    Get PDF
This work was designed to know the effect of starvation and refeeding on compensatory growth and changes in body crude composition in juvenile Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). There are four feeding regimens, which are C; feeding for 6 weeks (full-fed) for control treatment, S1; 2 weeks of fasting followed by 4 weeks starving, S3; 4 weeks of starving followed by 2 weeks feeding and S3; starving for 6 weeks(fully starved). S1 treatment had higher growth gain, SGR, FER and PER respectively than other treatments. The poorer values for compensatory growth were obtained in tilapia for S3 treatment. The moisture content in fish significantly decreased and the ash content significantly increased with increasing starvation period before re-feeding for third week and six-week experiment. The lipid content is significantly higher in S1 compare to S2 and S3 treatment for third week experiment. However, there is significantly increase in lipid content from third week experiment (3.79%) to sixth week experiment (15.89%). No significance different were found in protein and ash content among control group, S1, S2, S3 treatment for both week of proximate time. The deprived fish showed hyperphagia during the 2 weeks period or starvation and 4 weeks re-feeding. The difference in body crude composition during starvation and re-feeding indicate that there are metabolism changes during lipid and protein utilization. In conclusion, optimum compensatory growth was achieved and there are changes in body crude composition in juvenile tilapia for 2 weeks food deprivation and refeeding for 4 weeks since there is improvement in weight gain, SGR, PER and FER, lipid and protein content in body composition

This paper reports on a study of titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films. TiO2 thin films were prepared by sol-gel method using nano- TiO2 powder dissolved in Isopropanol solution. The nano- TiO2 powder was previously extracted from local mineral waste which is known as ilmenite. Using the aqueous solution containing 0.1g of nano-TiO2 powder, several acids which are acetic, hydrochloric (HCI) and nitric were used to study its effects. Each sample was mixed with Triton X-100. Using spin-coating technique the thin films were deposited with 1000 r.p.m for 30s and 3000 r.p.m for 60s. The thickness of each sample was characterized using KL surface profile. The surface topologies and roughness were characterized by an XE-100 Park system atomic force microscope (AFM).The optical property was characterized with a Lambda-750 Perkin Elmer ultra violet-visible spectrometer (UVVis). It was found that by using nitric acid more uniform and transparent TiO2 thin film has been produced

    Design of Butterworth Band-Pass Filter

    Get PDF
This paper presents a high order filter for the Butterworth filters up to 8th and 9th order. The higher order filters are formed by using the combination of second and third order filters. While designing the Band-Pass Butterworth filter, four parameters need to be specified such as Ap (dB attenuation in the pass band), As (dB attenuation in the stop band), fp (frequency at which Ap occurs) and fs (frequency at which As occurs). The design procedure involves two steps, the first step is to find the required order of the filter and the second step is to find the scale factor that must be applied to the normalized parameter values. The Band-Pass Butterworth filler is a combination between low pass and high pass For the low pass Butterworth filter, the value of a resistor that has been used are 100KΩ and the value of the capacitor is found by scaled inversely with the frequency and the selected resistor value. While for the high pass Butterworth filter, the value of a capacitor that has been used is 0.05µF and the resistor value is found by scaled inversely with the frequency and the selected resistor value. The Butterworth Band-Pass filler required to bypass certain band of interest while suppressing the frequency below and above than pass band. Two configurations design circuit was tested by using LTspice software
