Mapping Turkish Crime Fiction
Crime Fiction is inaccurately argued to be a Western literary genre. Roots of Crime Fiction can be found in non-Western literature. Arguably, it is a global phenomenon that exists in ancient books. Turkish Crime Fiction specifically and Middle Eastern Crime Fiction broadly, remains one of the least studied literary genres. Scholastic research on Turkish Crime Fiction are very limited and this theme of academic enquiry offers challenging and interesting endeavours as it engages with complex and seemingly unrelated concepts like Sufism, nationalism, trauma, political identity and identity politics. This article is, thus, attempting to contribute to the existing scholarship on Crime Fiction broadly and Turkish Crime Fiction more specifically. It argues that Turkish Crime Fiction is more ancient than Western Crime Fiction which arguably emerged in the nineteenth century, and was advent by Edgar Allan Poe. In this article, it is suggested that Turkish Crime Fiction dates back to the pre-Islamic era, between the eighth and tenth centuries. It is further argued in this paper that Turkish Crime Fiction is unique in the sense that it engages with complex concepts that tackle paradoxical issues like the Kemalist-Islamist dichotomy, religion and secularism, and nationalism and politics. In addition, in the existing canon of Turkish Crime Fiction, Istanbul seems to act as a hub of Turkish Crime. The symbolic role of the location of this city is discussed at length in this article as it offers a window into understanding one of the major characteristics of Turkish Crime Fiction. These notions are explored using genealogical and analytical approaches. This article concludes that more research on Crime Fiction is needed, and that the relation between concepts of religion, secularism, modernity and nationalism ought to be explored in relation to Turkish Crime Fiction. Finally, this paper calls for more academic attention and research on Crime Fiction to liberate it from the classical classification of Crime Fiction as a sophisticated “means of entertainment”, and to clear it from being guilty of marketability literature
The present article attempts to examine online commentary as a discursive genre that has been profoundly transformed by the rise of the web, where the digital space becomes a site of direct expression, often marked by strong emotional intensity, a polemical tone, and at times even verbal violence. Through an analysis of the reactions sparked by a YouTube interview with Benjamin Stora—in which he discusses his report on the Algerian War—the author focuses in particular on the discourses and counter-discourses that emerge around the sensitive issues of repentance and non-repentance. These comments, posted by internet users in the video’s comment section, reveal a wide range of ideological positions and a great diversity of argumentative approaches. The central aim of this article is to identify and describe the types of arguments used by commenters, as well as the discursive strategies they employ to assert, justify, or challenge often opposing viewpoints. The study is situated within the field of argumentation in digital discourse, drawing on the theoretical framework proposed by Patrick Charaudeau, particularly his work on the discourse of repentance, as well as on the contributions of Marianne Doury concerning the typology of arguments and the construction of controversy.
Informal Distance Learning As An Aiding Tool In The Teaching-learning Process At Times Of Pandemics: An Exploratory Study Investigating The Use And Effect Of Social Media By Algerian Efl Teachers At The Level Of Secondary Schools.
As of late 2019, the emergence of the high speed spreading Corona Virus (Covid-19) which later turned into a pandemic forced everyone to stay home in a seemingly unending quarantine. As a result, a lot of outdoor activities that represented our daily routine had to stop including going to school. However, soon after this new situation occurred, a lot of countries started coping with it by providing what is called distance learning at all educational levels. In the Algerian educational context, the use of the online platform offered by the Ministry of Education actively increased among students, but the lack of live interaction with teachers and the situation where the student is forced to sit and only receive posed many flaws on the process and made it difficult to proceed with this form of learning. To overcome this problem, the excessive use of social media among kids and teenagers was put to use by many teachers. It was an alternative and a way of non-formal learning to make the EFL teaching-learning process very much easier and more flexible and fun. This exploratory study aims at measuring the extent to which teachers in secondary schools use social media and interactive apps in the EFL teaching context during both regular and exceptional times, how they are used and what outcomes are expected, the goals that are achieved and the obstacles that are faced. A mixed method of data gathering and analysis was adopted through distributing a questionnaire to a number of secondary school teachers in El Meghaier, Algeria. The results show that social media platforms are not fully benefited from as informal teaching tools. The reason is not due to teachers’ ignorance of how these tools work, but other concerns on the part of teachers
An Enunciation Study of T-aaiyat’s Deictics Abi Ishaq Al-Ilbiri
Through this research paper, we present a linguistic and phonetic study of the Ta’iyyah of Abu Ishaq al-Ilbiri, who died in 460 AH. He composed it before his death, that is, in the fifth century AH. This poem is also known as the Al-Ilbiri Poem, which is a poetic poem that encourages the pursuit of knowledge and the adoption of good morals. In it, we reveal a different point of view regarding the numerous explanations that preceded it throughout the ages, in order to explore the extended meanings contained in this text. Given the value of this system, scholars required students of knowledge to memorize it after explaining it to them. Our study resulted from the application of modern linguistic mechanisms in reading a heritage text that carries an important Islamic intellectual and cultural legacy, which still requires the attention of researchers. Our approach in this study is to apply the mechanisms of verbal linguistics to search for the meaning that resonates between the three elements "I, now, here" as the components of the theory of enunciation, and to consider the poem as a fabric that constitutes an ongoing, actual exchange between the two poles of communication: I and you. One of the most important findings we have uncovered is the poet\u27s striking use of the first person pronouns "I, you." The singular first person pronoun "I" appears in the poem as separate, connected, hidden, and integrated into the discourse. The referent of this pronoun throughout the poem is the poet. As for the second person pronoun "you," it appears in the poem as separate and connected, and the referent varies, sometimes to Abu Bakr, sometimes to the poet himself, and other times to the recipient in general. As for the absent pronouns in the poem, they are few, and they appear as connected, separate, and hidden, and their referent varies according to the context. The poem contains neutral temporal clues, so that the call for knowledge and righteousness is a message for humanity at all times. Spatial clues are absent, because the poet\u27s purpose is to preach, advise, and guide humanity in general. The verbal approach to the discourse signals in Al-Ilbiri’s Ta’iyyah revealed that the poet focused on these two pronouns, “I/you,” for the symbolism they contain in the exchange of roles in life by humans, regardless of their time and place. Sometimes they represent “I” and sometimes “you.”
This study explores a recurring problem that lies at the intersection of literature and anthropology: the persistent narrative trope in which punishment is reserved solely for women in stories of illegitimate or transgressive love. It questions why such a gendered and discriminatory sanction endures, even in literary spaces that are often assumed to challenge norms and celebrate freedom. The analysis begins with an inductive approach, surveying a variety of novels written by authors from diverse sociocultural contexts. Despite their differences, these works often reproduce the same structural cliché—the exclusive punishment of female lovers—highlighting a troubling and repeated narrative outcome. Special emphasis is placed on the specific nature of this pattern, particularly when contrasted with other love stories where male characters often evade similar consequences. Beyond identifying a recurring structural form, the article seeks to uncover the deeper symbolic and cultural significance behind this phenomenon. In its second phase, the study adopts a psychoanalytic lens, drawing on foundational theories by Freud, Lacan, and Julia Kristeva to interpret the repression of violence and its narrative expression through feminicide, viewed here as an ultimate outlet for societal anxieties. To address the complex ontological association of femininity with evil, the analysis is further enriched by key concepts from Michel Foucault’s philosophy and René Girard’s anthropology, particularly his theory of scapegoating. Ultimately, this article aims to shed light on the underlying forces behind what it terms the "feminization of ontological evil"—an enduring literary instinct that both reflects and reinforces deep-rooted cultural fears surrounding female autonomy and desire. This article explores a problem that is both literary and anthropological: the recurring narrative trope in which punishment falls solely on women in stories of illicit love. It examines why such a gendered sanction persists, especially in literary spaces that claim to push against limitations and promote freedom. Using an inductive approach, the study begins by surveying a range of novels from diverse sociocultural backgrounds, observing how the same pattern reappears—stories in which only the female lover is punished, often through death, exile, or disgrace. Particular attention is paid to the singularity of this narrative form compared to other types of love stories. Beyond identifying this structural pattern, the article seeks to uncover its deeper meaning. It argues that literature unintentionally perpetuates a cultural logic where women’s desire is met with disproportionate violence. To better understand this repression, a psychoanalytic reading is introduced, drawing on Freud, Lacan, and Julia Kristeva. This analysis reveals how literature can serve as an outlet for a collective unconscious that associates femininity with danger or moral disorder. Given the complexity of explaining the ontological association between femininity and evil, the study also turns to Michel Foucault’s philosophy and René Girard’s anthropological theory of scapegoating. These frameworks shed light on the cultural mechanisms that link female transgression to collective punishment. Ultimately, the article aims to expose the enduring myth of “the sinful woman” and to reflect on the obscure desire to feminize evil, a narrative instinct still deeply embedded in literary and cultural traditions
Towards Context Integration in Content Based Recommender System for Smart Tourism
Recommendation systems (RS) are now essential in various sectors of daily life, especially in tourism, where they assist tourists in making better choices about which points of interest (POIs) to visit. However, these RSs face a number of challenges, including the risk of a cold start when a new POI is taken into account, and the problem of tourist dissatisfaction with recommended POIs. To address these issues, we focused on Content-Based Recommendation Systems (CBRS) that mitigate the problem of data sparsity and integrate contextual information from tourists during their visits. In this paper, we refined tourist feedbacks using contextual variables like “time” and “companion” during the visit. Next, we implemented a CBRS using the vector representation of POIs with the Term Frequency/Inverse Term Frequency (TF/IDF) method to compute similarity between tourist profiles and POI characteristics. With this type of similarity, our system can run three variants of CBRS in parallel: the first ignores the tourist context, the second incorporates the “temporal context”, and the third takes into account the “companion context”. Finally, to compare these three recommendation variants, we used an online evaluation to calculate the Click Through Rate (CTR) metric. According to our initial experiments, the CBRS with the integration of temporal context outperforms the other two implemented RS

An Investigation Of The Practices Of Veterinarians And Breeders In The Prevalence Of Antibiotic Resistance In Poultry Farms In Algeria
The practices adopted by the breeder and the veterinarian are factors that influence resistance to antibiotics in poultry farms. The study aims to determine some of the applications of the veterinarian and the breeder. A survey was carried out among a group of 237 veterinarians in Algeria thanks to the interview and the online questionnaire. The pathologies affect the digestive system 37.87% and the respiratory system 35.95%. Respect the recent renewal of the litter 51.9%, food distribution conditions 51.48%, drinking water 45.15%, and ventilation 23.21%. Most veterinarians base their diagnosis on visual observation of symptoms and an autopsy. It only intervenes after a worsening of symptoms of 56.12%. The broad-spectrum antibiotic prescribed 56.54%. The case in which the first treatment was not effective 83.54%. The veterinarian is summoned more than once in the same herd 42.19% is that of 2 times per group. The treatment failure is resolved either by 28.27% prolongs the duration of treatment or by 20.68% increase the dose. The human causes of antibiotic resistance in broiler chickens were identified. Allowing to propose preventive measures, to manage and reduce the risks of antibiotic resistanc
The impact of the Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS) on the financial performance of Bahraini banks (2012-2021) - Standard Study –
This study aimed to highlight the impact of the Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS) on the financial performance indicators of Bahraini banks.
In order to achieve the objective of the study and test its hypotheses, a simple linear model was used as a standard statistical tool for applying statistical tests and selecting the most appropriate ones statistically.
The results of the standard study showed that the (RTGS) system has a positive impact on the financial performance indicators (NPLS, ROE) of Bahraini banks. The Real Time Gross Settlement System affects directly the Return on Equity (ROE) index, and affects indirectly the Non-Performing Loans (NPLS) index, i.e. reducing provisions for Non-Performing Loan risks and raising shareholder profits. As for its effect on the Liquidity Ratio (LR), it was indirectly negative compared to the fixed ratio (LR)
