    Get PDF
The use of electricity is one of the main sources in a path to create a conducive environment for learning and residential among students. A comprehensive management of electricity consumption is needed in order to address the issue of increasing energy consumption and a rising rate for the electricity bill in the commercial sector. Following the issues presented, this study was conducted to identify the behaviour of KKKL residents towards the use of electricity by using the Extended Theory of Planned Behaviour (ETPB) as a framework. Theneeded data were then collected through set of questionnaires that had been developed based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). A total of 134 KKKL residents has been selected as respondents for this study. The researcher had opted to use random sampling method in the process of selecting respondents for this study and the data collected were then analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 23.0. From the descriptive analysis, it is found that the behaviour of the KKKL population as a whole was at a high level with a total mean of 4.51. It also shows that there is a relationship between behaviour and energy saving intention with the recorded value of r=0.784 and p<0.05. In the meantime, based on the regression analysis, it is found that subjective norms do not show any effect on energy saving intention while Attitude towards Energy Saving, Perceived Behaviour Control, Personal Moral Norm and Descriptive Norm showed an effect on energy saving intention with each beta value recorded were β = .156, p < .05; β = .232, p < .05; β = .168, p < .05 and β = .476, p < .05. This finding further illustrates that the increase in electricity bills is not due to the behavioural factors of the KKKL population based on the mean score obtained for the overall behaviour construct. This may be due to other factors that are not being addressed in this study such as the use of the building materials which had a potential to contribute in the increase of electricity consumption, such as the use of materials that required high heat storage and the use of obsolete and impractical electrical appliances

Automatic Pump Down Air Conditioning System for Refrigerant R22 Split Unit

    Get PDF
Pump down is a process of pumping and storing refrigerant from the air conditioning system into an outdoor unit using a solenoid valve in the liquid line. The conventional method would be to pump down the refrigerant manually before conducting maintenance to the air conditioning system. Industrial refrigeration units use massive amounts of refrigerants. Without a pump down process, the liquid refrigerant would be sucked out from the evaporator and enter the compressor. Compressors do not pump liquid therefore the compressor would be destroyed if a large amount of liquid is found in the compressorhe result shows that 99.98% refrigerant were able to recovered. Hence, this project focused on developing an automatic pump down system. For the purpose of this study, an air conditioning system with 1 horse power (hp) capacity was mounted with two sets of pressure switch and solenoid valve. Once the desired temperature is reached, the thermostat will open and the valve will close. The compressor will then continue to run and evacuate any refrigerant from the solenoid valve’s outlet, including the compressor. The system will continue to pump the remaining refrigerant into the outdoor unit. The whole system will completely shut off after all refrigerants were safely kept inside the outdoor unit. Based on the findings, the process of reducing and controlling refrigerants leakage from the air conditioning system is more efficient and effective when applying pressure of 110 psi

    Get PDF
The aerospace industry drills millions of holes annually on stacked airframe structures. Unfortunately, as the drill breaks through cutting fluid is sprayed on the machining environment and workshop. The scientific challenge is to develop a viable and cost effective drilling process that can operate without cutting fluids. Development of dry drilling processes will enable the aerospace industry to substantial improve the machining environment and addressing the health and safety issues for their workers. The main purposes of this study is to determine the effectiveness of coating capability, effect of machining parameters and influence of swapping the position of stacked materials on the cutting performance and quality of holes drilled. Successful baseline experiments employing various cutting parameters and tool coating were conducted and showed promising results. Trials indicated CVD diamond-coated drills produce remarkable higher thrust compared to other coatings. However, regardless of coating used, most severe deviations of diameters were captured at lower feed and speed. In term of surface roughness, results have pointed out that Standard MoST seem to be the promising coatings in reducing the hole surface roughness

    Get PDF
Titanium is an expensive material with superior qualities and preferred by manufacturing industries. The industries must consider machining operations and parameters selection to minimise the material waste and machining failure. Material waste related directly to machining operation used. Thus, EDM Die Sinking is the selected machining operation because of its extensive in reducing material waste. Moreover, machining failure which effected to machined workpiece qualities are associated with machining parameters. Furthermore, determining the machining parameter practically made by experienced machinist and is made by trial and error manner. Therefore, this paper aims to put forward Titanium workpiece qualities in relation to EDM Die Sinking machining parameters relation with Fuzzy Logic model. For comparison, ANN will also model the relation. The models development begins with data selection, modification, and composition. Then the selected models are designed with their features. Fuzzy Logic model features include selection of membership functions, feature range points for input-output, and fuzzy logic rules. In addition, for Neural Network model, Feed Forward Backpropagation Network is applied. Afterward, the network architecture and functions used is decided. Finally, the estimation performance of the models with various model designs are compared. Fuzzy Logic and ANN models best performance in estimating Surface Roughness is similar i.e. 83.3% detection rate. Fuzzy Logic with 97.2% detection rate is the best dimensional accuracy estimation performance. And the best dimensional accuracy estimation performance for ANN is 91.7%. The best performance model is substantial to the related industries because the model can reduce material waste and machining failure. Besides, the model simplified the parameters estimation and easy to new machinist
