Prevalence of Theileria annulata infection in cattle in different regions and farming systems in Algeria
Tropical theileriosis (TT) is a tick-borne disease of cattle caused by the apicomplexan parasite Theileria annulata. It poses a major threat to the health of imported exotic breeds and, to a lesser extent, native breeds which have a degree of resistance to the disease. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of T. annulata infection in cattle in the arid and semi-arid regions of Algeria using serological and molecular methods. Bovine blood was tested for the presence of T. annulata-specific antibodies using the immunofluorescent antibody test (IFAT) and for parasite DNA using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the gene encoding the major merozoite/piroplasm surface protein (Tams1). One hundred and sixteen individuals were screened and overall prevalences of 50.0 ± 4.6 % (IFAT) and 64.7 ± 4.4 % (PCR) were determined. There was moderate agreement between IFAT and PCR tests for the diagnosis of TT, with a sensitivity of 74.6 % and a specificity of 95.1 % for IFAT when compared against the PCR. Potential risk factors identified in this study were breed (OR = 2.25, 95% CI: 1.07–5.07), season of sampling (OR = 4.29, 95% CI: 1.97–10.9) and breeding system (OR = 8.60, 95% CI: 1.41–57.6). Sequence analysis of Tams1 PCR amplicons revealed 97.5–100% identity with one another and, overall, they were found to bear similarity to previously sequenced isolates from North Africa, Europe and Asia
Identification of polymorphisms in ELF5 and BMP2 genes and their impact on milk production in Brown Swiss cattle
Identifying new genetic markers to comprehend the population structure and genetic foundation of cattle breeds, enhancing production and elevating yield quality, is vital in the realm of modern breeding technology. The aim of this study was to determine the genetic variations in E74-Like Factor 5 (ELF5), also known as Epithelial Specific ETS Factor 5, and Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 (BMP2), also known as Bone Mineral Density Protein 2, and to correlate them with milk yield.es. The study’s purpose was to define new genetic markers in genes affecting milk yield performances in cattle. We used DNA samples from 90 animals of Brown Swiss cattle. Sequence analyses were applied to samples randomly selected after High-Resolution Melting analysis (HRMA), and polymorphic regions were identified. As a result of DNA sequences i) g.65825499 G/A transitions were determined for the intron 2 region of the ELF5 gene, ii) 5 different polymorphic regionsg.65826062 G/A, g.65825909 T/C, g.65826134 C/T, g.65826123 A/C and g. 65826138 T/C were identified for the exon 5 region of the ELF5 gene; iii) g.49551405 G/T, g.49551337 G/A, g.49551433 A/C, g.49551428 G/C and g.49551449 T/G polymorphic regions were identified for the exon 3 region of the Morphogenetic Protein 2 (BMP2) gene. There was no relationship between the polymorphic regions in the exon 5 and the intron 2 region of ELF5 and BMP2 gene polymorphic SNP polymorphisms and milk yield (P>0.05). Our results suggest that the newly identified polymorphisms in these genes can be used as molecular markers in modern breeding for defining various traits such as milk and growth yields.

Whole genome sequencing of vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium isolated from cat and dog
Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) have emerged as a significant increasingly become an public health concern over past few decades due to their association with serious multidrug-resistant (MDR) infections. This study utilized whole genome sequencing (WGS) to perform molecular characterization of three VRE isolates previously recovered from two cats and one dog. The genomic DNA of the isolates was extracted and sequencing was performed using the Illumina Novaseq platform. The genomes of Enterococcus faecium HMKU_VREfm_Dog12, Enterococcus faecium HMKU_VREfm_Cat95 and Enterococcus faecium HMKU_VREfm_Cat103 consisted of 2707111 bp, 2715129 bp, and 2664256 bp, respectively with GC content of 37.95%, 38.03% and 38.01%, respectively. Multidrug antimicrobial resistance genes conferring resistance to aminoglycosides (aac(6’)-aph(2’) and ant(6)-Ia), lincosamides (lnu(B) and lsa(E)), macrolides (erm(A), erm(B), msr(A), msr(C), and msr(B)), trimethoprim (dfrG) and tetracyclines (tet(L) and tet(M)) were identified. The sequence type (ST) of each isolate was determined using the Enterococcus PubMLST database. The isolates were found to belong to different STs (ST2248 in VREfm_Dog12, ST43 in VREfm_Cat95, and ST284 in VREfm_Cat103). The isolates carried only efaAfm (adhesion-associated protein) as virulence gene. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to provide insights into genetic diversity of VREfm strains isolated from dogs and cats using whole genome sequencing analysis in Turkey. The findings underscore the importance of genomic surveillance in monitoring the dissemination of MDR VREfm in pet animals
Effects of hawthorn (Crataegus oxycantha) fruit extract on tibia bone properties in broiler chickens subjected to heat stress
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different doses of hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha) fruit extract (HFE) supplementation to experimentally heat stressed broiler drinking water on tibia morphology, biomechanics and mineral levels. 300 one-day-old male broiler were randomly allocated to 6 experimental groups according to 2x3 factorial experimental design with two different ambient temperatures (24 and 35oC) and three different HFE additions (0, 0.2 and 0.4 mL/L). Each experimental group contained five replicates of 10 chicks each. Heat stress (HS) decreased tibia dry weight, length, wet weight, volume, seedor index, cortex thickness, shear force and shear stress and increased dry matter percentage (P<0.05). HS also caused a decrease in tibia Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Zn and K (P<0.05) levels. The addition of HFE to the water of broilers housed under HS didn’t affect the morphological and biomechanical properties of tibia. Ca level of tibia increased with 0.2 mL/L HFE addition and Mg and Zn levels increased with both 0.2 and 0.4 ml/L HFE additions compared to the control (P<0.05), while Fe and Mn levels of tibia decreased with 0.2 mL/L HFE addition and K level decreased with both levels of HFE addition compared to the control (P<0.05). On the other hand, tibia Cu level decreased with 0.2 mL/L HFE addition and increased with 0.4 mL/L HFE addition. It was concluded that the addition of 0.2 mL/L HFE to the water of broilers exposed to high ambient temperature would be sufficient and recommendable to improve bone quality characteristics.
When Architecture Meets Education for Sustainability: Teachers’ Perceptions on Promoting Inclusion in Primary School
Οι Στόχοι Βιώσιμης Ανάπτυξης της Ατζέντας 2030 επικεντρώνονται, μεταξύ άλλων, στην προώθηση της εκπαίδευσης για όλους με έμφαση στην ισότητα, την προσβασιμότητα και τη δημιουργία βιώσιμων και συμπεριληπτικών σχολικών περιβαλλόντων. Ο σχεδιασμός των σχολικών χώρων διαδραματίζει καθοριστικό ρόλο στην ενσωμάτωση των αρχών της αειφορίας, δημιουργώντας ένα περιβάλλον που ενισχύει τη μάθηση και τη συμμετοχή όλων των μαθητών, συμπεριλαμβανομένων αυτών με αναπηρία ή/και ειδικές εκπαιδευτικές ανάγκες. Η παρούσα έρευνα αποσκοπεί να διερευνήσει τις αρχές και παραμέτρους του αρχιτεκτονικού σχεδιασμού του σχολικού χώρου που επηρεάζουν την εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία και τις ανάγκες της σύγχρονης εκπαιδευτικής πράξης, σύμφωνα με τις αντιλήψεις εν ενεργεία εκπαιδευτικών της Πρωτοβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης. Για τον σκοπό αυτόν αξιοποιήθηκε δείγμα 139 εκπαιδευτικών και χρησιμοποιήθηκε μικτό εργαλείο συλλογής ποσοτικών και ποιοτικών δεδομένων. Τα ευρήματα της έρευνας αποκάλυψαν κάποιους κρίσιμους παράγοντες που αφορούν στον σχεδιασμό μιας σχολικής μονάδας και συμβάλλουν στην ένταξη της ετερότητας· αυτοί αναφέρονται στον καθολικό σχεδιασμό και την προσβασιμότητα, τη σχολική αίθουσα και αυλή, τον συμμετοχικό σχεδιασμό, την ευελιξία του χώρου και τη χρήση της παιδικής κλίμακας. Ως εκ τούτου, αναμένεται η ικανοποίηση αυτών των παραγόντων να αποτελέσει έναν νέο οδικό χάρτη, προκειμένου και τα σχολικά κτίρια να μπορούν να ανταποκριθούν στις προκλήσεις μιας συνεχώς εξελισσόμενης κοινωνίας και στις επίμονες περιβαλλοντικές απειλές που μας πλήττουν υπό το πρίσμα της Εκπαίδευσης για την Αειφορία.The Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda focus, among other things, on promoting education for all while emphasizing equity, accessibility, and the creation of sustainable and inclusive school environments. The design of school spaces plays a crucial role in integrating sustainability principles and fostering an environment that enhances learning and participation for all students, including those with disabilities and/or special education needs. This research investigates the design factors that influence the educational process and modern educational practices related to the school environment as perceived by in-service Primary Education teachers. For this purpose, a sample of 139 teachers was selected, and a mixed-method approach was employed to gather both quantitative and qualitative data. The findings revealed several critical factors related to the design of schools that contribute to diversity inclusion; these factors include universal design and accessibility, classroom and schoolyard configurations, participatory design, spatial flexibility, and the use of child-scale elements. Therefore, it is anticipated that addressing these factors will establish a new roadmap for school environments to meet the challenges of a constantly evolving society and the persistent environmental threats we face in light of Education for Sustainability

Integral and defining for the time of poststructuralism, Derrida’s early thought not only expresses concerns about history and about the history of forms in ways that converge with similar critical interrogations in the US. These synchronicities also invite us to reflect on the demarcations of Derrida’s own thought: as it transpires, deconstructive impulses that were incommensurable or unreciprocated come, in retrospect, to attest to engendering potentialities that, perhaps, sometimes emerge despite or against the grain of Derrida's own thought
Μελέτη δυνάμεων και προσανατολισμού σώματος του αθλητή κατά την φάση εκκίνησης και επιτάχυνσης στο αγώνισμα των 100m
Το αγώνισμα του δρόμου 100 μέτρων θεωρείται κορυφαίο αγώνισμα στίβου. Συνεπώς, είναι φυσικό να πραγματοποιείται εκτεταμένη προσπάθεια εύρεσης τρόπων βελτίωσης επιδόσεων. Οι κρισιμότερες φάσεις για υψηλές επιδόσεις στα 100 μέτρα σπριντ είναι η εκκίνηση και η επιτάχυνση, στις οποίες εστιάζει η μελέτη, αναλύοντας τις δυνάμεις κατά την φάση της έναρξης, τον μηχανισμό επιτάχυνσης, τη σωστή τοποθέτηση του σώματος κ.α.. Στο πρώτο μέρος της εργασίας, την φάση εκκίνησης, αναφέρεται η δύναμη GRF (Ground Reaction Force) και η χρήση του βατήρα που επηρεάζουν σημαντικά τον αθλητή. Ακόμα, αναλύεται η επιρροή της στάσης σώματος στην εκκίνηση και τους τρόπους επίτευξης βέλτιστων επιδόσεων με κατάλληλη γωνίας εκκίνησης. Στο δεύτερο μέρος, την φάση επιτάχυνσης, εξετάζεται η εφαρμογή ισχύος από τον αθλητή και ο ρυθμός παραγωγής δύναμης από τον ίδιο. Από τα δύο μέρη προκύπτουν τα τελικά συμπεράσματα για τις βέλτιστες μεθόδους στον δρόμο των 100 μέτρων. Η έρευνα αυτή αποβλέπει στην ανάδειξη των κατάλληλων γνώσεων, ώστε περισσότεροι αθλητές να επιτύχουν καλύτερες επιδόσεις

Η παρούσα εργασία ασχολείται με τον τρόπο κρυπτογράφησης των δεδομένων που καταγράφονται σε ένα προσωπικό ημερολόγιο, καθώς και αυτών που ανταλλάσσονται σε συνομιλίες μεταξύ φίλων. Η ασφάλεια και η ιδιωτικότητα αποτελούν ένα από τα κύρια κίνητρα για την επιλογή αυτού του θέματος. Η προστασία προσωπικών δεδομένων, είτε πρόκειται για καθημερινές σκέψεις σε ένα ημερολόγιο είτε για μηνύματα που ανταλλάσσονται μεταξύ δύο ατόμων, είναι απαραίτητη για τη διασφάλιση της εμπιστευτικότητας. Το αρχικό ερέθισμα για τη συγγραφή της εργασίας ήταν η ανάγκη διερεύνησης τεχνικών και εργαλείων που εξασφαλίζουν την ακεραιότητα και την εμπιστευτικότητα αυτών των πληροφοριών.
