Acute polymorphic psychotic disorder with symptoms of schizophrenia – A case report
Get PDFIntroduction: Acute polymorphic psychotic disorder (APPD) with symptoms of schizophrenia is a rare psychiatric presentation with a rapidly changing and variable clinical state. There is much scope to explore the effectiveness of homoeopathy in acute psychotic disorders. Due to the rarity of its presentation, a case of APPD managed with homoeopathic medicines is reported here. Case Summary: A 49-year-old female was brought in a restrained state due to disorganized behaviour, violent anger with hurting tendency, irrelevant talk, bizarre delusions, and markedly variable perceptual disturbances. The case was diagnosed as APPD with symptoms of schizophrenia and the improvement was assessed with the brief psychiatric rating scale (BPRS). The case was treated with homoeopathic medicines in the in-patient unit of the National Homoeopathy Research Institute in Mental Health, Kottayam. The BPRS score at baseline of 91 turned to 18 (normal) on the fifth day with Hyoscyamus 200 single dose and the patient was discharged with totally normal behaviour on the eighth day. The patient was given a dose of Aurum sulph 200 as a constitutional remedy in the 2nd week after discharge. The remedy was infrequently repeated during monthly visits for up to 1 year. There was no relapse of psychotic episodes and there was good psychosocial adaptation. Future research based on well-planned study designs is necessary to establish the evidence. The likelihood of causality between intervention and outcome has been discussed as per Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy
Homoeopathy in plantar psoriasis: An evidence-based case report
Get PDFIntroduction: Plantar psoriasis is a variant of psoriasis and accounts for 3–4% of total cases of psoriasis. Psoriasis, an autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disease of the skin, can leave the patient in agony with its distressing infection episodes. The homoeopathic system of medicine offers a wide range of medicines that can have a beneficial role in managing cases of psoriasis as depicted in the previous studies. Case summary: A distinct case of plantar psoriasis treated with homoeopathic remedies of ultra-high dilution has been presented here. The evidence-based illustrations were done before and after the treatment and the periodical objective assessment of the lesions with psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) calculation to ascertain the prognosis. The causal attribution of outcome to the treatment was evaluated using Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy (MONARCH) tool. Marked improvement was found in the psoriatic lesions evidenced photographically and the PASI scores showed significant reduction affirming the same. The MONARCH score (+9) suggested that the clinical improvement was likely attributable to the homoeopathic treatment. This evidence-based case report suggests a beneficial role of homoeopathy in the treatment of plantar psoriasis

Homoeopathy for Post COVID 19 illnesses: A Case Series
Get PDFIntroduction: As much as the prevention and treatment of COVID 19 has posed challenge, its post infection sequelae have not been any less challenging. There has been an emerging menace and concern for post COVID 19 illnesses. Patients with microbiological recovery from COVID‐19 show most common symptoms like fatigue, dyspnoea, cough, headache, tightness of chest, arthralgia, muscle pain with drop in the quality of life. Limited treatment options are available in the conventional set up. Cases summary: We present nine cases that were treated for post COVID 19 symptoms at Regional Research Institute (H.), Mumbai, under Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy. Out of these, seven cases were of acute Post Covid condition and two presented with Chronic Covid sequelae. All these patients were under standard conventional care/treatment but had no resolution of Post Covid symptoms. The Post Covid symptoms reported in these cases were fatigue, dyspnoea on exertion, cough, profuse perspiration, chest tightness and profuse perspiration. Bryonia Alba was the most useful remedy apart from Sulphur, Arsenicum Album, Rhus Toxicodendron and Calcarea Carbonicum. The cases have demonstrated a positive role of homoeopathic treatment in relieving the Post COVID illnesses
High-performance thin-layer chromatography fingerprinting and antioxidant study of Mangifera indica mother tincture
Get PDFBackground Mangifera indica is widely used in the Homoeopathy systems of medicine. In Homoeopathy, Mang. ind. is one of the indicated medicines for passive haemorrhages, uterine, renal and gastric problems. Mangiferin is a xanthanoid present in leaves, stalks barks, peel and kernel of the mango plant. Mangiferin has antioxidant, antiviral, anticancer, antidiabetic, antiaging, immunomodulatory, hepatoprotective and analgesic properties. Therefore in the current study, we have tried to identify mangiferin and its antioxidant properties in Mang. ind. homoeopathic mother tincture. Objective The aim of the present study wais to identify Mangiferin, Total Phenol Content (TPC) and Total Flavonoid Content (TFC) in Mang. ind. homoeopathic mother tincture. Materials and Methods Mangiferin (A) was used as a primary reference standard and in sample In-house prepared mother tincture (B) and two different market samples (C and D) were used. An authentic sample of Mang. ind. bark was received from the Centre of Medicinal Plants Research in Homoeopathy, Emerald, Tamil Nadu, India for preparation of in house mother tincture. Results We have successfully identified Mangiferin in Mang. ind. in-house prepared mother tincture (B) and two market samples (C and D) by HPTLC. Total Phenolic Content (TPC) and Total Flavonoid Content (TFC) was determined by Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy. Conclusion High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography study confirms the presence of Mangiferin whereas U. V spectroscopy proves to be a useful tool for in-vitro antioxidant assay study
Usefulness of individualised homoeopathic medicine in Manic episode - A case report
Get PDFIntroduction: Mania is a form of mood disorder initially, characterised by elevated mood, insomnia, increased libido and grandiosity. More severe forms develop elation and grandiose delusions. Case Summary: A patient reported in the Out Patient Department with symptoms of increased delusions for 3 weeks. The consultant psychiatrist diagnosed it as a case of bipolar affective disorder, current episode manic with psychotic features. Young mania rating scale (YMRS) scored 38 at the time of admission. Lachesis mutus 200 was prescribed initially and later Lycopodium clavatum 200 was prescribed, as the symptom picture changed. Overall improvement was noticed clinically and in YMRS after treatment. In this case, individualised homoeopathic treatment has shown a positive role for the remission of manic episode with psychotic features without the support adjunctive therapy or conventional medication in the current episode
Homoeopathy for management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in a patient of major depressive disorder - A case report
Get PDFIntroduction: Major depressive disorder in diabetic individuals represents a multifactorial phenomenon resulting from interactions between biological and psychosocial factors, which may intensify the probability of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in otherwise healthy individuals. Case Summary: A case of T2DM is reported in a 38-year-old woman suffering from major depressive disorder who was treated successfully with individualised homoeopathic medicines. The patient reported to the Lifestyle Disorders clinic of Homoeopathic Hospital, Noida, with recently diagnosed diabetes of 8 months. After individualised homoeopathic treatment, the patient\u27s fasting plasma glucose, postprandial glucose, HbA1c levels, fasting plasma insulin and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score were reduced within 6 months. The findings in this case report are encouraging and provide evidence in supporting the effectiveness of individualised Homoeopathy in reducing hyperglycaemia in a patient with major depressive disorder
Active principle in potentised medicines: Nanoparticle versus quantum domain – An overview
Get PDFBackground: The fact that homoeopathic medicines act even at very high dilutions has created a confusion amongst scientists. This led to different models such as formation of nanoparticles and memory of water. The basic question \u27what is responsible for physiological activity of homoeopathic medicines\u27 is yet to be answered conclusively. Objective: The objective of this overview was to find out if formation of nanoparticles or creation of quantum domain in the medium is responsible for the physiological activity of homoeopathic medicines. Methods: This overview is based on the experiments done between 2004 and 2019. Results: The succussion of the medicine has the following effects: i. At high potency, due to the mechanical energy transferred to the system, the size of the substrate reduces to nanodimension increasing membrane permeability. Furthermore, they affect several electrical properties of an electroactive polymer and enhance thermovoltage generation. ii. In the presence of an ambient electromagnetic field, domains composed of the vehicular polar molecules are formed, which bear the signature of the dissolved solute. The domains are sources of quasi-free electrons which are manifested in voltage generation separating two different polar media. The structured water also explains the ultraviolet–visible (UV-Vis) spectra. Conclusion: In high potency, formation of nanoparticles explains the effect of homoeopathic medicines on properties such as permeability, electrical properties of polymers and thermovoltage generation, whereas formation of domains in the vehicle medium explains properties such as voltage generation separating two different polar media and UV-Vis spectra
