Creating a Magic Classroom with Technology: The Classcraft Experience

    No full text
Humans are a species that makes technology in the same way that a spider is a species that makes webs. This phrase by Jason Silva (philosopher, filmmaker, self-styled futurist and known for conducting NatGeo's Mind Games program) perfectly frames one of the characteristics that define us and differentiate us from other species. The fact is that today technology is so embedded in our daily lives that we increasingly take it for granted in many aspects of daily life, but in many others, its penetration has been considerably slower. In this case, we will talk specifically about education, the ludification of teaching and a web resource with the potential to completely transform the educational experience

The importance of reading in education is a subject that is becoming more and more topical. Above all, by knowing the shortcomings in the formation of students in general, but especially at the level of the baccalaureate. This problem became more noticeable in the results of the tests applied for university entrance. Well, this alert has generated an immediate reaction in search of solutions on the march of the educational fact. Finding, immediately, in reading a strategy to generate significant learning. It is therefore urgent to develop in students the competencies and abilities for the efficient use of reading. That academic and professional training is ultimately the indicator of the success of an education system. Thus, the supreme importance of reading in education is no longer under discussion. What should concern us teachers is the search for methodologies that permit the efficient use of reading in the teaching-learning process. From the beginning of formal education, the human being begins to learn and develop the reading competence, it depends on the direction that this has to turn it into a fundamental resource in the formative process of the student. This article, therefore, focuses on the use that can be given to reading both in the classroom and in family and social environments

Es un acto íntimo y creativo” (Coronas Cabrero, 2005).The reality of reading in our country is not encouraging, it is known that Ecuadorians read 0.5 books per year, (Diario El Telégrafo, 2012) that is why we seek to promote or encourage reading; initiatives, projects, ideas for the enjoyment of reading are developed. It seems that children have been made to believe that they do not like reading, that it is boring and that they do it out of obligation, of course, this is so, if the process of reading is simply done mechanically without any sense or objective. A society becomes a book lover from childhood and/or adolescence with the help of parents and teachers. The pleasure that reading offers in giving diverse meanings, entering into other worlds so close, so dissimilar, converts it into a process of apprehension and understanding of reality that provides an endless number of creative possibilities, of joy, learning, reflection; and, any other meaning or sensation that is so personal for the reader. "Reading involves gathering, concentrating, reflecting and interpreting. It is an intimate and creative act" (Coronas Cabrero, 2005)

Why you want to regulate physical appearance of people - generating "respectable aesthetics" and "aesthetics that don't deserve respect"- in the educational institutions? I work at a university that, despite carry a creed in his name, has been characterized for being a space where people from different beliefs and ideological positions have felt relatively comfortable. This is because, despite of divergences, is a university whose tradition opening to debate has allowed the growth of a critical and inclusive environment that, however, like everything else in life, you constantly see threatened by intransigent postures. One of the consequences of such positions is that the generate less space than needed for the discussion of important issues. Whether by institutional, governmental, or other affairs type, this fear of debate, of the opposition of ideas, it's something that nestles in the education system Ecuadorian superior. In this respect, there are many edges that would warrant discussion, but now I want to devote myself to one that I find especially worrying: the pedagogy of bodies

    La lectura: una reflexión

Reading or not reading, is it a question of perception or reality, and we should ask ourselves, the teachers of the 21st century, if the one or the other occurs when we believe that a student does not read because his or her attention is directed to technological media and virtual reading, and thus the concern appears: does an adolescent benefit from virtual reading, or would reading in the classic printed text be more productive? Of course, this question is relevant from certain contexts, because for the young adolescent, who is obsessed by the power of the media and the technological resources that have invaded his cosmology, the one who more than a young student seems to be an astronaut completely wired up in outer space with his headphones and speakers, may not have it. It is there where this art becomes a challenge for teachers, who desperately seek practical and modern methodological techniques, in order to update teachers in the mission of promoting the habit of reading inside and outside their classrooms, which often appear as utopian efforts to motivate the habit of reading as a new paradigm and teaching strategy in the learning process; with new reading techniques such as scoring and fixation.

Their mother tongue, usually Kichwa, is the predominant language, even though they hear and sometimes speak Spanish in school and other settings. However, when learning to read and write, they begin to show some transfers from Kichwa to Spanish. It is important to understand what they are and why they happen, so as to encourage more effective learning of Spanish through an appropriate attitude
