Properties of Pervious Concrete with Recycled Oyster Shells as Partial Aggregates Component
This study aims to investigate the performance of oyster shells as partial aggregates replacement in a pervious concrete mixture. The experiment was carried out by replacing coarse gravel aggregates in standard concrete formulations with 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% manually-crushed pre-treated oyster shells. For periods of 7, 14, 28, and 52 days, primary concrete properties such as pH, carbonation depth, sorptivity, compressive strength, and permeability were investigated. According to the investigations, all modified specimens outperformed control specimens, and the performance of pervious concrete was directly related to the number of replacements. Calcium carbonate was added to the mixture, which improved physical performance. However, after 28 days, the quickly achieved initial compression strengths were reduced. This research has revealed that oyster shells have much potential as an alternative material in the construction business. Furthermore, the development of pervious concrete could be an alternate environmental option for solid waste management and urban stormwater management
Motivasi Utama Program Homestay di Selangor Menerusi Pendekatan Kualitatif
Homestay program is a form of community-based tourism that is becoming increasingly popular in most developing countries, including Malaysia. This program has the potential to be a catalyst for the socio-economic development of communities in rural areas. However, in enjoying the benefits of this program, participants often face challenges in running a homestay program. The objective of this study is to analyze the motivation of homestay participants as well as their involvement to make the homestay program a success in Selangor. A qualitative approach through the need for a case study has been applied in this study, where the method of partial interview with fifteen (15) representatives of homestay program participants throughout the state of Selangor has been implemented. Thematic analysis was used to process the data using Atlas ti software 8. The results showed that there are seven (7) main motivations of study participants in undergoing homestay program namely (1) willingness to change (2) active involvement of local community (3) attractions tourism around (4) homestay leadership committee support (5) government assistance (6) family heritage legacy and (7) social media. In conclusion, such a study is important to ensure the sustainability of the homestay program as well as to strengthen the rural community. Therefore, a homestay development plan needs to be created to increase community-based tourism in Selangor which focuses on the Community Based Tourism
Malaysian Polytechnics Students Demographic Profile and Educational Option
This study presents findings on Malaysian polytechnic students\u27 educational options in terms of enrolling programme and student demographic profiles for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). A self-report questionnaire was used to examine student demographic profiles such as socioeconomic level (SES), educational aspirations, and secondary school performance. This study enlisted the participation of 643 students from Malaysian polytechnics. The data was analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The data was analysed using descriptive and chi-square tests. The findings reveal that there is no relationship between Malaysian polytechnic students’ educational option on TVET and socioeconomic level, educational option on TVET and educational aspirations. Meanwhile, there is a relationship between Malaysian polytechnic students educational option in TVET and secondary school performance. The data also revealed that regardless of the programme in which Malaysian polytechnic students enrolled, majority of them came from low-income families, performed moderately well in secondary school, and have high educational aspirations to further their studies after finishing study at Malaysian polytechnics. As a consequence of the findings, students\u27 socioeconomic status had no impact on their TVET educational option as in the particular programme wherein they enlisted
Effect of Drying Temperature on Physiochemical Properties on Orange Sweat Potato Flour
Orange sweet potato flour is an innovative product that produces to commercialize the use of sweet potato in producing a food product. It can be used for baked goods, such as bread, cookies, muffins, and doughnuts, and as a thickener for sauces and gravies. It is also used as a flour option especially for those who are allergic to gluten. The objective of this study was to produce flour from orange sweet potato at different drying temperatures by using the circulation oven drying technique. The variables for this study were the drying temperatures of flour at 50°C, 55°C and 60°C for 8 hours. The flour is also determined by its moisture, ash, and beta carotene content. The best drying temperature of sweet potato flour is at 50°C with 3.47% of moisture content, and the highest ash content with 3.32%. In addition, the amount of beta carotene analysis also showed that, at 50°C, the amount of beta carotene was the highest with a reading of 0.042 mg/g compared to 55°C and 600C, which had only 0.035 mg/g and 0.027 mg/g. Hence, it can be recommended that the drying temperature of sweet potato flour was found to be indirectly proportional to the amount of moisture, ash and beta carotene content. Sensory evaluation shows, flour drying at 500C are more preferred by panellist, it imitates a market product compared to others in term of texture, elasticity, stickiness, and overall acceptance. The use of a low temperature, drying at 500C was chosen because the high nutrient content can still be maintained after the drying process takes place. In addition, these sweet potatoes can be used as an alternative source of flour with health benefits
Awareness of Personal Protective Equipment Compliance in Shipyard Industry
This research is conducted to assist management to improve of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance among shipyard workers by emphasizing on contributing factors that influence PPE compliance among shipyard workers. The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors on awareness of PPE compliance among workers in shipyard industry in order to suggest the improvements on shipyard workers’ PPE compliance to prevent future occupational accidents. Quantitative online survey questionnaire was conducted among 61 workers in Pasir Gudang shipyard by simple random sampling. The instruments of questionnaire were adapted and adopted from existing questionnaire from previous literatures. A pilot test was conducted to measure the reliability of the questionnaire for all contributing factors by assessing Cronbach’s Alpha acceptable value and questionnaire’s validity is assessed by experts. Then, the questionnaire was disseminated via online survey to all respondents to assess their awareness on the PPE compliance in shipyard. The data collection from the respondents was collected and analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 26 and Microsoft Excel version 16. The results shown high awareness of PPE compliance among shipyards workers in Pasir Gudang influenced by attitudes and beliefs, demographic characteristics, supervision and training. Training, supervision and attitude and belief are the strong positive significant factors on awareness on PPE compliance. Management team can improve PPE compliance among workers by improving PPE attributes and establishing reward systems as well as implementation of continuous training dan supervision to influence safety attitude among shipyard workers.
 
Control Release of Encapsulation Citronella Oil by Complex Coacervation in Simulated Clean Floor Solution
Citronella oil is one of the essential oils that are recently known for its applicability in food and pharmaceutical industry. The main problems of essential oil are most of the component likely unstable and also very volatile. Microencapsulation is a method whereby one material or a mixture of the materials is coated by another material. This method is designed for protection, isolation and assist in storage. In the present study, the gelatine-chitosan microcapsules were prepared by complex coacervation. In this study, encapsulated citronella oil was placed in simulated floor cleaner stimulated (Tween 80 solution).On the optical microscope, the microcapsules were spherical in shape and of irregular size. This microcapsule is confirmed by analysis of IR spectra of release of citronella oil in simulated clean floor solution. Release rate of the microcapsules (closed container) at different stirring rate at the beginning is slowly at 12 hours and begin burst and rapidly after 48 hours. When stirring increase from 300 rpm to 700 rpm the release rate increase to 80% in two weeks. Release rates of the microcapsules (closed container) at different temperature begin with a high rate in the first five days had become slow and stable after ten days. The microcapsules release rates were at 42%, 62% and 68% at 25C, 50C, and 75C, respectively after 30 days. As conclusion the encapsulation of citronella oil by complex coacervation with gelatine and chitosan as core materials will improve the quality of the microcapsules. Release rates of the microcapsules at different conditions also indicate that the released rates were influenced by the stirring rate, temperature, and closed condition
Study on High Voltage Polymer Insulator with Nano-Titanium Filler
High voltage polymer insulator material such as SiR/EPDM composite has become one of the important studies recently. The researchers discovered that SiR/EPDM with the formulation of 50:50 weight percentages ratio had yielded the optimal dielectric and mechanical strength. However, the studies on these balanced compositions with the combination of nano-filler are still few and not yet fully explored. In this paper, SiR/EPDM composite was prepared with various loading concentration TiO2 nano-filler. The loading concentration of TiO2 nano-filler is 1 Vol%, 2 Vol%, 3 Vol%, 4 Vol% and 5 Vol%. The nano-composite samples were prepared via heated two rolls mill, MDR and hot press machines. The dielectric strength of nano-composites was analysed with 2-Parameter Weibull distribution. The experimental result revealed that the dielectric and tensile strength of SiR/EPDM containing 1 Vol% TiO2 nano-filler gives the highest dielectric and tensile strength of 33.01 kV/mm and 10.52 MPa as compared with other loading concentration. Therefore, the inclusion of 1 Vol% TiO2 nano-filler into SiR/EPDM was significantly has enhanced the dielectric and tensile strength of SiR/EPDM composite
Inter-rater Reliability Assessment for Motivating Factors in Blood Donation Using Cohen\u27s Kappa Analysis
The identification of motivating factors for blood donation, especially for new donors, is important for donor recurrence and retention to ensure that blood stock is always maintained. The aim of this study is to identify the inter-rater reliability of the motivating factors for blood donation, in order to verify that the identified factors are reliable and can be used for further research work. The result from the reliable item has the potential to be used to discover possible blood donation candidates, particularly among the younger generation. It involved two professionals called experts from health industry to give the rating. Therefore, this research performed the Cohen Kappa analysis in order to obtain the mutual agreement value among raters. The result shown the Kappa value is 0.7 which is considered to be in substantial agreement, with 12 out of 16 pairs had perfect agreement, 3 had perfect disagreement while there was one item, which does not have the same level of consensus among raters. The reliability evidence from previously identified factors was provided by these findings and significantly proven for creating appropriate incentive schemes for individual potential donors, which could help raise donation volumes without jeopardising blood supplies. The agreed-upon parameters can then be utilised to create any promotional scheme to ensure that blood is always available and never runs out
Characteristics of Raw Leachate of Jeram Sanitary Landfill
A study on the characteristics of the raw leachate of Jeram Sanitary Landfill (JSL) had been carried out for 5 months. Twenty samplings were carried out to define differences in leachate characteristics during operation on sunny and rainy days. The water quality of leachate produced by the two conditions can be compared with the quality of the design parameters of the treatment plant. During the sunny days sampling, average water quality characteristics for temperature, pH, COD, DO initial, BOD, TSS, and TDS are 28.730C, 7.35, 1168.96, 8.41, 657.55, 44.38, 938.17 mg/l, respectively. For rainy days sampling indicates that the quality of the water has improved these were in the pH, COD, DO initial, BOD, TSS, and TDS are 27.830C, 7.35, 598.54, 8.32, 318.15, 37.08, and 614.20 mg/l, respectively. In contrast, the raw leachate quality in the rainy season is much worse than in the dry season
A Preliminary Investigation of Interior Door Panel Assembly Improvement by Utilizing Fixture for B-segment Seven-seater Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV)
The major role of a fixture is to allow for exact repeatability and interchangeability of products within the same manufacturing process. This article looks at a different approach to making door trim and demonstrates the proper jigs for assembly. The fundamental objective is to optimize the passenger door assembly process through the decrease in cycle time. A fixture development process is made up of several stages: recording initial cycle time, talking with process stakeholders, and using a design tool to create the fixture virtually. The cycle time analysis method is used to calculate the effect on process performance, and then the data is compared to see how process performance differs. The fixture design has the additional benefit of reducing the total manufacturing time for the door inside trim assembly while also increasing the production line\u27s overall efficiency. While this inquiry is in the beginning stages, further cycle time analysis is required to ensure the validity of the findings
