Art and Science Reimagined: Bridging the Epistemological Gap
No full textWas Da Vinci a great artist, or a great scientist and engineer? Why did he combine two domains, art and science, that today feel separate and completely unrelated? Was it due to a lack of scientific advancement that allowed him the space to explore science alongside the arts, or was it an internal drive that made him believe the two were inseparable? This article envisions the future of science by considering elements such as the prevalence of technology, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the evolving role of humans in the years to come. It is argued that the future of science depends on its integration with the arts, a synergy that fosters innovation and creativity while enabling individuals to achieve a more holistic intellectual development
DWELLING IN-BETWEEN US AND ALTERED REALITIES: TIME STANDS STILL
No full textFrom Aristotle to Bazin, the concept of art as mirror to reflect reality and the ontological level that establishes an existential relationship between image and reality respectively, depicting space, time and causality, is still today subject of constantly evolving. At the turn of the twenty-first century, understood as pictorial turn or Age of simulation (W. J. T. Mitchell, 1992), or even Age of disposable people (Rey Chow, 2010), the contribution of moving images to collective and individual memory relies, precisely, on questioning its boundaries when relating to visual literacy (James Elkins, 2008). The landscape of memory coming to fruition, dwelling in-between staged and altered realities, creates, then, the illusion of transparency as a catalyst to provoke re-actions.
By evoking and questioning mediation as “creator’s essence” towards the vision of the “world as a picture”, “Entre Nós” (Between Us, 2025) emerged from artistic disquite. Namely, the need to seek challenges, in particular the continuous looking forward to discover an idea as we tried to merge the expectations of everyone.
Last but not least, the urgency to materialize it within a limited time-frame. The opportunity of developing this project arose at a moment of closure, when seizing every opportunity became essential. Above all, it came about the eagerness to start building a meaningful path for us as artists
Social mobility in Greece: Perceptions and preferences
No full textThe purpose of this article is to present the views and perceptions of Greek individuals regarding social mobility based on a questionnaire survey conducted after the end of the financial crisis. Optimistically, most Greeks acknowledge the existence of social mobility in the country, reflecting positive changes in equality of opportunities. Personal experiences and recent income changes influenced participants' views. The main barrier to social mobility based on the citizens’ answers includes the transition from education to the labour market. On the other hand, cognitive and noncognitive skills and professional experience were deemed important for upward mobility.The participants also underscored the significance of different aspects of mobility
Molecular docking evaluation of the insecticidal impacts of some essential oils’ constituents
No full textFor a sustainable agriculture, the use of biopesticides is among the main components of Integrated Pest Management. When compared to chemical pesticides, biopesticides derived from plants offers numerous benefits. Additionally, the use of in silico approach could assist researchers in reducing the duration and expense of in vitro experiments. In this context, the current study's objective is to predict the binding potential of Salvia microphylla (Lamiaceae) essential oils, in addition to two active ingredients of chemical pesticides, against two target proteins in insect, using molecular docking technique. Via MOE software, the best-scored position for every molecule was the only one achieved after the free binding energy (kcal/mol) was calculated. According to the results, the active molecules of conventional insecticides recorded the best results of binding interaction with the two examined target proteins (acetylcholinesterase and ecdysone receptor), followed by the molecule γ-eudesmol. The overall results indicated that among the tested compounds, the sesquiterpene γ-eudesmol was found to have the highest docking score with acetylcholinesterase and ecdysone receptors through the in silico study. Therefore, testing this ingredient on insects in both lab and field settings is strongly advised
From critical reflection to transformative praxis: Intersecting Freire, Mezirow & Brookfield
No full textThis paper adapts a comparative critical theoretical analysis and synthesis of the theories of Paulo Freire, Jack Mezirow, and Stephen Brookfield, three seminal scholars whose work has shaped the concept of critical reflection in adult education. Although all three regard education as a site of human growth and democratic development, they articulate different pathways toward transformation. Freire advances a radically political pedagogy of critical consciousness (conscientização), situating reflection within collective struggle and action against oppression. Mezirow frames transformation as a primarily cognitive and individual process, through which adults reassess meaning perspectives via rational–critical discourse. Brookfield occupies an integrative position: drawing on critical theory, he emphasises ideology critique and the pervasiveness of power, arguing that critical reflection is inherently political and must expose hegemonic assumptions embedded in practice. By juxtaposing these perspectives, the paper shows that critical reflection is not a uniform construct, but a multifaceted practice shaped by distinct ontological, epistemological and ethical commitments. Synthesizing their insights points toward an integrative framework in which education as praxis unites meaning-making, ideological critique and collective action. In the face of growing inequality, authoritarian tendencies and the marketisation of adult learning, adult educators must cultivate spaces of dissent, reflection and solidarity where individuals and communities can imagine and enact more just worlds
Bibliometric Mapping of Second Chance Education (2015–2025)
No full textΗ εκπαίδευση ενηλίκων και ειδικότερα η εκπαίδευση δεύτερης ευκαιρίας αποτελούν κρίσιμους πυλώνες της διά βίου μάθησης, οι οποίοι συνδέονται με την κοινωνική ενδυνάμωση, την άρση εκπαιδευτικών ανισοτήτων και τη βελτίωση των επαγγελματικών προοπτικών. Παρά τη διαρκώς αυξανόμενη διεθνή ερευνητική δραστηριότητα στα πεδία αυτά, δεν υπάρχει συστηματική χαρτογράφηση της βιβλιογραφικής παραγωγής της τελευταίας δεκαετίας. Σκοπός της παρούσας μελέτης είναι η διερεύνηση των κυρίαρχων θεματικών τάσεων, των δομικών χαρακτηριστικών και της δυναμικής του ερευνητικού πεδίου της εκπαίδευσης ενηλίκων, της εκπαίδευσης δεύτερης ευκαιρίας και της διά βίου μάθησης για την περίοδο 2015–2025 μέσω βιβλιομετρικής ανάλυσης.
Το υλικό της μελέτης αποτελείται από 223 άρθρα που ανακτήθηκαν από τη βάση Scopus με συγκεκριμένα κριτήρια αναζήτησης. Η ανάλυση πραγματοποιήθηκε μέσω βιβλιομετρικών τεχνικών απόδοσης και χαρτογράφησης της επιστήμης, αξιοποιώντας το λογισμικό VOSviewer. Εφαρμόστηκαν αναλύσεις συνεμφάνισης συγγραφέων και λέξεων-κλειδιών, βιβλιογραφικής σύζευξης και συν-αναφορών, με στόχο την ανάδειξη της θεματικής δομής και των ερευνητικών συστάδων.
Τα αποτελέσματα δείχνουν σημαντική αύξηση της ερευνητικής παραγωγής την τελευταία δεκαετία και εντοπίζουν δύο κυρίαρχους θεματικούς άξονες: (α) τη μαθησιακή εμπειρία και την ψυχοκοινωνική ανάπτυξη των ενηλίκων εκπαιδευομένων και (β) τις κοινωνικές, θεσμικές και πολιτικές διαστάσεις της εκπαίδευσης, με έμφαση στη δεξιότητα, την απασχολησιμότητα και την κοινωνική ένταξη. Επιπλέον, η ανάλυση αναδεικνύει τις χώρες, τους οργανισμούς και τους συγγραφείς με τη μεγαλύτερη επιστημονική επιρροή. Η μελέτη συμβάλλει στην κατανόηση της εξέλιξης και της δομής του πεδίου, προσφέροντας ένα χρήσιμο πλαίσιο για μελλοντικές ερευνητικές και πολιτικές παρεμβάσεις.Η εκπαίδευση ενηλίκων και ειδικότερα η εκπαίδευση δεύτερης ευκαιρίας αποτελούν κρίσιμους πυλώνες της διά βίου μάθησης, οι οποίοι συνδέονται με την κοινωνική ενδυνάμωση, την άρση εκπαιδευτικών ανισοτήτων και τη βελτίωση των επαγγελματικών προοπτικών. Ο έλεγχος διαφθοράς και οι άμεσες ξένες επενδύσεις στις χώρες της ευρωζώνης
No full textΗ σύγχρονη κοινωνία χαρακτηρίζεται από την παγκοσμιοποίηση των οικονομικών σχέσεων η οποία επιτυγχάνεται μέσω των διεθνών εμπορικών συναλλαγών, την διεθνοποίηση της παραγωγής, της κινητικότητας του κεφαλαίου και την ανάπτυξη των πολυεθνικών επιχειρήσεων. Οι ΑΞΕ αποτελούν μια αναπτυξιακή γέφυρα στην διαδικασία της παγκοσμιοποίησης και διαδραματίζουν σημαντικό ρόλο στην οικονομική ανάπτυξη των χωρών. Ηπαρούσα μελέτη επικεντρώνεται στο κατά πόσο οι πολιτικές συνθήκες που επικρατούν σε χώρες της Ευρωζώνης επηρεάζουν το επενδυτικό της περιβάλλον, πιο συγκεκριμένα πως συνδέονται οι πολιτικοί και οικονομικοί παράγοντες με τις άμεσες ξένες επενδύσεις στις χώρες της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Εν συνεχείαακολουθείμελέτη περίπτωσης των χωρών Ελλάδας – Ιρλανδίας, καθώς η Ιρλανδία είναι η δεύτερη χώρα της Ε.Ε. που μόλις λίγους μήνες μετά την Ελλάδα, μπήκε σε μνημόνια και κατάφερε να επιστρέψει πολύ γρήγορα στην κανονικότητα εστιάζοντας στην προσέλκυση άμεσων ξένων επενδύσεων. Στόχος της παρούσας έρευνας είναι να αναλύσει τη συσχέτιση και τον σημαντικό βαθμό συσχέτισης των μεταβλητών μεταξύ τους, εφαρμόζοντας την στατιστική μέθοδο της παραγοντικής ανάλυσης με την χρήση του στατιστικού προγράμματος SPSS. Για την ανάλυση αυτή αντλήθηκανδεδομένα από την Παγκόσμια Τράπεζα για το χρονικό διάστημα 2011-2020(σε βάθος δεκαετίας) μεταξύ των 27 χωρών της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Εν κατακλείδι παρατίθενται αφενός τα συμπέρασματης ανάλυσης και αφετέρου οι προτάσεις για αλλαγή στο αναπτυξιακό πρότυπο της Ελλάδος για την συστηματική προσέλκυση άμεσωνξένων επενδύσεων με απώτερο σκοπότην ανάκαμψη της οικονομίας
