This study is to investigate the effectiveness of lecturers of Politeknik Melaka based on teaching and learning (PDP) score. The scope of this research is to view the impact of efficacy lecturers of Politeknik Melaka are willing to teach and whether the lecturers who have taught a high readiness efficacy have high scores in monitoring teaching and learning. The instrument used to look at the level of efficacy is through questionnaires to the 44 lecturers and for scores obtained from the monitoring teaching and learning report for the session Polytechnic Melaka June 2013. The study is divided into three stages, namely the analysis of the efficacy analysis, teaching and learning June session 2013 and analysis of efficacy by monitoring PDP scores each respondent. Min to score efficacy and achievement scores monitoring PDP session in June 2013 did not demonstrate findings consistent or positive where findings scores efficacy is at the level of the score 4:23 shows the interpretation that is ready and the likelihood that high but the findings mean the monitoring is to score 82% ie at a satisfactory level. This finding is reinforced by the findings of the analysis of efficacy scores and achievement scores for individual monitoring PDP where researchers can see not necessarily respondents with high efficacy score or so willing scored monitoring very satisfactory

Antimicrobial Effect of Centella Asiatica Extract on Fish Surimi

Centella asiatica or commonly known as Centella is a herb that is often used by everyone in the world for health reasons. Centella usually used to cure skin diseases such as leprosy, scabies, ulcers and wounds. The antimicrobial properties of Centella or locally known as “Pegaga” has been studied in many previous research especially in medicinal benefits. There were some scientific studies showed that Centella can also functioning as an antimicrobial in food. Therefore, this study was to determine antimicrobial effects of Centella extract on food, specifically on fish surimi. The rational of using fish surimi was it is a perishable food that requires food preservative to prolong it shelflife. Centella has been extracted by using methanol as a solvent. There were two methods of adding extract to fish surimi. Centella extract was added in sample or has been dropped onto media that has been spreader with sample. Total Plate Count Method was used to determine microbial numbers in fish surimi that have been added with C. asiatica extract meanwhile Disc Diffusion Method was used to determine antimirobial effects of Centella extract by measuring the inhibitory zone on media used. Different concentrations of Centella extract were used. 10%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 90% of extract have been tested on fish surimi. Based on results obtained, it showed that the total microbial numbers in fish surimi was reducing when the concentration of extract is increased. Meanwhile the inhibition zone was increasing when the concentration of extract is increased. It proved that Centella extract can inhibit microbial growth on fish surimi. It means that Centella has an antimicrobial effect on fish surimi

Psychological Characteristics and Entrepreneurial Intention: A Theory of Planned Behavior Approach

    Get PDF
The study is related to the intention to be entrepreneurs among Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS) students and can be explained by Ajzen’s (1991) Theory of Planned Behavior. For this reason, this study firstly indicated the influence of psychological characteristics on entrepreneurial intention. Another part of this study is to point out the effect of psychological characteristics on attitudinal factors as well as the effect of attitudinal factors on entrepreneurial intention. The data were surveyed and gathered from final year diploma students from two fields of study (engineering and commerce) offered by POLISAS. A total of 100 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents but only 88 questionnaires were used in the statistical analyses. The results indicated that the hypothesized linkage between psychological characteristics and entrepreneurial intention was fully supported. The study also found that the hypothesized linkage between psychological characteristics and attitudinal factors were partially supported. Implications and limitations of the findings are specified for future study

Students’ Perception on Industrial Training Program

    Get PDF
Industrial training program provides students with opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at polytechnic to the working world. The program is hoped to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to help them secure jobs after graduation. This study aims at investigating the importance of industrial training to students’ skills, knowledge, career adaptation and belief. A total of 426 students from all courses under the Commerce Department in Politeknik Ungku Omar, Ipoh, have participated in the survey. The data was analysed using descriptive analysis. The result shows that there was a high level of students’ knowledge (mean = 3.358), skills (mean = 3.399), career adaptation (mean = 3.351) and belief (mean = 3.338). These findings suggest that industrial training is important and should be undertaken by students from all departments in Politeknik Ungku Omar

Preliminary Effects of Pruning on Oil Yield Production of Six Jatropha Curcas L. Accessions

A preliminary evaluation of pruning treatment effects on oil yield production of six Jatropha curcas L. accessions was conducted. The objectives of this research were, to study the effects of pruning on number of seeds, to identify the effects of pruning on oil yield production and to determine the best accessions among six Jatropha curcas L. accessions for breeding program. Pruning treatment was carried out on one year old plants of six Jatropha curcas L. accessions collected from various locations in Peninsular Malaysia. For this experiment, a split-plot design with three replications was used, where the main plot was pruning and non-pruning treatment and the sub-plot was accessions. Findings from this study revealed no effects of pruning as compared to non-pruning tree in all the growth and yield character. Observation was made for seven months after pruning. The ANOVA results showed that variation among accessions was not consistent in individual recording month for number for growth and yields and yield component character. Accession 1, (V1) and accession 5 (V5) is the best performer after pruning on numbers of seeds, oil to seed ratio and oil yield. Thus, it was potential accession for the selection in future breeding program

Work-based Learning – Revisiting Its Nature and Requirements

    Get PDF
Recently, the Department of Polytechnic Education (DPE) stipulated that all homegrown degree programmes and seventy –five percent of the diploma programmes should be using Work-based Learning (WBL) approach. Consequently, the need to understand WBL is paramount given that WBL approach is still in its infancy in Politeknik Malaysia system. Therefore, there is an urgency to share knowledge in WBL based on a particular field to close the gap in knowledge. The objectives of this paper are to understand the definitions of WBL; to understand the source of directives for WBL implementation; and to propose frameworks that support WBL implementation. This paper is written based on direct participation & observation of the authors who are directly involved in WBL in their professional capacity. Based on their experience, the authors find that WBL is highly doable in the presence of strong organizational framework and industrial support. It is a process in its infancy which needs continuous improvement to strengthen the programme. Consent and endorsement or a work process to enable collaboration and hierarchical power to conduct training will be useful. Fourthly, policy and guidelines should precede implementation to facilitate the process
