Level of knowledge about anaphylactic shock in students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Interamerican Open University
Introduction: Anaphylactic shock is a severe and unexpected allergic reaction that has a rapid onset and can even cause the death of the patient. Its rapid clinical diagnosis is of vital importance since it will involve the compromise of several important systems. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge about anaphylactic shock and its dental management by 4th and 5th year students of the Universidad Abierta Interamericana, School of Dentistry. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a 15-question survey. First, 4th year students were surveyed before they began the Clinical and Integrated Surgery of Adults and Geriatrics II course and then, 5th year students were surveyed during the break from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology course. Results: The average general knowledge of 4th and 5th year students is low since error rates are greater than 50%. As for the first-choice medication, a high rate of incorrect answers was observed, since they did not know which one it was, but they did know the correct route of administration. As for knowledge of the university protocols, the results were poor. Conclusions: most students are unaware of the existence of the university protocols for acting in cases of emergency, although on the other hand, in general, they are aware of the existence of the first aid kit to deal with emergencies
Baccetti method for assessing bone maturation: analysis from the perspective of science, technology, and society
Introduction: The Baccetti cervicovertebral evaluation method uses the cervical vertebrae to assess bone maturation using lateral cranial teleradiography, which is indicated for all patients attending an orthodontic consultation. This method eliminates the need for additional radiological examinations. Objective: To describe, from the perspective of science, technology, and society, the impact of the Baccetti method as a tool for orthodontic diagnosis. Methods: A bibliographic review was conducted of journals, books, theses, and original texts available at reference centers such as the Library of the Faculty of Stomatology of Havana and digitally through Google Scholar. Development: The Baccetti method is effective due to its simplicity and high correlation with other existing methods. Its use also allows for savings in resource planning, a very important aspect of economic and organizational management. Its use avoids the need for additional radiographic studies and increases the effectiveness of scientific research. Conclusions: The Baccetti method as a diagnostic tool constitutes a social practice that provides the orthodontist with knowledge, skill, and an instrument that improves the quality of patient care, makes it possible to organize resources and distribute them equitably by avoiding unnecessary radiographic studies, with the aim of integrating an individual into society without stable aesthetic and functional impairments over time

Biosafety in stomatology
Biosafety is a doctrine of behaviors aimed at achieving attitudes and behaviors that reduce the risk of transmission of microorganisms in Public Health services, becoming a public health problem when the principles established by it are not complied with. In Stomatology, it is vital to achieve quality in the services; however, the attention given to it in the services is insufficient. The objective of this study was to explain the importance of biosafety within the work environment in stomatological services. The documentary analysis method was used and a total of 40 bibliographies were reviewed. The data served as support to develop considerations and reflections in relation to the subject, exposing aspects of daily practice to be taken into account in order to rescue it. A quality work environment for patients and providers contributes to the excellence and efficiency of the health system
Breastfeeding, Oral Habits, and Malocclusions in Children Aged 3 to 6 Years
Introduction: Breastfeeding is one of the fundamental principles for promoting health and preventing diseases. Objective: To determine the impact of breastfeeding on the occurrence of deforming oral habits and malocclusions in children. Method: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted on children attending the "Hermanos Saiz" Stomatological Clinic in the municipality of San Juan y Martínez, Pinar del Río, from November 2023 to May 2024. Population: Children aged between 3 and 6 years. (N=125). Sample: Intentionally selected by expert criteria, including 75 patients based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Information was obtained from individual medical records, surveys, and patient information forms. Descriptive statistics were used, with results presented as absolute and percentage frequencies. Results: Combined breastfeeding predominated in 5-year-old female patients with a breastfeeding duration of 0 to 3 months associated with combined breastfeeding. The main deforming oral habits were mouth breathing and digital sucking during the breastfeeding period of 0 to 3 months. The most frequent malocclusions were open bites and mesial steps. Conclusions: Mixed breastfeeding conditioned the presence of deforming oral habits which, when combined with poor maxillary development, could lead to malocclusions. The relationship between the infant\u27s nutrition modality and malocclusions should continue to be studied constantly to provide more diagnostic and practical contributions
Comparison of tooth shade determination using two methods: visual and spectrophotometric
Introduction: Dental color determination is a crucial procedure in oral rehabilitation treatments, since with precision, aesthetically correct results will be achieved that fit the naturalness of the patient\u27s teeth. Thanks to technological advances, new tools have emerged, such as spectrophotometers, intraoral scanners, among others, which have significantly improved the way of carrying out this process. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of dental color determination with the visual method compared to the spectrophotometer. Methods: A descriptive and documentary study was carried out following a systematic bibliographic search of articles in the last 10 years, which were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The study compared the effectiveness of two methods to determine the color of teeth: visual and instrumental (with a spectrophotometer). The visual method, although traditional, presents high variability due to factors such as lighting, the observer\u27s experience and the individual perception of color. The spectrophotometer offers a more objective and reproducible measurement of color, as it is not influenced by external factors. Although both methods can achieve similar results in some cases, significant differences were generally observed in the selection of the dental shade. The spectrophotometer allows for the detection of more subtle color differences and offers greater consistency in the results. Conclusion: Dental shade measurement is more effective with a spectrophotometer, however, the authors recommend using the two methodologies together

Risk factors for premalignant lesions of the oral cavity in the Bernardo Posse Polyclinic
Introduction : Oral cancer represents a significant public health challenge due to its high morbidity and mortality, especially in populations with associated risk factors. This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with the purpose of identifying risk factors associated with premalignant lesions of the oral cavity in patients attended at the Bernardo Posse Polyclinic, Havana, between 2020 and 2024. The analysis included variables such as age, sex, anatomical location of the lesions and risk habits, such as smoking, alcoholism, inadequate diet and predisposing diseases. Early identification of these factors can contribute significantly to the prevention of oral cancer. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of 25 patients of both sexes with evident premalignant lesions in the buccomaxillofacial complex. The variables studied included age, sex, anatomical location of the lesions and risk factors (smoking, alcoholism, diet and predisposing diseases). Data were collected through surveys and clinical records, and descriptive statistical analyses were applied to determine the absolute and relative frequencies of the variables. The sample was selected from the oral cancer registry of the Bernardo Posse Polyclinic. Results: The analysis showed that 40% of premalignant lesions were located on the tongue, this being the most affected anatomical site. The age group with the highest prevalence was 35-59 years, with a significant incidence of smoking (50%) and alcohol consumption (50%) as main risk factors. A higher proportion of female patients (56%) compared to male patients (44%) was observed, which differs from global trends in which men tend to be more affected. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of identifying risk factors associated with premalignant lesions in the oral cavity, such as smoking, alcoholism and inadequate dietary habits. The results underline the need to implement educational and prevention programs aimed at at-risk populations, especially in the age groups with the highest incidence, to improve early detection and reduce the prevalence of oral cancer. Comprehensive care and the promotion of healthy habits are essential to address this proble
Characterization of the physiologic tartaleo from the point of view logofoniátrico
Physiological staccato is the most common speech disorder in pediatric age. Its etiology is multifactorial. The diagnosis is based on a correct anamnesis and clinical examination. Despite the fact that a large number of cases resolve spontaneously, treatment should not be delayed for more than a year, because long-standing forms have a worse prognosis. A literature review was carried out, finding 35 articles in total, of which only 15 fulfilled the validity criterion in order to explain the evolution of a clinical case with physiological stagnation from the point of view of Logofoniatric rehabilitation. Physiological tartarus is considered one of the chronic logofoniatric diseases that occur more frequently in the child population, which shows that the family\u27s knowledge about the management and treatment of this condition in their children is still insufficient
Indications and decision making in single and multiple treatment of the anterior sector
Gingival recessions, characterized by apical displacement of the gingival margin and exposure of the root surface, pose both esthetic and functional challenges. This paper reviews the indications and decision making in the management of anterior gingival recessions, a crucial aspect in esthetic and restorative dentistry. Over the years, the evolution of mucogingival surgery towards periodontal plastic surgery has led to the development of various surgical techniques, such as connective tissue grafts and advanced coronal flaps. These techniques aim to provide effective and durable root coverage, adapting to the specific anatomical characteristics of each patient. The selection of the most appropriate surgical technique depends on a detailed evaluation of local anatomical factors and the patient\u27s esthetic expectations. While it is possible to maintain periodontal health with a minimal amount of keratinized gingiva, gingival recessions remain common, especially in individuals with thin periodontal phenotypes. An interdisciplinary approach is essential to ensure outcomes that optimize both periodontal health and esthetics in the long ter
