    Combined measurements of Higgs boson couplings in proton–proton collisions at 13 TeV

    Combined measurements of the production and decay rates of the Higgs boson, as well as its couplings to vector bosons and fermions, are presented. The analysis uses the LHC proton-proton collision data set recorded with the CMS detector in 2016 at fb-1. The combination is based on analyses targeting the five main Higgs boson production mechanisms (gluon fusion, vector boson fusion, and associated production with a W or Z boson, or a top quark-antiquark pair) and the following decay modes: H, ZZ, WW, , bb, and . Searches for invisible Higgs boson decays are also considered. The best-fit ratio of the signal yield to the standard model expectation is measured to be =1.17 +/- 0.10, assuming a Higgs boson mass of 125.09. Additional results are given for various assumptions on the scaling behavior of the production and decay modes, including generic parametrizations based on ratios of cross sections and branching fractions or couplings. The results are compatible with the standard model predictions in all parametrizations considered.     The Impact of Aversive Advice During Percutaneous Coronary Intervention on Smoking Cessation in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome

    Background: Smoking cessation is important to prevent recurrence of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), but even in patients with ACS, smoking is hard to quit. Objectives: This study hypothesized that aversive advice during the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedure works effectively to promote smoking cessation in patients with ACS. Methods: This study was conducted as a prospective, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial. A total of 66 patients were randomly assigned to an aversive advice group or a control group and instructed to visit the outpatient clinic 1, 4, and 24 weeks after discharge. In the aversive advice group, a physician who did not participate in the patient follow-up said the following 3 sentences to the patients during the PCI procedure: "Smoking caused your chest pain"; "If you do not stop smoking right now, this pain will come again"; and "The next time you feel this pain you will probably die." All patients received usual advice on the importance of quitting smoking. Results: At 24 weeks after discharge, the smoking cessation rate was higher in the aversive advice group than in the control group. In a multivariable logistic regression analysis, after adjustment for age, smoking quantity, alcohol consumption, and disease severity, the result was maintained (odds ratio = 4.47, 95% confidence interval: 1.50 to 13.34). Conclusions: Aversive advice during a PCI procedure is effective at smoking cessation in patients with ACS. A physician's attention and involvement during the PCI procedure improves the rate of smoking cessation in patients with ACS

    Improved fast charging capability of graphite anodes via amorphous Al2O3 coating for high power lithium ion batteries

    Fast charging capability is a high demand feature of lithium ion batteries used in electric vehicles; however, current lithium ion battery technology does not meet electric vehicles fast charging requirements. In this work, it demonstrates that surface modification of graphite using amorphous Al2O3 is an efficient way to improve the fast charging capability of graphite anode materials for lithium ion batteries. Surface-engineered graphite with 1 wt % Al2O3 exhibits a reversible capacity of about 337.1 mAh g(-1), even at a high rate of 4000 mA g(-1), corresponding to 97.2% of the capacity obtained at a current density of 100 mA g(-1). Full cell tests adopting LiCoO2 cathodes and Al2O3-coated graphite anodes confirm that the introduction of amorphous Al2O3 can improve the fast charging capability of graphite anode materials. Wettability tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis reveal that this fast charging improvement results from the increased electrolyte wettability on the graphite that is induced by the Al2O3 layer on its surface.     Advantageous crystalline–amorphous phase boundary for enhanced electrochemical water oxidation

    The development of cost-effective and high-performance electrocatalysts for water oxidation has attracted intense research interest. It was reported recently that the interface between the amorphous and crystalline phases plays a significant role in the electrocatalytic activity of transition metal compounds. It was reckoned therefore that an increase in the density of the crystalline-amorphous phase boundary would enhance the electrochemical water oxidation on the catalyst. In this work we develop a new and facile strategy for inducing high density crystalline-amorphous phase boundaries via selective fluorination surface doping. This resulted in excellent characteristics of the engineered material for electrochemical water splitting. An initial computational simulation is carried out to design the crystalline-amorphous phase boundary material and an experimental verification follows for demonstration and optimization of the impact of surface doping. We conclude that the engineering of the interface using this facile and cost-effective strategy maximizes the crystalline and amorphous phases of metal-metalloids, which can be used to fabricate low-cost and efficient electrocatalysts for water oxidation.This work was supported by "Human Resources Program in Energy Technology'' of the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP), granted financial resource from the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy, Republic of Korea (No. 20194010201890).     Efficacy and safety of mycophenolate mofetil and tacrolimus combination therapy in patients with lupus nephritis: a nationwide multicentre study

    Objective Recent studies have shown that a combination treatment of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and tacrolimus (TAC) may be an option for lupus nephritis (LN) patients that do not adequately respond to initial treatment. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of the combination treatment of MMF and TAC in LN patients with suboptimal response to prior MMF or TAC treatments. Methods In this multicentre study, we retrospectively enrolled 62 patients with class III, IV, or V LN who inadequately responded to MMF or TAC treatment. Those patients were then treated with a combination of MMF and TAC for 6 months. The primary outcome was complete remission (CR) at 6 months, and secondary outcomes included overall response and adverse events. Results After 6 months of treatment with the drug combination, CR was achieved in 14 of 62 patients (22.6%), and 35 (56.5%) patients responded. A significant reduction in proteinuria and lupus disease activity score was observable after 3 months. After 1 year, the CR rate increased to.36.4% (20 of 55 patients), and the overall response rate (n=38, 69.1%) also increased from 6 months. Twenty-one patients reported 29 adverse events, including severe infection requiring hospitalisation (n=3, 10.3%), infection not requiring hospitalisation (n=2, 6.9% ), and herpes zoster (n=4, 13.8%). Conclusion Our findings suggest that a combined MMF and TAC treatment, with a favourable adverse-event profile, may be a beneficial option for LN patients with inadequate response to either MMF or TAC treatments.This work was supported by Astellas Pharma Korea, Inc

For this we discussed the importance of publicity.     Study of the Concept of Justification in Teaching Rational Communication

    Rapid technological advancements have changed how we all communicate, including how and where we express our opinions. In a democratic society, various opinions must be respected, and this requires rational communication. This study researched the concept of justification as applied to teaching rational communication in Korean language education; justification is the action of demonstrating that something is right or reasonable. We began with the assumption that it is necessary to treat justification as an important agenda in any communication education based on rationality. We critically examined the perspectives of argumentation and rationality education as they are handled currently in Korean language education. Next, we dealt with justification as the principle of procedural rationality acquisition. Procedural rationality means that subjectivity and mutual subjectivity acquire rationality through justification. We then dealt with justification as a social praxis principle; social praxis is the acquisition of rationality through behavioral exchange among members of the community. Finally, we dealt with the application of Korean language pedagogy to justification studies. The results suggest that the justification as the principle of procedural rationality acquisition and social praxis is a useful concept for teaching rational communication.     Depressive Disorder in Thyroid Cancer Patients after Thyroidectomy: A Longitudinal Follow-up Study Using a National Cohort.

    Objective The present study compared the frequency of depressive disorder in patients with thyroid cancer who had undergone thyroidectomy with the frequency in control individuals. Study Design Retrospective population-based cohort study. Setting This study used data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Sample Cohort. Subject and Methods A total of 3609 participants with thyroid cancer who had undergone thyroidectomy between 2003 and 2011 were enrolled in this study and matched 1:4 with 14,436 control participants by age, sex, income, and region of residence. The cumulative incidence of postoperative depressive disorder was evaluated over a period of 10 years after the thyroidectomies and compared with the incidence in controls. Depressive disorder was diagnosed by a psychiatrist. Results The incidence of depressive disorder was significantly higher in the thyroid cancer with thyroidectomy group than in the controls up to postoperative year 1. A subgroup analysis showed the same higher incidence of depressive disorder in the thyroid cancer group than controls for up to 1 year after operations in young adult (<= 44 years old), female, urban, and low-income groups. However, the incidence was elevated only in the year of the thyroidectomies themselves in middle-aged and older, rural, and high-income groups. Conclusion Patients with thyroid cancer who undergo thyroidectomy have depressive disorder more frequently than normal controls. However, the frequency of depressive disorder after thyroidectomy recovers in a shorter period in middle-aged or older, high-income, and rural-dwelling patients, compared to younger, low-income, and urban-dwelling patients.This work was supported by a National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) grant funded by the Korean government (MSIP; Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning) (No. NRF-2017R1C1B5076033).
