressing primary infertility associated with ovarian endometrioma.
Case Summary: A 27-year-old woman with a history of laparoscopic cystectomy and three unsuccessful intrauterine insemination attempts sought homoeopathic intervention after experiencing a recurrence of ovarian endometrioma and inability to conceive for two years. Pulsatilla 200C was administered based on a comprehensive assessment of her symptoms, emphasising individual characteristics. Over a treatment period of two years, there was a gradual improvement in her symptoms, including a reduction in painful menstruation and normalisation of menstrual flow. She successfully conceived and delivered a healthy baby. The Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homeopathy score of +8 strongly indicates a causal attribution between the treatment and the outcome. This case highlights the potential of Homoeopathy as an alternative approach to addressing fertility issues associated with ovarian endometrioma. However, further research is warranted to establish the broader applicability of homoeopathic interventions in infertility management
Management of generalised anxiety disorder with homoeopathic medicine Calcarea carbonica in LM potency: A case report
Introduction: Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common mental health disorder that interferes with daily activities and the quality of life of people.
Case summary: A 38-year-old female patient presented with symptoms of anxiety along with marked fear of some impending misfortune, decreased socialisation and difficulty in managing her day-to-day work and family responsibilities for one year and six months. She was diagnosed with a case of generalised anxiety disorder as per the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision classification of psychiatric disorders. A detailed case taking and repertorisation was done as per homoeopathic principles. The patient was prescribed individualised homoeopathic medicine Calcarea carbonica in LM potency from LM 0/1 to LM 0/15. The case is being reported as per the HOM-CASE guidelines. The assessment of causal attribution was carried out using the Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homeopathy (MONARCH) inventory. The GAD-7 score of the patient improved from 18 to 3 in five months. Two months of subsequent follow-up on placebo did not show any relapse. This case report suggests that individualised homoeopathic treatment in LM potency can be useful for the management of GAD
Usefulness of homoeopathic medicine Lachesis mutus in treating cervical dystonia: A case report
Introduction: Cervical dystonia is a neurological disorder characterised by painful, involuntary muscular spasms affecting the neck and head. It is commonly of idiopathic origin and associated with a poor prognosis. Conventional management typically includes botulinum toxin administration or surgical interventions, which provide only partial relief and are often accompanied by symptom recurrence. Emerging evidence suggests that individualised homoeopathic treatment may offer superior efficacy in such cases. Case Summary: A 40-year-old male came to the clinic with pre-diagnosed condition of cervical dystonia for four years. Complete Repertory was utilised for remedy analysis and confirmation, which led to the prescription of Lachesis mutus in 200C potency. In the given case, neck stiffness, pain, involuntary spasmodic movements of the neck, voice tremors and emotional and physical generalities were the parameters for evaluating progress in the follow-ups. Causal attribution was determined using the MONARCH inventory, which scored 9, suggesting a positive causal attribution between the treatment and the outcome. The treatment outcomes revealed complete resolution of localised and systemic symptoms, alongside an overall improvement in the patient’s well-being. This case report highlights the potential of holistic homoeopathic treatment to address complex pathologies effectively. The findings emphasise that such cases can achieve cure through the administration of a well-indicated single remedy
LM potency of \u3ci\u3eCalcarea carbonica\u3c/i\u3e for individualised homoeopathic treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome: A case report
Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) stands as a prevalent and diverse endocrine disorder affecting women in their reproductive years. It manifests through various clinical symptoms such as oligo-anovulation, polycystic ovaries, and symptoms due to elevated serum androgen levels. Amidst the frequent side effects and limited long-term efficacy of conventional treatments, there is a growing interest in complementary therapies that can alleviate PCOS symptoms without adverse impacts. Homoeopathy, known for its individualised approach and success in treating various conditions, including PCOS, emerges as a hopeful solution. This case report aims to showcase the favourable results attained through individualised homoeopathic treatment not only in the PCOS symptoms but also the overall complaints of the patient. Case summary: A 25-year-old female visited the outpatient department of The Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal, India, with complaints of irregular and scanty menstrual cycles for the past two years. She was diagnosed with PCOS based on both clinical symptoms and ultrasonographic findings. An individualised homoeopathic remedy, Calcarea carbonica, was prescribed in fifty millesimal (LM) potency, taking into consideration the symptoms of both particular and general spheres. Follow-ups revealed gradual improvement. The remarkable clinical progress, along with a score of (+10) on the Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homeopathy (MONARCH) tool, highlights the usefulness of individualised homoeopathic medicine in improving the symptoms of PCOS
Adjunctive homoeopathic treatment of COVID-19-positive cases of geriatric age group – A case series
Introduction: The second wave of COVID-19 peaked during May 2021 and had a higher mortality and morbidity rates than the first wave. About 53% of people over 60 years of age died in India due to the pandemic by the end of July 2021. Cases Summary: Twenty reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction-confirmed COVID-19-positive patients belonging to the geriatric age group were successfully treated with Homoeopathy. Seventeen of these consulted through in-person visits at a long-term care facility (LTCF) for the elderly, and three cases belonged to the home-isolated category. Out of those treated, 14 had comorbidities, such as type II diabetes mellitus, hypertension, chronic lung disease, or psychiatric ailments. Seventeen patients in the LTCF were on Paracetamol and Azithromycin for five days before undergoing COVID-19 test. Homoeopathy was subsequently started for the seventeen patients of LTCF. Regular monitoring of SpO2 in 17 patients revealed SpO2 ≤95 during the initial days of treatment. The mean age of the patient population, comprising 15 females and 5 males, was 77 years. Out of the seventeen symptomatic patients, eight had cough, dyspnoea or nasal congestion, while the rest had headache, malaise, myalgia or diarrhoea. The average SpO2 reached 97 in the LTCF patients by the end of treatment. Arsenicum album, Nux vomica, Bryonia alba and Gelsemium sempervirens were the most commonly prescribed medicines. Notably, SpO2 declined in two patients on the second day of treatment and normalised with Carbo vegetabilis. The average time for recovery from the illness was 12 days. This case series suggests a positive role of Homoeopathy in treating COVID-19-positive cases in the geriatric population by providing symptomatic relief and improving disease outcome
Individualised homoeopathic treatment of paranoid schizophrenia with potentised Phosphorus – A case report
Background: Paranoid schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that affects approximately one percent of the world population, with devastating consequences for affected individuals and their families. Homoeopathy could be an effective alternative mode of treatment and can minimise the consequences of it. This case report aimed to highlight the significance of using only individualised homoeopathic medicines in the treatment of paranoid schizophrenia without conventional medicine. Case Summary: A 30-year-old male complained of someone controlling his mind, someone talking about him. He was suspicious of the food he was served, talked and laughed to himself and slept insufficiently. The case was diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenia by the psychiatrist. The severity of the disease was measured by the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and assessment of the positive symptoms was done by Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms (SAPS); the symptoms were recorded at the baseline and every month for the duration of 17 months, with the help of the psychiatrist. Phosphorus 30C was prescribed on the basis of individualisation. No homoeopathic aggravation was reported during the treatment. PANSS score of 84 at baseline reduced to 32 and SAPS score of 56 reduced to zero, within ten months of treatment and remained so for up to 17 months, including the period of observation. MONARCH score of +8 indicated a causal attribution of homoeopathic treatment to disease improvement
Role of Carcinosinum in managing Separation Anxiety Disorder in children: A case report
Introduction: Separation Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is a condition causing excessive and distressing anxiety about separating from home or loved ones. It starts in childhood or adolescence and continues into adulthood. Symptoms include constant worry about losing a parent or other loved one to an illness or disaster, constant fear that something bad will happen, refusing to be away from home due to fear of separation, reluctance to sleep without a parent or a loved one nearby and repeated nightmares about separation.
Case Summary: A 7-year-old boy presented with symptoms of anxiety when going to school, weeping before going to school, fear of being alone, always wanting his mother to be with him and episodes of vomiting whenever thinking of school for three years. The case was treated successfully with Carcinosinum in 200C and 1M potencies, with repetition as per requirement. After 14 months of treatment, the patient was asymptomatic. His quality of life improved, and the screening for child anxiety-related emotional disorders and screening questionnaire for child anxiety-related emotional disorders-parent, having baseline values of 12 and 13, respectively, dropped to 0 each by the end of the treatment. Treatment with individualised homoeopathic medicine was successful in a case of SAD in a child, showing a significant positive impact on the patient’s social and familial life with no negative implications
